  1. An important thing to understand about giff is that there is no such thing as a giff without a military rank. Infant giff are enlisted as cadet-apprentices junior-grade as part of the process of receiving a name, and there is no such thing, legally speaking, as a discharge from giff military society. The chain of command is always clear, and giff find this comforting. Promotions are made based on military achievements and merit exclusively.
  2. Bonifacio lacks military achievements entirely and has achieved the rank of subaltern third-rate purely on the merits of his admission to Strixhaven, considered a show of his promise to develop into an excellent Supply Corps asset. At 6'5" Bonifacio is frankly diminutive for a giff, but his deft hands and keen mind for craftsmanship are at least as valuable as physical strength in the modern military.
  3. It is therefore a source of some shame to Bonifacio that he has found himself far more enamored of the aesthetic qualities of his creations than is entirely proper. While he specializes in the production of armaments, explosives, and other military materiel, he has been seeing how far he can improve aesthetic appeal without compromising utility, and even begun working on objects (fireworks in particular) with no practical use. He has not told any member of his brigade about this. Since giff rarely integrate into cosmopolitan society outside their mercenary activities, he has not yet encountered another at Strixhaven, and is beginning to warily suspect that embracing art and beauty might be all right for, at least, the duration of his studies. If anyone from home finds out, he hopes he can spin it as a source of improved brigade morale.

  28. Personality trait: I am meticulous in all endeavours and am surprised when other people are not.
  29. Ideal: Whatever you do, do well and correctly.
  30. Bond: The Grand Fleet. They are family, society, and employer all at once, and Bonifacio is terrified of bringing shame to them.
  31. Flaw: I feel the need to always find the "right" answer.
  32.
  33. Proficiencies (+2):
  34. Combat: Light armor, medium armor, shield, simple weapons, firearms
  35. Saves: Con, Int

  37. Tools: Thieves' tools, tinker's tools, alchemist's tools, smith's tools, woodcarver's tools, carpenter's tools (traded duplicate firearm proficiency from race/class)
  38. Languages: Common, Giff (dialect of Giant), Gnomic
  39.
  40. Feats:
  41. Strixhaven Initiate: Prismari (bonus): Gain two cantrips (Fire Bolt, Prestidigitation) and one spell from the bard or sorcerer list (Healing Word) which you may cast 1/day for free or use any spell slots to cast.
  42.
  43. Special Abilities:
  44. Astral Spark (racial): PB/day, when you hit with a simple or martial weapon, add force damage equal to your proficiency bonus. (+2)
  45. Firearms Mastery (racial): You ignore the loading property of firearms and attacking at long range with a firearm does not impose disadvantage.
  46. Hippo Build (racial): You have advantage on Strength-based ability checks and Strength saves. You also count as one size larger for determining carrying capacity and lift/drag/push weight.
  47. Magical Tinkering (class): Using artisan's tools or thieves' tools, you can add a variety of small effects to Tiny nonmagical objects. You can have a number of simultaneous tinkering effects equal to your Int bonus.
  48. Spellcasting (class): Artificers must use a material focus to cast spells. Normally this is one of their tools, but can also be infused items. Artificers prepare a number of spells equal to their Int modifier + half their level, rounded down.
  49. Ritual Casting (class): Artificers can cast prepared spells as rituals if they have the ritual tag.
  50.
  51. Spells prepared:
  52. Cantrip: Fire Bolt, Prestidigitation, Mending, Mage Hand
  53. Level 1 (2/2): Faerie Fire, Feather Fall, Tasha's Caustic Brew, Healing Word (+1/day)
  54.
  55. Inventory:
  56. Light Hammer: A versatile tool, sturdy enough to be used as a weapon without damaging it should the need arise.
  57. Hand Axe: A traditional field engineer's sidearm, useful for both improvised construction and emergency self-defense.
  58. Light Crossbow (20 bolts): There are many like it, but this one is Bonifacio's. A standard training weapon.
  59. Scale mail: Unremarkable, but kept clean and finely maintained.
  60. Thieves' Tools: Did you know that many of the same tools and skills are used for locksmithing and flintlock or crossbow mechanisms? Well, now you do, and that's why it's definitely not suspicious for a Supply Corps member to own these.
  61. Tinker's Tools: A broadly-useful set of tools for maintaining and repairing all kinds of things, but inadequate for real craftsmanship on their own.
  62. Carpenter's Tools (8G): A travel-ready set of tools for building, fortifying or dismantling wooden structures and furniture. Also useful for repairing ships, wagons, and so on. Includes a saw, hammer, nails, hatchet, square, ruler, adze, plane and chisel.
  63. Woodcarver's Tools (1G): A knife, a gouge, and a small saw, suitable for making smaller and more intricate objects from wood or decorating larger objects.
  64. Ink & Pen
  65. Explorer's Pack: Backpack, bedroll, mess kit, tinderbox, 10 torches, 10 days' rations, 50' rope and a waterskin. Standard issue for giff on expedition, even if the expedition is to college.
  66. Money pouch with 1G: A pouch of copper and silver coins. A subaltern third-rate does not draw very much reserve pay, but at least his tuition and board are being paid.
