Kana: THERE! Augh, look at its teeth!
Ignatius: [surprised] Huh? Aw, what a cute little squirrel-
Kana: [worried] Don’t touch it! It’s too big!
Ignatius: [smile] Hey there, little guy. Aww, are you hungry?
Kana: [determined] Stay away from my Papa! Grraaargh!

Ignatius: [surprised] Kana! Hey, it’s okay!
Ignatius: [sweat, surprised] The squirrel’s gone, you can come out of dragon form now!
Kana: [frown] It’s probably just gone to summon help! More evil hairballs!
Ignatius: It’s just a squirrel…
Kana: It’s not JUST a squirrel! It’s a SQUIRREL!
Kana: [upset] I thought you’d understand!
Ignatius: I- I understand being scared of scary things, but-
Kana: [upset] You think I’m just being a scaredy-cat?
Ignatius: No! I just… why are you scared of squirrels?
Kana: [frown] More like why aren’t you?
Kana: I read in one of Uncle Leo’s books that squirrels are the number three disease-spreader in the whole world behind rats and mice!
Kana: Their teeth are sharp enough to cut through armour!
Kana: [upset, sweat] And their beady little eyes!
Kana: They’re a menace!
Ignatius: [sweat] I… I guess that’s one way to look at it.

Ignatius: [frown, sweat] Hey, Kana? Do you have a few minutes?
Kana: [smile] I’ve got all the time in the world for you, Papa! What’s up?
Ignatius: It’s about squirrels.
Kana: [frown] Oh.
Ignatius: [smile] I know what it’s like being scared of things.
Kana: [surprised] Really? You’ve been scared of stuff too?
Ignatius: [smile, sweat] Once or twice. My parents tried to help me get over my fears – maybe you and I can do the same?
Kana: [surprised] Really?
Ignatius: [smile] Well, you don’t want to be scared of squirrels all your life, do you?
Kana: [frown] It’s not JUST squirrels, though…
Ignatius: What else are you scared of? Bugs?
Kana: [smile] Nah, they’re okay. I like the cute ones!
Ignatius: The cute ones? Like ladybirds?
Kana: [frown] Ewww, no! Like fluffy spiders!
Kana: [smile] I saw a great one the other day in the stables! It was fluffy and had brown and white fur, and-
Ignatius: [sweat, scared, closed eyes] Stop! I, um… it’s too cute. The mental image is too cute.
Ignatius: (Thank the gods I’m not on stable duty for a while.)
Ignatius: [smile, sweat] Well… what else are you scared of?
Kana: [frown] Um, raccoons, skunks, rabbits, possums, badgers… oh, and beavers! They’re the WORST!
Ignatius: [surprised] But… they’re all so…
Kana: [sweat, worried] Vicious? Plague-infested? Creepy?
Ignatius: …cute.
Kana: [pout] They’re not cute! Bears are cute! Stagbeetles are cute!
Ignatius: [sweat, scared] S-stagbeetles?
Kana: [determined] B-but if you think they’re cute, I want to not be scared of them!
Kana: After all, what if-
Kana: [worried] -you w-wanted one as a… as a pet!
Ignatius: [smile] It’s brave of you to try and overcome your fear, Kana.
Ignatius: Don’t worry! We’ll work together and you won’t fear cute little bunnies ever again.
Kana: [pout] They’re not cute!
Ignatius: [sweat, smile] (Is this really what I sound like?)

Ignatius: [worried] Kana! Hey, it’s okay!
Kana: [upset] It’s not okay! I’m so stupid and scared that I can’t even get near a rabbit in a pen!
Kana: I’m sorry, Papa! You’ve spent so long trying to help me, but I’m still…
Kana: [crying] I’m still just a crybaby coward…
Ignatius: [upset] Kana! Don’t say things like that!
Kana: [surprised] Huh…?
Ignatius: [sad] There’s nothing wrong with crying or being scared, Kana.
Kana: B-but… no-one else is scared of the things I am!
Ignatius: That doesn’t matter. It’s okay to be scared no matter what it is you’re scared of!
Ignatius: [smile, sweat] I get scared a lot too. So does my father.
Kana: [surprised] Grandpa Benny? But- but you and him are so tough!
Ignatius: [smile] Even tough people are scared sometimes.
Ignatius: There’s some things that everyone finds scary, like war, or being sick…
Ignatius: But sometimes there’s things only a few people are scared of. Like rabbits, or spiders.
Ignatius: I might not understand why you’re scared of rabbits, just like you don’t understand why I’m scared of spiders.
Ignatius: But it doesn’t mean we’re bad for feeling that way.
Kana: [surprised] You… you really don’t mind that I’m scared of them?
Ignatius: Of course not!
Ignatius: It doesn’t matter what you’re afraid of, because I’ll always be here to protect you from it.
Kana: [smile] I’ll protect you too, Papa!
Kana: [smile, closed eyes] If there’s ever a bug or a big fluffy spider, just let me know and I’ll find them a new home!
Ignatius: [smile] I’m going to hold you to that, you know.
Kana: Likewise!
Kana: [smile, sweat] But, um, could we move away from the rabbit pen now? I think they’re getting ready to launch an assault…
