Reaching Out to the Stars

Sparks reach out towards the night sky, overpowering the light from the stars. The sound of combat echoes throughout Mesagoza. The winds howl and the trees dance, cheering at the battle raging on below. Within the city courtyard that is now lit up like a grand stage stand tonight's main act. La Primera, Geeta, stands on one corner accompanied by a very tired looking salaryman. On the other are Kingu and a young woman. She wears a light gray dress with white frills and black stars lined up at the front. Her black hair is short with a green streak across her bangs, and her face are obscured by a porcelain mask that compliments her bright orange eyes.

"THERE IT IS EVERYBODY! THE FIRST K.O. OF TONIGHT'S BATTLE IS A DUAL KNOCKOUT FROM MISTER LARRY AND MISS ANOME! WHAT A STUNNING TURN OF EVENTS!"

The speakers blare and the crowd roars in response.

"Tauros, return."
"Thank you, Milotic!"

Both trainers return their Pokemon to them, but battle does not wait. Geeta's Glimmora fires off a spread of countless crystalline lights up at the sky. They converge behind Kingu's Togekiss as it weaves through the air, rapidly changing directions in an attempt to evade them.

"Down!"

The fairy instantly drops at immense speed, bolstered by gravity. The gems give chase. Kingu snaps his fingers and Togekiss begins to adjust its trajectory, heading straight to its opponent. Geeta's eyes light up as she orders her Glimmora to use Light Screen. The white-haired man smirks and answers with the same command. Togekiss continues its dive at blinding speed.

"Let's continue, Altaria!"
"Get them, Kommo-o!"

The two Light Screens collide and instantly shatter, briefly breaking the fairy's momentum. In that moment it deftly moves past Glimmora whilst turning around. The gems break away once more to move around their caster and continue the chase, however...

"Aura Sphere!"

The stage is engulfed in light as the attacks connect and both Pokemon are sent flying in opposite directions. Togekiss skids across the ground, having taking both the recoil of its own point-blank attack and stray hits from Power Gem. Their partners waste no time in issuing commands of their own. Altaria seizes upon Togekiss while Kingu calls out for it to use Moonblast. However it lands on Larry's Protect which is then followed up by Ice Beam. Unable to recover fast enough, Togekiss is sent out of the ring.

At the same time, Kommo-o clangs its scales with such force that it tears even the earth below apart. The shockwave resounds in the direction of the recovering Glimmora. It connects, but not before Amone's Kommo-o is hit from below by a last minute Earth Power. Glimmora too is knocked out.

"AND ONCE AGAIN, ANOTHER QUICK SERIES OF KNOCKOUTS!? THIS MATCH IS STARTING TO CRANK UP INTO HIGH GEAR!"

"Larry read me like a book. Still, nice work for finishing the job Nemo— Amone!" Kingu catches himself before whispering to his comrade, "Seriously, who are you kidding with that name?!"

The young woman giggles, "Fue en el último minuto! I didn't really think about it until I was on the spot! Still though, Geeta's as difficult to deal with as I had hoped! Had'ta use Clanging Scales to avoid the toxic spikes and I still got hit by her counter."

"Kommo-o's been left weakened, right? Let me take the charge then." He responds, before giving her a wink. "It's showtime, Miss Amone."

"Ooh! Let's go all out then!"

On the other side of ring La Primera returns her Pokemon, smiling all the while. "A risky play made by placing all his trust on his Pokemon and his partner. A swift follow-up that bore in mind Glimmora's ability. If not for the minuscule difference in speed then she would have gotten off unscathed. We would have been in a bit of trouble then wouldn't we, Larry?"

The man closes his eyes. "Likely. If my guess is correct, then the next opponent will be..."

"Come, Sala-." Kingu interrupts himself. He then turns to the crowd and opens his arms. His yellow eyes glow bright and with a beaming grin he proclaims, "No. Tonight under this beautiful sky there is no need for such deceit. Bear witness, for even with the highest star of Paldea descended upon this stage there is only one true ruler of these heavens!"

He throws his PokeBall up at the sky. A fierce whirlwind picks up as it ascends, becoming the eye of the storm.

"Come, Roaring Moon!"

The storm breaks as the ball splits open, torn apart by the raw intensity of the dragon's roar. The crowd goes into a frenzy as it crashes down to meet its opponents. Geeta's Dragapult, having already taken the stage, bellows in response. All four dragons slowly circle each other, growling all the while. Time stops. The wind falls silent. The trees cease dancing. The audience goes quiet as the moment stretches out into what seems like an eternity. The only audible sound is the low hum of barely restrained aggression, until...

Laughter. Anome, Kingu and even Geeta break out into a bout of hysterics. Even Larry bears a subdued smile.

"It seems you lot are thinking this one carefully!"

"Of course, of course! This has been the most fun I've had in a good while, it'd be a shame to let it end so soon! Perhaps you may think me unfair for doing this, since I've never seen you do it yourself."

"Don't worry about it, this cabezón loves the challenge!"

Three trainers reach into their clothing, and each pull out a brilliant crystal orb.

"Go on, let's give them one to remember."

Sparks reach out to the heavens once more and all of Mesagoza cries out in unison.

"TERRASTALLIZE!"
