- (In dialogue, the tactician character is called [Tact]. That's the code that makes the game say the player's name they put in at the beginning of the game.)

- The tactician:
- Ah, the wandering swordsman... Horton, was it?
- Horton:
- Why, yes. Oh, but I'm not a swordsman. I just happen to know how to fight with swords. Now, wanderer though, that is an apt description!
- The tactician:
- You joined us just so you could see the shrine of the dragon priests... You must really enjoy ancient sites if you're willing to fight to see them.
- Horton:
- Well, I consider myself to be a scholar, an archaeologist, even. I adore exploring ancient ruins, and examining artifacts. I merely picked up the blade to defend myself as I pursue my passion. It can be dangerous work sometimes after all... Most people where I am from learn magic for such things, but I unfortunately just do not have the gift for it.
- The tactician:
- Where are you from, Horton?
- Horton:
- Vanheim. From a little town you've probably never heard of. Come to think of it, you're from Vanheim too, aren't you?
- The tactician:
- Mhmm.
- Horton:
- Yes, I knew it! You did seem like an intellectual woman. It's always nice to have a fellow countryman as an ally. I can assume you and I have very similar tastes...
- The tactician:
- Before the war, I was doing what you were doing, more or less.
- Horton:
- Ah, I see. Well, we should make quite the team. I'm glad to have taken the time to talk to you. Oh, I'm sure we will be great friends and associates!
- The tactician:
- Yeah...

- I just realized you are Volund's daughter, aren't you?
- The tactician:
- That's right. ... You didn't know?
- Horton:
- I tend to forget about recent happenings. It isn't where my interest lies.
- The tactician:
- Ah...
- Horton:
- Speaking of Vanheim, I haven't heard a peep out of the duke. I would have thought he would be more engaged in this war. The dukes of Ernterre and Florencia certainly are chipping in.
- The tactician:
- The duke of Vanheim leaves any military affairs to my father. He likes to think of him as his ultimate weapon. As long as me or him still command the army, he won't lift a finger.
- Horton:
- I see. That man is a mystery for sure. He's been the duke for... why nearly one hundred years now. Why as far as humans are concerned, he could be a living fossil! He rules well enough, but I've never heard of anyone seeing him in person before. You must know him to some degree right? What's he like?
- The tactician:
- I... have met him a few times. But my father would know him better... He's a very distant person. It always seemed like his mind was focused on something else. He also doesn't look as old as one would expect him to. Oh, but he certainly shows his age, grey hair and wrinkles, but...
- Horton:
- Interesting... I've heard he is very interested in magic artifacts too.
- The tactician:
- Yes. He also has a council of magicians, and performs unusual rituals. Honestly, they would probably raise the church's eyebrows. But they're just so secretive about it, you'd never find out what they are up to...
- Horton:
- Oh my... Vanheim's nobility seems to have many secrets worth exploring...
- ///A
- Horton:
- What about you, [Tact]? Or your father? Have either of you been a part of these rituals?
- The tactician:
- No. I've never even seen them personally. My father observed them before though. Two of my magic teachers did take part but... They never divulged any information to me.
- Horton:
- Aye, what a shame. I was hoping to learn more...
- The tactician:
- Sorry that I don't know anything else.
- Horton:
- Oh, no. You've opened a whole new world for me to explore. It's something for me to look into once this war is over. Besides, I enjoy listening to you talk.
- The tactician:
- Y-You do?
- Horton:
- Why, I enjoy your company in general quite much. I'm going to miss having someone who understands me when the war ends.
- The tactician:
- Well, we don't HAVE to part ways...
- Horton:
- We don't?
- The tactician:
- ... We're both wanderers. And our homes are both in Vanheim...
- Horton:
- ... Oh! Oh, I see. You are correct, [Tact]! I completely forgot...
- The tactician:
- Teehee... That is much like you.
- Horton:
- Well, I wouldn't mind having a partner like you around. I welcome exploring this world's wonders in more peaceful days with you at my side.
- The tactician:
- Mmm, me too...
