Chapter 3
The Future Zero Saw

カレン
「ウイングガンダムゼロがもう1機あるなんて…!
どういうこと!?」
Kallen: I thought there was just one Wing Gundam Zero...! What’s going on!?

ヒイロ
「さあな。
しかし、あれは、このゼロと同じ力を
持っているらしい」
Heero: I don’t know. What I can tell you is that that Zero has the same power as my own.

カレン
「そんなことって…!」
Kallen: Then that means...!

スザク
(まさか、あの機体は…!
シュナイゼル殿下の…)
Suzaku: (Impossible, that machine is...! It’s Prince Schneizl’s...)

ゼロ
(俺の推測が正しければ、
この事件の首謀者は俺を標的としている)
Zero: (Looks like I guessed correctly. This affair’s mastermind is targeting me.)

ゼロ
(一連のテロ行為もゲーム感覚で
俺の行動を見て、楽しんでいる節がある)
Zero: (These repeated acts of terrorism were just a game to them, all for the sake of observing how I would react.)

ゼロ
(経験か、持っている力なのか…
何かしらの余裕すら感じる。しかし、それ故に
不利な状況に陥り、挑発されると…)
Zero: (I feel like they don’t need to take things seriously—perhaps because of experience, or possibly because of the power they hold. Which means that if the situation isn’t perfectly favorable, then with just the slightest provocation they should...)

(More Glasgows appear.)

C.C.
「ゼロ、新手が来るぞ!」
C.C.: Zero, a new batch of reinforcements just showed up!

ゼロ
(やはりな。
どうやら、子供っぽい思考もあるらしい。
それならば、引きずり出しようもある)
Zero: (Like clockwork. They certainly have a childish way of thinking. Which means they’ll definitely try to drag this out.)

ゼロ
「おい、ゼロ。
見せてみろ、お前が導き出す未来を」
Zero: Hey, Zero. Show me the future you’ve deduced.

ヒイロ
「待て。ゼロシステムを起動させる気か?」
Heero: Wait. Do you intend to activate the Zero System?

ゼロ
「心配するな。
お前とは違う、俺のやり方がある」
Zero: Not to worry. My way of doing things is different from yours.

(Zero’s Zero System activates.)

ヒイロ
「なるほど…そういうことか、ゼロ。
ならば…!」
Heero: I see... So that’s what you’re going for, Zero. In that case...!

(Both Wing Gundams fly in front of the reinforcements.)

ゼロ
「白と黒、二つのウイングガンダムゼロ…!
我らを前にして、そのような手はもはや無意味!」
Zero: White and black, two Wing Gundam Zeros...! Before the both of us, such tricks are utterly worthless!

(Both Wing Gundams destroy all the reinforcements.)

カレン
「凄い…!」
Kallen: Incredible...!

スザク
「ゼロがウイングガンダムゼロを
乗りこなしているというのか…!」
Suzaku: How is Zero so skilled at piloting Wing Gundam Zero...!?

ヒイロ
「どうやら問題ないようだな」
Heero: Looks like there won’t be any problems.

ゼロ
「ああ、後は勝利へ突き進むだけだ」
Zero: Indeed. We’ll claim victory with just one more push.

(Battle 1 starts.)

(This line plays if Zero battles an enemy.)

ゼロ
「黒の翼…その力を見るがいい」
Zero: Behold the might of Black Wing!

(This line plays if C.C. battles an enemy.)

 C.C.
(やっとあの窮屈な仮面を取ることが出来た。
面倒なことをしてやったんだ、後でピザを
たらふく食べさせてもらうからな、ルルーシュ)
C.C.: (Finally, I can take off that stuffy mask. After making me do such a bothersome favor, you’re going to get me all the pizza I could ask for when this over, Lelouch.)

(Battle 1 ends.)

ゼロ
「もうおしまいか、首謀者よ。
切り札の出し所を間違えると、
後で悔やむことになるぞ」
Zero: Is it already over, mastermind? I suggest you bring out your trump card, or you might regret it later.

???
「へえ、言ってくれるじゃないか」
???: Well, you asked for it.

(??? appears piloting the Gawain, alongside several Sutherlands.)

???
「まあいい、僕が直々に躾けてやるよ」
???: Fine then. I’ll teach you some manners personally.

(Scene ends.)

(Battle 2 begins.)

カレン
「あれはガウェイン!?」
Kallen: Is that Gawain!?

C.C.
「色は同じか。紛らわしいな」
C.C.: It looks the same. Quite an easy mix up, isn’t it?

ゼロ
「ふん、ようやくお出ましか。
ガウェインの予備機を持ち出すとは、
余程後がないと見える」
Zero: Ha, so you’ve finally appeared. When you have to break out a spare Gawain, it really looks like you have your back against the wall.

???
「新しい玩具を手に入れて上機嫌なようだね。
だけど、すぐに絶望させてやるよ」
???: I see that new toy put you in a good mood. But you’ll be crushed by despair soon enough.

ゼロ
「貴様が何者かは知らないが、
この醜悪なゲームを終わらせてもらう!」
Zero: I don’t know who you are, but I’ll be putting a stop to your repulsive game!

ゼロ
「総員、全力であのガウェインを撃墜せよ!」
Zero: All units! Focus all your firepower on shooting down that Gawain!

(Battle 2 starts.)

(This line plays if Zero battles ???.)

???
(このガウェインの性能はよく知っているはず。
乗り慣れないガンダムで勝てると思わないことだね)
???: (You should know all about the capabilities of this Gawain. Don’t expect you’ll win in a Gundam you aren’t even familiar with.)

ゼロ
「我らの前へ現れた時点で
お前の敗北は決まっている…!」
Zero: Your defeat was already decided the moment you appeared before us...!

(This line plays if Kallen battles ???.)

カレン
「ガウェインの同型機まであったなんて…!」
Kallen: How is there a machine that’s the same type as Gawain...!?

???
(まるで地を這うネズミだね。
空を飛べない君に勝ち目はないよ)
???: (It’s like a rat crawling around on the ground. Without being able to fly, you have no chance of victory.)

(This line plays if Heero battles ???.)

ヒイロ
「奴が最後のターゲットだ。
行くぞ、ゼロ」
Heero: This guy is the last target. Let’s go, Zero.

???
(君が視ている未来は、所詮機械がもたらしたモノ..
僕相手じゃ、夢に過ぎないね)
???: (The future you see is nothing more than a machine prediction. Against me, it might as well be a dream.)

(This line plays if Suzaku battles ???.)

スザク
「お前は何者だ!?
何故、一連の事件を目論んだんだ!?」
Suzaku: Who are you!? What was the point of this wanton destruction!?

???
(そんなこと、君が知る必要はないよ)
???: (You don’t need to know that.)

(This line plays if C.C. battles ???.)

???
(これも何かの縁だ。
ガウェイン同士で仲良く遊ぼうじゃないか)
???: (A chance encounter between Gawains. I suspect we’ll have a very fun time together.)

C.C.
「これ以上の茶番に付き合う気はないが…
首謀者が乗っているのなら、顔を見たいものだな」
C.C.: I’m done going on with this charade... If this is the mastermind, then I just want to see their face already.

(Battle 2 ends.)

???
「くっ…! まだ終わったわけじゃないよ」
???: Grrr...! Don’t think it’s over yet!

ゼロ
「ふん、これでチェックメイトだ!」
Zero: Ha! This is checkmate!

(Battle animation starts. Zero attacks ??? with Twin Buster Rifle Maximum Output.)

ゼロ
「さあ、ウイングゼロ最大の一手だ」
Zero: Now, Wing Zero’s most powerful move!

ゼロ
「ツインバスターライフル、最大出力…!」
Zero: Twin Buster Rifle, maximum output...!

ゼロ
「終わりだ! ハハハハハハハハ!!」
Zero: It’s over! Hahahahahaha!!

 ???
「くっ…! けどね、これも計算の内さ」
???: Agh...! Nevertheless, this is still within my calculations...

(Battle animation ends.)

???
「少し熱くなっちゃったかな…。
次のゲームも楽しみにしているんだね、
ルルーシュ」
???: Things are getting a little hot in here... I look forward to our next game, Lelouch.

(???’s Gawain explodes.)

ヒイロ
「…終わったか」
Heero: ...It’s over.

ゼロ
(パイロットが脱出した形跡はなかった。
あのガウェインも無人機…
いや、そうとは思えなかったが)
Zero: (There’s no signs that the pilot ejected. Was that Gawain an unmanned drone...? No, that doesn’t seem likely.)

カレン
「結局、首謀者が何者なのかわからなかった…」
Kallen: In the end, we never figured out who the mastermind was...

C.C.
「また現れるのかもな」
C.C.: I don’t think this is the last we’ll be seeing of him.

カレン
「え…!?」
Kallen: Huh...!?

ゼロ
「この周辺はまもなくブリタニア軍に封鎖される。
各機、直ちに離脱するぞ」
Zero: The Britannian Army will have this vicinity blockaded shortly. All units, withdraw immediately.

スザク
「待て、ゼロ!」
Suzaku: Wait, Zero!

ゼロ
「礼を言わせてもらうよ、枢木スザク。
シュナイゼルのおかげでもう一機、ウイングガンダム
ゼロを手に入れることが出来たのだから」
Zero: I’d like you to pass along a word of thanks, Suzaku Kururugi. With Schneizl’s help, I have now acquired another Wing Gundam Zero.

スザク
「やはり、その黒いウイングガンダムゼロは、
シュナイゼル殿下が製造していた…」
Suzaku: So that black Wing Gundam Zero is in fact the one Prince Schneizl had been producing...

ゼロ
「間違っているぞ、枢木スザク。
この機体はゼロリベリオン…、
ウイングガンダムゼロリベリオンだ!」
Zero: You’re mistaken, Suzaku Kururugi. This machine is Zero Rebellion... Wing Gundam Zero Rebellion!

スザク
「なっ!?
何を馬鹿なことを…」
Suzaku: Wha...!? What is this nonsense!?

ゼロ
「このウイングガンダムゼロリベリオンは、
我が[黒の騎士団]で有効的に活用させてもらう。
さらばだ! フハハハハ!」
Zero: The Wing Gundam Zero Rebellion will surely become one of the [Black Knights] greatest assets. Farewell! Mwahahahaha!

(The Black Knights leave the map.)

スザク
(ふう…追うことは出来ないか。
だけど、ゼロのおかげで租界を守れたのも事実。
今日のところは諦めるとするよ、ゼロ)
Suzaku: (Haa... I can’t chase after them. Besides, it’s a fact that that Zero helped protect the settlement. I’ll give up on chasing you down today, Zero.)

(Scene ends.)

黒の騎士団潜水艦格納庫

Black Knight’s Submarine - Hangar

カレン
「この黒いウイングガンダムゼロは、
いったいどうやって…」
Kallen: Just where did this black Wing Gundam Zero come from?

ゼロ
「元々、ウイングガンダムゼロはヒイロの仲間が
ある設計図を基に造った物だ。そして、私が
それを[ブリタニア]側へ意図的にリークした」
Zero: The Wing Gundam Zero was based on blueprints provided by Heero’s comrades in the first place. I merely leaked those designs to [Britannia].

カレン
「設計図があるなら、何でそんなことを?」
Kallen: Why would you do that if you had the blueprints?

ヒイロ
「レジスタンス活動を主とする黒の騎士団で、
ガンダムのような巨大な機体を製造すると、
足が付くからだな」
Heero: The Black Knights primarily engage in acts of resistance. Manufacturing a machine as large as a Gundam would be too noticeable and easily traced back to us.

ゼロ
「そうだ」
Zero: Correct.

カレン
「じゃあ、わざとあれをブリタニアに造らせた…?」
Kallen: So, you let Britannia make it on purpose...?

ゼロ
「ああ。最初の事件の時、ウイングガンダムゼロの
有用性が示されたからな。ブリタニアの
シュナイゼル辺りが興味を持つと予測した」
Zero: I did. From the onset of this incident. I allowed Wing Gundam Zero to display its usefulness for all to see. I predicted that Britannia’s Schneizl would take a keen interest in it.

ゼロ
「案の定、設計図を手に入れたあの男は
すぐに製造を命じた」
Zero: Sure enough, that man snatched the blueprints right away and ordered its production.

カレン
「それで、完成した黒いウイングガンダムゼロを
奪って来たと…」
Kallen: And then you stole the completed black Wing Gundam Zero for yourself...

藤堂
「我々にも黙って、か。
あれは守りが強固な所で製造されていたはず。
危険過ぎるな」
Todo: And you remained silent to us on the matter, huh. I expect it was manufactured in a place that was well defended. It must have been dangerous to pass through there.

ゼロ
「無論、リスクは承知の上で綿密な潜入作戦を練った。
それに、敵を欺くにはまず味方からというだろう?」
Zero: Naturally. I knew the risks well and crafted an intricately thorough infiltration strategy. Besides, I’m sure you’ve heard that to deceive your enemy, you must first deceive your allies, correct?

カレン
「だから、C.C. にゼロの格好をさせて
私達まで騙したんですか?」
Kallen: So then, C.C. disguised herself as Zero to trick us?

C.C.
「こうでもしないと、
黒幕が出て来なかったから…だろう?」
C.C.: “If you don’t do this, the puppeteer will never come out.” ...Isn’t that what you said?

ゼロ
「ああ。
首謀者を叩かなければ、今回の事件は終わらない。
それ故、あいつを引きずり出さなければならなかった」
Zero: Indeed. If the mastermind wasn’t defeated, these recent incidents would never come to an end. Then, dragging them out would have been impossible.

ゼロ
「そのためには、味方を騙してでも
あいつを欺く必要があった」
Zero: It is for this reason that tricking my allies was necessary to deceive my enemy.

藤堂
「今回の事件は終わりだとしても、
ウイングガンダムゼロの設計図がブリタニアにある
以上、連中はまたあれを造るのではないか?」
Todo: These incidents may be over, but Wing Gundam Zero’s blueprints are still in Britannia. Won’t they just make another one?

ゼロ
「心配は無用だ。
ウイングガンダムゼロの性能…その真の力を
引き出せる者はそう簡単に見つかるものではない」
Zero: There’s nothing to worry about. They’ll have a hard time finding someone capable of drawing out the true power of the Wing Gundam Zero.

ゼロ
「迂闊に扱えば、暴走する。
あれは諸刃の剣なのだ」
Zero: If handled carelessly, one would simply rampage wildly. It’s a double-edged sword.

ヒイロ
「………」
Heero: ...

カレン
「まあ、何にせよ、これで一件落着ってことか。
安心したら、お腹が空いてきちゃった」
Kallen: Well, anyway, that means this matter is settled, right? That’s a relief, but now I’m starving.

C.C.
「なら、ピザをとってくれ」
C.C.: In that case, how about we get pizza?

カレン
「海の中にピザ屋が来るわけないでしょ」
Kallen: You know there’s no pizza place that delivers to the middle of the ocean, right?

C.C.
「お前が店まで取りに行けばいいだろう」
C.C.: You should go to the store and get it then.

カレン
「何で私が! 自分で行きなさいよ!」
Kallen: Why should I have to!? Go get it yourself!

「…ゼロ、一つ聞きたいことがある」
Heero: ...Zero. There’s one thing I have to ask you.

ゼロ
「何だ?」
Zero: And that is?

ヒイロ
「ゼロシステムはお前にどんな未来を見せた?」
Heero: What kind of future did the Zero System show you?

ゼロ
「勝利するため、
[アッシュフォード学園]にいる者達を犠牲にした
どうしようもない未来だ」
Zero: A hopeless future, where [Ashford Academy], and everyone inside had to be sacrificed to achieve victory.

ヒイロ
「なら、お前はどうやって…」
Heero: Then how did you...

ゼロ
「俺には、お前のような強靭な精神力はない。
だから…」
Zero: I do not possess the strong mental fortitude that you have. Therefore...

ゼロ
「提案したんだよ。
ゼロシステムにより良い方法を、
誰も犠牲にならずに勝つ方法をな」
Zero: I made a proposal. I suggested a better method to the Zero System. A method that could achieve victory without the need for sacrifice.

ヒイロ
「そんなことが…」
Heero: But how...?

ゼロ
「簡単だ。
チェスを打つように、相手の考えを上回れば
いいだけなんだからな」
Zero: It’s simple. Just like chess, you need only to exceed your opponent’s expectations.

ヒイロ
「そうか。
それで、ゼロはお前がシステムを起動したあの時、
俺に勝利する未来を見せたというわけか」
Heero: I see. So when your Zero System activated at that time, that was when mine showed me victory.

ヒイロ
「くくっ、はーはっはっ!」
Heero: Heh heh, Ha-haha!

「?」
Zero: ?

ヒイロ
「いや、面白い奴だな、お前は」

「ふっ、お前には言われたくない」
Zero: Heh, that’s rich coming from you.

ヒイロ

Heero: Heh heh.

ゼロ
「ふふっ」
Zero: Haha!

C.C.
「ふっ、お前たち二人とも面白い奴らだよ」
C.C.: Heh, I’d have to say you’re both interesting guys.
