  1. "[She] is the deity this library was built as a shrine for. From what I get, her area is 'knowledge'. I suppose that's what I need. I need to know. To know a way out, to know a way to revert this mess, to know if we're even gonna see another day." -Log of a mercenary captain; #77-8604

  3. Luc'Shaatoth is a cosmic entity which has been attributed many names. "The Omniscience", "That which killed the cat", "Forbidden Truth", are just a few of thousands if not more throughout time. Her origins are unclear if there even are any, as she had never been 'born', she simply 'is', much like the human concept of time. As she is not native to the universe in which Man resides, it can be said that she came beyond the stars. Paradoxically, or inevitably, despite the concepts she is most well known for in the circles which worship her, little to nothing is truly known about her.

  5. Although many interpretations differ within the limits of language, timeframe, and culture, all still coincide to show a relatively young human woman of long, dark hair obscuring her eyes. These depictions tend to be seen in places of religious importance regardless of wealth and class, from simple and crude engravings on walls from individuals seeking her out to great cults able to have anything ranging from paintings to statues of her done, but all still vary save for the aforementioned traits. Unfortunately, all had met an unspecified, abrupt end.
  6.
  7. Those who seek her out do so out of a desire for "knowledge", seeing her as the embodiment of such. Knowledge of what varies, be it of menial trivia, of magics, of engineering of all kinds, so long as it's driven by a mind curious enough to be willing to deal with the proverbial devil. Many times, she answers, but her answers tend to be more than what they had expected. Eventually, madness sets in, fuelled either by a crushed worldview or ego, or even further questions that create a vicious cycle. Because of that, her cults generally tend to not last long, but Mankind's insatiable curiosity keeps making them appear over and over and over throughout the ages.

  9. Some depictions show her with a book, though they tend to be few and far between. Infighting had occurred in a great many sects as to whether Luc'Shaatoth has one at all, and though it is true that she does, hardly anyone knows what it really is other than a bad omen. It had received nicknames due to its nature, "The book of a thousand names" being the most common one, as the book itself had no title of its own. One would not find any two people who saw the same thing, as the book changed its cover based on the viewer's greatest interest, as if luring them in.
  10.
  11. The contents, inevitably, would follow the same principle. At first it'd satiate the curiosity of the reader, though little by little its details would grow disturbing. The change would be so gradual, taking months if necessary, that the reader would consider it mildly creepy at worst despite the book itself having gotten him used to concepts such as ritualistic sacrifice and other socially abhorrent ideas as if they were natural and morally justified. He would imagine nothing wrong with its contents, despite having been made to sacrifice many of those around him for greater clues as to what else the book had to offer. In due time, society would find out about him and grant his quest an untimely end, and the book would disappear to find itself in the hands of another too-curious soul.
