  1. SteamVR can have difficulty gaining proper access to Windows Device resources if your Windows User Account has any special characters or spaces in it.
  2.
  3. Simply renaming your Windows User Account does not change the directory structure completely. A new Windows User Account must be created without any accent, foreign characters or spaces. This should clear any conflicts that prevent SteamVR from establishing communication with your VR equipment.
  4.
  5. Also, make sure that USB power management is disabled. For diagnostic purposes, remove any non-essential USB devices before starting.
  6. Restart your computer and plug your Link Box into a USB 2.0 port.
  7. Power cycle your Vive's Link Box. Rebooting your computer won't reset the Link Box. To reset, remove the power cable from your Box.
  8. Reset your SteamVR USB devices from Settings > Developer > Reset.
  9. Disable Windows Enhanced Power Management for SteamVR devices from Settings > Developer > "Disable Power Management." Then, shut down SteamVR.
  10. Unplug the Vive's Link Box from your PC and reboot. Once your system restarts, reconnect the Link Box.
  11. Start SteamVR and retest the issue.
  12. --------------------------
  13. It still looks like there is something interfering with the USB connection to your headset.
  14.
  15. First, remove the Blue Yeti microphone and any associated applications, then restart your computer and test the issue again. Some users with this equipment have encountered similar issues. We also suggest removing any other non-essential USB equipment.
  16.
  17. It also looks like you have a number of programs installed that may interfere with Steam or SteamVR in some cases. For testing purposes, please uninstall the following programs:
  18. f.Lux
  19. InputDirector
  20. ASUS PC Diagnostics
  21. BitDefender security software
  22. Cheat Engine
  23. FRAPS
  24. RogueKiller
  25. MSI Afterburner
  26. RivaTuner Statistics server
  27.
  28. See our Programs Which May Interfere with Steam FAQ for more details - USB related utilities and software that uses an overlay are common causes of this. After removing any software, restart your computer and test the issue again.

  30. Let us know if these suggestions help. If you continue to have problems, send updated SteamVR and Windows system reports with your response.
  31. -------------
  32. This may be a hardware related problem - if you haven't already, we suggest contacting HTC Vive Support about this as well. They handle the repair of Vive equipment and will be your best source of help with hardware troubleshooting.
  33.
  34. It still looks like the BitDefender agent is running in the background. If you haven't already, make sure to restart your computer to ensure the removal of the software is complete. Background applications can keep running until you reboot.
  35. Using USBDEVIEW may also help - it is a tool that removes old USB device records from Windows. Removing these records can help with corrupt or incorrectly installed USB drivers. For full instructions on using USBDEVIEW please see our FAQ.
