  1. Dr. Akinar panted, his heart floundering in his chest the fastest it ever had. The rhythmic beats of the EKG and its pulsing waves told him this quite well. His trusty equipment didn’t fail him in his last moments.
  2. “You aren’t enjoying this?” A disembodied voice sneered from behind. “I thought you would. It’s your fantasy, isn’t it. To be dominated. To be an unwilling little slave- no, an animal. A pet. You’re a nasty man, Jared.”
  3. He didn’t even answer. Tubes ran down his throat, rubbing against the cut muscles and mangled vocal chords. Furthermore, a strap of leather bound his disfigured jaw to the top of his muzzle, keeping it from flapping downward in a facsimile of shock. Between his teeth and propping the mouth open was a chewy yet tough ball. Worst of all, the mirror in front of his face let him know exactly what he looked like. A deviant, a strapped-up bastard with a one-track mind. He shut his eyes. He’d normally admire the outfit, glory at its craftsmanship, marvel at how nicely it fit him... but now, it served only as a mockery. His fantasy. It was his private story, something he shared with his sweet Emily, something that was being ripped apart by this monster behind him.
  4. His head lay in a cage of restraints. He knew better than to move, though. He’d used this equipment on his own subjects. It wasn’t particularly painful; it wasn’t supposed to be. It kept them safe, from a sudden movement, from a botched operation and a destroyed future. Today, it was holding him from escaping.
  5. “I,” the smooth, the terrifying voice of that wicked woman said, “am going to show you that operation you so despise, that you’d argue with me for years over something so useful. You and your ethics! Hah. You’ll be a much more useful man when you’re not a man, Mister Jared Akinar. You’ll be so much nicer, so much more willing to comply.”
  6. He wanted to cringe, but realized the scope of his situation. It was no use to whine. No use to feel angry anymore; it would only make him more miserable in this already hopeless catastrophe. In his head, he sang a plea. His swansong, silent.
  7. Emily, my darling. I wanted to be by your side tomorrow, but I see that isn’t happening. Accept my apologies. We can’t be wedded. We can’t live that shared dream. I hope that, when this nightmare is over, I can see you again, even if I can’t remember who you are. I’m sorry.
  8. Mother, I won’t be joining you so soon in heaven. I hope you aren’t too distressed up there with Father. I’ll be alright. I’d like to meet you now, but it seems I have no choice in this matter.
  9. Zachary- when you find me, please remember me for who I was. I know I won’t be the same. Help me. Help me recover what I will lose-

  12. And his memory was ripped from him. The world came into view slowly; it took him a while to recognize what the blotches of color streaming from his eyes were. In front of him was a very strange person, tied up and very uncomfortable.
  13. Who are you?
  14. Jared, now nameless, tried to reach forward, only to find his entire body restrained.
  15. What’s happening? Why am-
  16. And the language of thought was silenced. No longer could he hear his voice speaking to himself. Only the meanings of words jumbled together in his mind now.
  17. Another creature stepped out from behind him. She, for he knew that it was a female, spoke to him in a language he didn’t know. He stared blankly. She chuckled. Her paws reached out to his face, and she stroked his drool-soaked chin. With a few more vocalizations, she returned to her post behind him. A sharp prick to his shoulder, a clear object shoved over his face, and the world faded to black.
