  1. In the following 2 weeks (10 classes) you are going to listen to the audiobook/read the book and you will be working on this packet. None of the tasks is connected with any specific chapter, so make sure you take the notes and/or fill in information when you hear the things you need. It is best to read the questions before you start listening. In the end you have to write an essay on the given topic. Everything you write before will help you in creating your text.
  2. Book:_________________________ Student name: ______________________ Class:_______
  3. Directions: Complete the two charts with notes, questions, comments, and discussion points that you have while listening to your book independently. This will help you better understand the text, be meta-cognitive (think about your thinking), and it will effectively contribute to the summary. Remember to cite the chapters after your remarks.

  82. how the capitol functions internally. how they build the arenas. also if there is a plague how will they survive. There's only 1 district that produces food. so if there was an infection within the plants what would happen. would everyone just starve?

  112. Please answer the following questions about the main character in your book. There are more in a set to guide you.
  113.
  114. The main character had a lot to learn. What are some of the most important things he/she did not know and found out later? How did those make his/her life more difficult? How did any previous knowledge help him/her? Why did he/she act like that in difficult situations?
  115. some of the most important things she had to learn was the mockingjay. that she was the symbol of the revolution. she didn't know why people showed her the mockingjay. when she is being shown off to the public by cinna, her stylist. She wears a wedding dress, but the wedding dress can burn up by design which shows her as the mockingjay. There was also the clue that plutarch gave her by showing her the watch, because the arena is laid out like a watch.
  116. Did (s)he develop or change somehow from the beginning up to the end of the book?
  117. What words or actions can most explicitly show this change?
  118. I don't believe she changed. She is still as stubborn, dull headed as usual. she doesn't notice who she is, how she affects people, and how she sparks the revolution. all she does is let other people do everything for her as she just sits there and doesn't take the orders that would have helped people.
  119.
  120.
  121.
  122. Are there other people (or maybe certain situations) who influenced the character the most, in a positive or a negative way? Do you think that (s)he influences them in some way? Does (s)he benefit from meeting or getting to know any of them? How? Do they benefit from meeting him/her?
  123. as i was reading this book i kept thinking to myself how shallow these characters are. how 2 dimensional they seem. they all get influenced or changed in the most basic ways. katniss was like “oh hey peeta i actually don't love you” and peeta was like “ok then let's just be friends'' but actually he still secretly loved her. congratulations suzanne collins you made slight character development. like this is a serious question but why would you study these books over her older less popular material. gregor the overlander is one of the best book series i have read in awhile. I have reread it over 4 times and it still holds up great. with good characters and amazing worldbuilding. AND THEN HER OTHER TRILOGY WHICH NEVER NEEDED TO BE A TRILOGY GOES ON TO BE MORE POPULAR LIKE OMG SUZANNE COLLINS REALLY YOU KICKSTART ONE OF THE WORST PHASES IN LITERATURE EVER AND IT GETS PRAISED. MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM.
  124.
  125.
  126. Are there life-changing decisions that (s)he makes? Why do you think (s)he comes to any of these decisions? Do they change anything further? If yes, what?
  127. She does make life changing decisions. such as her decision to marry peeta. this actually has an effect on the story as now she has to deal with all the repercussions. such as might being forced to have a kid to keep the act up, as she was forced to do this by president snow. and president snow threatens her family and gale to make this happen. This is one of the few times in the book that Katniss is actually being smart and attentive.
  128. While listening to the book, and after you finished it, what are the most evident character traits that can describe your protagonist? Please provide an explanation for your choice, elaborate the opinion by describing and providing evidence why you think that.
  129. Katniss is blunt, headstrong, and stubborn. She doesn't want to be a symbol of a revolution. She just wants a peaceful life for her and her family. but she gets thrown into action against her will over and over again. but she goes with it. because she doesn't want to be a pawn. but she becomes one for another organization. the rebels in district 13
  130. PLOT SUMMARY: In the following lines please briefly summarize the plot of the story, focusing only on the most important events.
  131. After the events of the first book, Katniss is in the victor's village living with Peeta and her family. one day President Snow comes over to threaten katniss. he says that if she doesn't keep up the charade of being in love with peeta and convinces the people of panem that she did an attempted sucide out of love and not defiance (even though she did it for neither of those reasons) he will harm her family. She then goes on a tour of the panem with haymitch and effie. This so-called victors tour is to show Katniss and the viewer how badly everyone is being treated and the many signs of uprising. after returning to district 12 she sees Gale being whipped and uses her influence as a victor to stop it. they then find out that the next hunger games (or quarter quill) is a competition between the victors, and as the only girl, she must go into the arena once more. After fighting in the arena she gets picked up by an airship and is flown to district 13, where she is then used as a sign of a rebellion she never meant to start.
  132.
  133. Based on the above, what do you think is/(are) the theme(s), the main message of the novel?
  134. the glorifications of violence in american culture, class structures and inequality. appearances and the importance they have in our day to day Lives, the ignorance of the rich to the brutality that has befallen them.
  135. Why did the author decide to write this story? What do you think?
  136. She decided to write this novel because the first one did extremely well, so she was like screw it. I'll make another one. like literally nobody needed a second book. the other one tied up loose ends very well.
  137.
  138. Final task: Essay
  139. In this part you should write a 3-paragraph essay (introduction, main body, conclusion) to discuss the following topic about the protagonist of the story. All of the questions you discussed in the previous sections can help you create your text.
  140.
  141. The protagonist is a symbol for the revolution for most of the novel. She is the mockingjay. That's why Plutarch shows her the watch with a mockingjay imprinted on it. It means alliance to the cause.
