It is the home of delvers, and houses the largest delver school in the world.

Many illegal Delvers came here and settled, adding more and more buildings near each other in such little space, causing the area to protrude and gradually sink into the Abyss. The Wharf is the deepest point of the city, and the closest to the dangers of the abyss, but it houses freeborn souls, eager to take a shot at the abyss, despite the dangers of going in without proper training or gear.

102. ### The Origins of The Abyss
103. ##### The Abyss is a colossal pit discovered 1,900 years ago around the islands of the southern ocean of Beolusk. The vertical hole has a diameter of around 1,000 meters and is at least 20,000 meters deep, with its exact depth being currently unknown. It possesses a unique ecosystem, wherein lie the remnants of an ancient, yet advanced, civilization. Many have challenged the mysterious Abyss, pursuing countless hidden treasures and relics of immense value. Some are treasure hunters looking for Artifacts, while others are explorers determined to unveil the secrets the Abyss hides. To explore the Abyss, valiant cave raiders called Delvers were born, and the town of Orth was established at the edge of the Abyss.

104.
105. ### A Place To Be Feared
106. ##### The Abyss still contains many sections that have never been seen, and carries many dangers. Hazardous habitats that defy common sense and otherworldly creatures adapted to the unique environment are major obstacles to explorers.

107.
108. ### A Living Abyss
109. ##### All over the Abyss, there is a mysterious force field called the "Lifeblood of the Abyss". The force field acts as its main source of energy, carrying nutrients, producing light and sustaining life, in a similar fashion to the Sun. While it is present everywhere, it seems to be more prominent the closer one gets to the center. More savage and dangerous creatures are often found in areas where the force field is most prevalent, and the branches of vegetation always point towards the center of the hole, their main source of energy for undergoing photosynthesis. Delvers use this fact to guide themselves when they

The field is also constantly moving, following the consciousness of living beings. There are a few specific spots in the Abyss, usually far away from the center and in secluded areas, where the force field doesn't exist or is extremely weak.

116.
117. ### The Distortion of Time
118. ##### The great pit also appears to have some form of time distortion. The deeper one delves, the more one's sense of time breaks, with the effect becoming extreme from the 5th layer onwards. As an experiment, some Delvers once descended for what they thought was a couple of weeks, but by the time they returned to the surface, several months had passed.

138.
139. ### The Curse of The Abyss
140. ##### Though the Abyss is riddled with countless dangers and hazards, one of the greatest challenges facing Delvers is, in fact, the ascent from it. This is due to a phenomenon called the Curse of the Abyss. The term refers to a series of symptoms that manifest upon ascending while inside the Abyss, with its more scientific name being the "Strains of Ascension". The effects of the Curse manifest after ascending around 10 meters within the Abyss, and there's no way to avoid it through conventional means. The Curse affects all living things; however, the creatures that inhabit the Abyss have developed ways to sense its flow and avoid it.

141.
142. ### Strains of Ascension
143. ##### The deeper one delves, the more severe the symptoms are, ranging from dizziness and nausea to intense pain throughout the body, loss of senses and even death. This makes the return trip from the Abyss extremely difficult, and it is not uncommon for delvers to perish on the way up. Particularly, the curse of the 6th layer ("loss of humanity or death") makes the return journey physically impossible for humans. At the lowest depths of the abyss, even getting out of bed can make you feel like you're on the verge of throwing up.

144.
145. ### Curse Unknown
146. ##### The Curse results from piercing the force field of the Abyss while ascending, although this fact is not generally known. Therefore, areas where the force field is weaker also result in the effects of the curse being less severe. In certain specific places, the force field isn't present at all, and so the Curse doesn't occur either.

154.
155. ### The Blessing of The Abyss
156. ##### An exceedingly rare and top secret phenomenon occasionally takes place within the Abyss under very specific circumstances. It was first discovered by the White Whistle Delver Bondrewd when he was experimenting with the Curse of the 6th layer. Much like with the Curse of the Abyss, the event occurs during the ascent, but two people are needed to trigger the phenomenon. If one person bears the entire burden of the Curse for both people (through the use of an Artifact or another similar instrument), the other is spared the effects of the curse.

157.
158. ### A Price to Pay
159. ##### Bondrewd modified several Artifacts to create an elevator to observe the Blessing phenomenon. This two-chambered elevator carries two people but forces the entire weight of the Curse onto a single person. If the person receiving the Curse doesn't die midway through, the other is spared the Curse's effects. Bondrewd discovered deep love between the two people results in the event he called a "Blessing" for the one who does not receive the burden of the Curse. While the Blessing was experimentally demonstrated, Bondrewd cannot explain the reasons behind it.

160.
161. ### Blessing's Gift
162. ##### When one is Blessed, they grow fur all over their body, and some of their traits, like the eyes or fingers, become mutated. The Blessing is not merely in looks: The one gifted gains the ability to observe the force field of the Abyss, something that only the predators of the deep are able to see, and is an incredibly useful ability for delving in the pit. It also appears to increase their physical fortitude to some extent.

While they're fairly knowledgeable, Red Whistles lack the physical fortitude to get very deep, so they're only allowed to descend down to 550 meters. Going any deeper is treated as an accident or rebellious behavior, and a rescue party is sent to retrieve them. If a Red Whistle somehow manages to descend 1,350 meters, to the 2nd layer, it is treated as suicide and search parties are called off.
222.
223. ### Blue Whistles
224. ##### Blue Whistles are the adepts. They are more experienced Delvers who have managed to prove themselves. Blue Whistles are allowed to delve down to the 2nd layer of the Abyss, so they most likely possess an acceptable fighting ability to fend off the beasts of the Forest of Temptation. Typically and with the appropriate training, one attains the rank of Blue Whistle at the age of 15; though, there can be exceptions to this.
225.
226. ### Moon Whistles
227. ##### Moon Whistles are the teachers. They are highly proficient Delvers that carry an extensive knowledge of the Abyss. Moon Whistles can delve down to the 3rd or 4th layer safely, so their delving ability is in a completely different level to Blue Whistles. They're considered experienced enough to serve as teachers for the newer generations.
228.
229. ### Black Whistles
230. ##### Black Whistles are the experts. They are extremely talented Delvers that have mastered the techniques of delving. Black Whistles may reach down to the 4th or 5th layer of the Abyss, which is the point at which the strains of ascension can cause one-touch insanity. They also sometimes work under White Whistles as subordinates and assist them in their expeditions.

247. ##### White Whistles are the legends. They are considered to be the greatest Delvers of all. Their achievements have changed the world, and their discoveries astonished all, turning them into spectacular historical figures. White Whistles are titled after their unique persona ("sovereign of" or "lord of") and reach a whole new level incomparable to that of other Delvers. They are armed to the teeth with Artifacts of the Abyss and represent a formidable force. Because of their status, any information that is officially passed by them is considered a fact, no matter how absurd.
248.
249. ### The Last Dive
250. ##### White Whistles do not have any depth limit; however, since the strains of ascension make it humanly impossible to survive the ascent from the 6th layer, for most of their life, they limit themselves to the 5th layer. At some point when they make the decision, a White Whistle will descend into the inviolable 6th layer. Since returning from this point is impossible, this descent is called The Last Dive, and it represents the most important point of their career: delving into largely unknown territory.
251.
252. ### Together Forever
253. ##### Their whistles themselves cannot be obtained through conventional means. White Whistles are made out of life reverberating stones, which can only be obtained through the remains of a loved one of the Delver. Once the stone is refined into a White Whistle, it will sound only for the Delver it was created for and its sound can bring out the true purpose of most Artifacts.

A Special Grade Artifact's value is so great that it can't be measured. It allows the user who synchronizes with it to plant his soul into other living beings, spreading the consciousness throughout multiple bodies. However, if the user overuses it and spreads their consciousness into too many bodies, the hosts will lose their sense of self, develop strange behavior, and eventually go insane. If the user has the desire, a mere touch is enough to possess another body, and it's impossible to escape the enchantment. The subject does not necessarily have to be human, since when it was first discovered, small animals were manipulating small insects into getting eaten.
