- Drowning, that's my first memory of that world. The murky brine that fills a mortal mouth, and obfuscates 18 divine senses. Then amidst the dying and the charnel in the murk a gloved hand reaches for mine, pulls me up out of the water and the next words I hear are "Sylvester? Sylvester, what the hell did they do to you?!"
- "Injected. Tempered with...fire pit. Into something that could summon a god" I gurgle. I stare at the concerned woman as my overself finishes subsuming this identity and add 'I think that god was me. We have to get out of here"
- "The metas sunk my Bat-tleship, but we can take the Batquascooter to the Batmarine"
- "Nah, my ride's already here" I said, as memories about a mob and mist crawled guiltily in my skin and a boom tubed opened with a wave of my hand.
- Falling. That's my first memory of this world. I practically threw Bryce at the incoming League.
- I went back to Apokalips. Later, I heard Superman call his home a graveyard in another time and place. What was left of Apokalips was too devastated to call a graveyard. The crumbling faces of it's former lord, the patches of greenery where the paradise within had spilled out and withered into yellowish death, the thunder of molten metal pouring out of sickly firepits cannibalised by Micro-Mark into outer space like dying cancerous tissue.
- Nothing would ever grow from it again. You could tell, just by being there.
- MEANWHILE on Earth it was public knowledge everyone suddenly learned what a true New God actually was, which overshadowed the interdimensional anomaly thing for most people. There was a lot of "huh, MEN amirite?" and then everyone went back to watching Superwoman shoot little superwomen out of her fingers because this reality has a way of keeping you busy.
- We needed a Venturan luck dial.
- >Imouto #4: "Got it!"
- We needed an Auran Star-Brand.
- >Ardina: "Took a bit of finding, but it's...a bit disappointing compared to the one back home"
- We needed an Antimatter Battery.
- >Grail: "Got it!"
- We needed a Lantern ring. We needed all of that, the resources of my own New God colony and a hefty amount of time to make something based on this...thing that haunted my dreams. I'm pretty sure the thing I'd called the Blackstar Manifold was something less robust than the Controller design that technically came from the future. So I turned part of it into an in-house gym for extra oomph.
- And during it all, some of us had trouble...going native. Bryce was still freaking out about how the whole metahumans everywhere thing had more or less worked out in the world above, even after coming to terms with the help the League had given us, unknowing of the Dark Multiverse's nature. My pokemon were coping with hits to the SAN at the Silver Age being itself, while Elodie was becoming a bit of a Cassandra trying to tell people about the great cosmic birb and the Totality.
- "Okay" I said on the big day, "on the count of 3 I need everyone to grab the nearest piece of exercise equipment and flex like a world depends on it. Because it does"
- "But why?" asked Gali.
- "According to my calculations willpower alone runs the risk of shattering a dark universe with Life Equation-derived technology. So by tapping into the multiversal power of muscles andpsychosexualenergyAHEM I'm going to restore Earth -11 faster than it disintegrates as we vibrate it up, up and away into somewhere it can be lodged safely here in the positive matter multiverse! If it worked for those Superman fear guys, it's just a matter of scale! All will be well!"
- "No, I mean why are we saving this horrible nightmare realm?" asked Gali.
- "Because...because they didn't ASK to be a horrible nightmare realm" I finally said. "Because I turned my back on one horrible nightmare realm full of innocent people once, and because unlike that one you can do ANYTHING in this one if you try hard enough. And even if this doesn't work I just, I just want to give it a try dammit"
- And then we flexed. Biceps straining, thighs a-sweating, abs bulging out. We flexed with all the ridiculous force and determination of people who'd had to fight off the Time Trapper from breaking in and trying to harness the machine to his own insidious ends-or just fuck with me, we weren't sure. We flexed all our sorrow, all our hate, all our WILL into the very first Miracle Machine ever built-
- -and in the coming years, nobody would believe A MAN was why some odd, dark, genderswapped mirror to creation suddenly popped up in the depths of Limbo.
