However, due to being diagnosed with DID, she escaped capital punishment and was sent to SPHIA――

犬伏景子は、いろいろな意味で、日本の犯罪史を塗り替えている。%K%N
Inubushi Keiko had rewritten the history of crime in Japan, in many different ways.

未成年による連続殺人事件で、最も多い人命を奪った。%K%N
Her case marked the largest number of lives ever taken by a serial killer who was a minor.

そして、日本犯罪史上、女性による殺人事件ではトップの殺人数である。%K%N
And, in the history of crime in Japan, it was in the top place in terms of the number of people murdered by a female.

一般に、女性の連続殺人鬼というのは例がない。%K%N
In general, there is no precedent for a female serial killer like her.

アメリカで、『ハイウェイの死の貴婦人』と呼ばれた女殺人鬼アイリーン・ウォルノスが現れるまで、女性は連続殺人は行わないとさえ言われていたのだ。%K%N
Until the murderous monster known as the "Highway Lady of Death" appeared in America, it was even said that women couldn't be serial killers.

当然、日本では彼女が最初の女性殺人鬼である。%K%P
Of course, she was the first of her kind in Japan.

そして彼女は、日本裁判史上初のＤＩＤ認定者となった。%K%N
And she was the first person ever to be recognized as suffering from DID in the history of criminal trials in Japan.

これまでの裁判事例においても、ＤＩＤの疑いがあるという容疑者は存在した。%K%N
Before that court precedent was made, there had been several criminals suspected of having DID.

だが、裁判においてＤＩＤを理由に免罪された例は、今までなかったのだ。%K%N
However, there were no cases of trial acquittals by reason of DID until then.

理由は簡単。%K%N
The reason was simple.

乖離性同一性障害という病気の存在そのものが、疑わしいとされていたのだ。%K%N
The very existence of a dissociative identity disorder had been disputed.

精神医学界でも、いまだに意見は割れている。%K%N
The opinions of those in the field of psychiatry are still divided.

そのため、判決に際して考慮されることはあっても、それが免罪の理由とされることはなかった。%K%P
That's why, even if brought into consideration during sentencing, it was never used as a reason for a pardon.

そんな過去の事例を塗り替えて、犬伏景子には、ＤＩＤを理由に刑法３９条が適用された。%K%N
The past precedent was rewritten, and because of Inubushi Keiko, for the first time DID became a valid reason for application of article 39 of the penal code.

彼女がＤＩＤであると認定された理由は諸説あるが、中でも%TS036ＤＳＭ%TE－Ⅵの存在が最も大きな理由と言われている。%K%N
There are various reasons that she was acknowledged as suffering from DID, but the biggest one is said to have been the %TS036DSM%TE-VI.

ＤＳＭ－Ⅵは、ほんの数年前――２００８年に発行された最新版のことである。%K%P
The DSM-VI had been published just a few years earlier――the latest revision had been issued in 2008.

１９９４年発行の%TS037ＤＳＭ－Ⅳ%TEにおいて、ＤＩＤだと診断すべき症状は、次の四点を満たすものと規定されていた。%K%N
In the 1994 edition of the %TS037DSM-IV%TE, the criteria for a DID diagnosis comprised the following four points.

１――ふたつ以上の、明確なアイデンティティ・人格状態が存在する
1――Two or more distinct identities and personalities exist.

（環境や自己を認識し・関係づけ・考えることにおいて、それぞれが独自の、比較的持続するパタ－ンをもつ）%K%N
 (Possess awareness, recognition and cognition of self and surrounding environment, as well as individual personality characteristics.)

２――これらのアイデンティティ・人格状態の少なくともふたつが、個人の行動を繰り返し支配する%K%P
2――These identities, having at least two distinct personalities, continuously show individual behavior and conduct.

３――重要な個人情報を思い出すことができず、その広がりは通常の健忘で説明できない%K%N
3――Important personal information cannot be recalled, and this by extension cannot be explained with normal forgetfulness.

４――このような障害は、薬物による直接の生理的影響（例えば、アルコ－ル中毒で生じる記憶喪失・混乱行動）や一般的な病的状態によるものではない%K%N
4――These symptoms are not directly due to the influence of the physiological effects of drugs (for example, memory loss or violent behavior due to disorientation from alcohol poisoning) or a result of other general abnormal conditions.

この４点を満たせば、乖離性同一性障害と認定されるのである。%K%P
If these four criteria are fulfilled, the condition is recognized as Dissociative Identity Disorder.

しかし、以上の４点では、詐病の患者を弾くことができなかった。%K%N
However, even with the establishment of the four criteria above, they couldn't completely rule out out malingerers.

ふたつ以上の人格を完璧に演じ分けることができれば、ＤＩＤと認定されてしまうのである。%K%N
If two or more personalities could be perfectly acted out, it would be acknowledged as a case of DID.

それを悪用して、向精神薬の投薬を受ける者も現れた。%K%P
There have also been those who have tried to exploit this through the misuse of psychotropic drugs.

そこで、２００８年発行のＤＳＭ－Ⅵにおいて、次の項目が追加された。%K%N
As a result, the 2008 edition of DSM-VI included the following appended criterion.

５――以上の結果が、催眠導入中にも発現する%K%P
5――The above symptoms appear even while under induced hypnosis.

つまり、催眠術にかけられて演技ができない状態でも別の人格が現れるようなら、ＤＩＤと認めようというわけだ。%K%N
In other words, if a different personality arose even during hypnosis, a condition in which the patient is unable to act, they'll acknowledge it as DID.

この指針はＤＩＤに懐疑的だった日本精神医学界にも影響を及ぼした。%K%N
The addition of this guideline had an influence on the skeptical field of Japanese psychology.

日本でも上記の５項目に該当するならばＤＩＤと認定されるようになったのだ。%K%N
In Japan, it became accepted that a person was suffering from DID if the above five items were fulfilled.

犬伏景子はＤＳＭ－Ⅵの基準に従って催眠検査が行われ、ＤＩＤであることが認定された。%K%N
Inubushi Keiko had undergone an examination under hypnosis in accordance with the DSM-VI's standard, and was confirmed to have DID.

それが裁判でも証拠として認められ、犬伏景子は心神喪失者として免罪されたのだ。%K%P
That was acknowledged as evidence in court, and Inubushi Keiko was acquitted as a person suffering from an unsound mind.

Men have adventurous hearts, searching for glory by traveling to the depths of the ocean and the cosmos. My interest lies in the abyss of the human heart.

そして、私が犯罪心理学を学ぶうちに、最も興味を惹かれたのが、犬伏景子である。%K%P
And while studying criminal psychology, what attracted my interest the most was Inubushi Keiko.

この病気は、簡単に言えば、生来持っている人格とは別に、複数の人格が生まれてしまう病気だ。%K%N
This illness is, simply put, an illness where the birth of another personality not present when the person was born occurs.

原因は諸説あるが、『自我の発達が未発達な１２歳未満のときに、虐待などを受けること』が、主な理由であると言われている。%K%N
There are differing opinions as to the cause, but they say that "being exposed to ill treatment during the development of the ego before the age of twelve" is the root cause.

子どもには、自己暗示的に空想の人格を作り上げる性質がある。%K%N
Children can easily construct imaginary personalities in a way that resembles autosuggestion.

親から虐待を受けると、空想の人格の中に痛み・怒り・恐ろしい記憶を封印し、トラウマを癒そうとする。%K%P
If abused by their parents, they will seal the memories of their pain, anger, and fear within the imaginary personality, in order to relieve the pain of the trauma they sufferred.

つまり、虐待を受けているのは自分ではなく、空想の別の人間なんだと思いこむことで、自分を守ろうとするわけだ。%K%N
In other words, they protect themselves by thinking that the one being abused isn't them, but a different, imaginary self.

虐待を受けた人格も、本来は自分自身なのだから、自分の記憶として受け止めなくてはならない。%K%N
But the abused personality was also originally a part of the self, so it's necessary to accept those memories as their own.

しかし、その別人格に宿る痛みや苦しみの記憶は、主人格にとって受け入れがたいものだ。%K%N
However, the pain and suffering inflicted on the other personality is hard for the main personality to accept.%K%P

そのため、主人格と苦しみの記憶を持つ別人格を、ひとつにすることができず……もうひとつの人格として独立させてしまう。%K%N
Because of that, the main personality chooses to hold the memories of suffering inside the other self... they are not able to become one, and therefore a separate, independent personality is brought into existence.

記憶をひとつにすることができず、別離させてしまうという点を持って、乖離性同一性障害というのである。%K%P
The inability to combine their memories into one, to the point of forcing them apart into separate identities: that is Dissociative Identity Disorder.

At first, Inubushi Keiko's DID was thought to have stemmed from early childhood abuse.

そこで、担当精神科医によって徹底的な調査が行われた。%K%N
With that in mind, a thorough investigation was done by the leading psychologist.

だが、犬伏景子の母親が既に死亡していたため、具体的な虐待の事実は判明しなかった。%K%N
However, because Inubushi Keiko's mother was already deceased, there was no way to confirm the occurrence of childhood abuse as definite.

ただ、犬伏景子がＤＩＤとは別に%TS038境界性人格障害%TEを患っていると判明したことと、彼女の断片的な証言を元に、虐待が行われていただろうと推測がなされた。%K%P
But in addition to her DID, due to the confirmation that she was suffering from %TS038Borderline Personality Disorder%TE, as well as her fragmented testimony, it was widely assumed that she had been the victim of childhood abuse.

犬伏景子には、全部で１１人の人格が宿っているという。%K%N
It was said that Inubushi Keiko possessed a total of eleven personalities.

それぞれに、Ａ～Ｊのアルファベットが便宜的に割り振られている。%K%N
For the sake of convenience, her alternate personalities had been alphabetized and assigned letters from A to J.

もちろん彼女の各人格には、きちんと名前がついている……らしい。%K%N
Of course, each of her personalities were given proper names... or so it seems.

らしいというのは、その名前そのものはファイルには記されていないからだ。%K%P
I say it seems, because those names were not recorded anywhere in the file.

けれど俗称として、医師達はそれら１１個の人格を、『Ａ』～『Ｋ』と呼んでいた。%K%N
However, the doctors had also given her common names for each of the eleven personalities from "A" to "K."

なぜならば、医者の方から名前を尋ねたりしてしまうと、人格の乖離が進み、症状が悪化する場合があるからだ。%K%N
This was because, when the doctors asked for her name, the dissociative disorder would advance, and her condition would deteriorate.

また便宜的にＡ～Ｋと名付けたが、それで呼びかけるようなこともしなかった――医師達の間で符丁のような形で、あだ名が付けられたらしいけど。%K%N
In addition to calling them A through K for convenience, the doctors created nicknames, which they used like a code among themselves.

Her nickname was Frau.

非常に淫乱で、診察に当たった医師を淫らに誘惑したそうだ。%K%P
Extraordinarily lewd, it seemed she even seduced the doctor who was examining her.

そして、『Ｊ』と呼ばれる人格。%K%N
And then, the personality called "J."

これが、殺人鬼の人格であるらしい。%K%N
It appears that this one is the personality of the murderous monster.

医師達の陰の呼び名は、ジャック。%K%N
The doctors referred to this shadow side as Jack.

恐らく、ジャック・ザ・リパーからの下らない引用だろう。%K%N
It was most likely a trivial reference to Jack the Ripper.

犬伏景子と同じ、１７歳（事件当時）の女性だが……強い破壊衝動と嗜虐趣味を持っていた。%K%N
Similar to Inubushi Keiko, a 17-year-old (at the time of the incident) woman... but possessing strong destructive urges and sadistic hobbies.

つまり、殺人に快楽を覚えていたようなのだ。%K%P
In other words, she derived pleasure from the act of murder.

ファイルには、犬伏から現れた『Ｊ』が、診察室にあったハサミを奪い、医師に斬りつけたと書かれている。%K%N
According to the file, "J" had appeared while Inubushi was being held in an examination room, where she snatched up a pair of scissors and murdered the doctor.

阿波墨市立病院での連続殺人も、オリジナル人格の犬伏景子ではなく、この『Ｊ』が行ったことであると判断された。%K%N
It was also judged that the Awazumi serial murders were committed by "J."

『Ｊ』の凶行を、オリジナル人格である犬伏景子は止めることができない。%K%N
The original personality of Inubushi Keiko was unable to stop the violence of "J."

そのため、刑法３９条で言うところの、心神喪失状態と判断され、犬伏景子は免罪されたのである。%K%N
Because of that, in accordance with article 39 of the criminal code, Inubushi Keiko was judged to be of an unsound mind and was pardoned.
