Mario 2017

So for the past few months, I've been really feeling confused on what I wanted to do with my stream for 2017. I had been planning on learning Super Mario 64 120 star and really grinding that game out to get a good time. But I was worried that I would lose interest after awhile so I went back to the drawing board. SM64 practice is really fun, but I love interacting with chat and I felt like runs would be hard to balance while trying to doing well in the speedgame and interacting with my chat.

I felt like mario has a strong presence on my stream and with the Nintendo Switch coming out, I wanted to find a speedrun that would be both challenging to learn and do, incredibly fun to play, and help to continue the growth of my stream. This made me think about how much I enjoyed running Super Mario Galaxy 2 back in the day, and how much fun I've had casually racing SMG1 and Super Mario Sunshine. This led me to one BIG conclusion. I wanted to push myself super hard and shoot for something attainable yet challenging. So for 2017, my primary focus for streaming will be.......

I will be learning all four 100% categories of the main console 3D Mario Games.

Super Mario 64 120 Star
Super Mario Sunshine 120 Shines (Yes, this isn't a joke)
Super Mario Galaxy 120 Stars
Super Mario Galaxy 242 Stars

The goal: Have a sub 24 hour time at the end of the year in the December 602 race. I believe this will be a good test for me, and will give my channel direction for the rest of the year. 4 games allows me to have a lot of choices for the year, and not feel pressured to play one game only. Since the games are similar in style, I also feel like most of those who like watching my old content will thoroughly enjoy me playing these games.

My other content isn't going anywhere. I love playing Runescape, Risk 2, Mario Maker, SMRPG, as well as a huge backlist of casual games. While speedrunning will be my focus again on my channel, I don't plan on just streaming only speedruns again. I've found 5-6 hours of runs with another 2-4 hours of other games every night is a really great way to run a consistent stream. There will also be days where I wont want to speedrun at all, or breaks in the week. Especially the month of March, which will be fully taken up by MOMAM2.

With the Switch coming out, and the possibility of another 3D mario, I may even learn the new game as well. I feel really at peace with this decision, and am incredibly excited to start THE GRIND. I should be starting to fully commit to Mario Starting in late Jan, as there are a few casual games I want to wrap up before I start.

I've come to realize that the days of me grinding for WR are pretty much over. I love setting up goals for myself in speedrunning that dont have to be WR to feel proud of. I feel like cutting the 24 in the 602 is definitely one of those. It's something my chat can look forward to watching and seeing the improvement, and still be entertained by the dumbs when i sometimes fail.

Here are my goal times for each game. Looking forward to seeing how close I get by the end of the year.

Super Mario 64 120 Star: 2 Hours 20 Minutes
Super Mario Sunshine 120 Shines: 4 Hours
Super Mario Galaxy 120 Stars: 7 Hours
Super Mario Galaxy 242 Stars:  10 Hours 30 Minutes

This would put me at 23:50.

Just wanted to say thank you for a great 2016. I've seen my channel continue to grow this year, even though I felt like I spent the majority of the year figuring out my stream identity. A lot of you stuck around and I really do appreciate that. I'm excited for the future, and I'm excited to see where it goes. Without all of you, this dream would not be a reality. I appreciate the heck out of all of you, and I promise that 2017 will be even better!
