47. In an alternate Victorian Age world, a group of famous contemporary fantasy, science fiction, and adventure characters team up on a secret mission.
 48. In this adventure, the Fantom is trying to start a World War, and be at the head of it. The Fantom has highly superior weapons to the normal weapons of that day, and he also has extreme cunning, as we see by his tricking the countries into suspecting each other for war-mongering. A supposed loyalist to her Majesty's Empire is sent to fetch Allan Quatermain in an effort to track down the group who is trying to start the war. In a private and secret meeting, Quatermain meets who he is to be teaming up with on this mission. He is accompanied by Captain Nemo, Mina Harker, Rodney Skinner, Dorian Gray, Tom Sawyer, and Dr. Henry Jekyll (also Mr. Edward Hyde). Soon into their adventure they discover that the Fantom is behind these attacks, but there is more to this war than battle and cunning.
 49. This movie happened to be on TV on the evening after I had been stacking firewood for eight hours during the day as well as the day before, so since, as you can imagine, I wasn't seeking for something deep and meaningful, or, more accurately, completely lacked the energy to carry out anything barely resembling thinking, this really was perfect timing. Not often am I in the mood for such a movie, but this was certainly one of those rare moments. Even so I had a sneaky suspicion that I would turn away from the flick after 10 minutes, but I ended up enjoying it all the way through.

There isn't really much to say past that, honestly. It's just another one of those crazy fiction stylization-heavy special effects showoffs with a ridiculous plot constructed entirely of clichés. Well, LXG might even stand out here somewhat, as the number of clichés it contains truly is staggering, I did not know you could pile together THAT many into one movie. The special effects are top-notch, and enjoyable quite on their own. There were plenty of visually stunning scenes, and several moments with great atmosphere. Some of the creativity was actually quite impressive, so that also even stands out a bit. And then, of course, it had Sean Connery. What more can you ask? It is as good as this type of movies get without starting to require a bit of thinking on behalf of the viewer.

I can't see how anyone could be disappointed with this film, these people must have had some really outlandish expectations. Because while I knew nothing of what LXG was (I hear it's a comic book?), after spending two minutes at the IMDb and Wikipedia I knew EXACTLY what to expect and the movie turned out to be PRECISELY what I thought it would be. I got what I expected, with even a little bit of extra. And it was fun.

Six out of ten. Know what to expect, people.
 50. As the title says, if you're a big fan of one actor then just watch it for that actor, but the movie wasn't so bad as many reviewers have dogged it, I rented it out, watched it, had no expectations, just had a good time watching it with my one piece of eye-candy Stuart Townsend as the smothering Dorian Gray.

It's your typical action/adventure type of movie, that's all, if you just want to hang out with your mates on the weekend and rent out something, rent out League of Extraordinary Gentleman. You'll be impressed by special effects, that's all I can really say.

And girls if you love Stuart Townsend, this one is for you.
 51. Despite its preposterous leaps of logic, it somehow still emerges a reasonably entertaining summer blockbuster.
 52. The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen is a comic book series written by British writer Alan Moore, illustrated by Kevin O'Neill, and launched in 1999 as part of the America's Best Comics imprint of Wildstorm Comics. British screenwriter James Dale Robinson adapted the comics for the screen. They are all characters from fictional novels and include:

Allan Quatermain [Sean Connery], an English big game hunter introduced in the King Solomon's Mines novels of British author H. Rider Haggard.

Captain Nemo [Naseeruddin Shah], a scientific genius who roams the depths of the sea in his submarine, the Nautilus, in two of French author Jules Verne's novels Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea (1870) and The Mysterious Island (1874).

Mina Harker [Peta Wilson], the wife of Jonathan Harker, a solicitor who traveled to Transylvania to sell London properties to Count Dracula and later lived to regret it in the novel Dracula (1897) by Irish author Bram Stoker.

Dorian Gray [Stuart Townsend], a character created by Irish author Oscar Wilde in The Picture of Dorian Gray (1891). Dorian's picture grows older but Dorian does not.

Rodney Skinner, The Invisible Man [Tony Curran], a thief who apparently stole the invisibility formula from the invisible man of English author H.G. Wells' 1897 novel of the same name (still under copyright).

Dr Jekyll/Mr Hyde [Jason Flemyng], from Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde (1886), a novella written by the Scottish author Robert Louis Stevenson.

Special agent Tom Sawyer [Shane West] of the American Secret Service. From the novel The Adventures of Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain although, in that novel, he is only a young boy No. Skinner mentions that he stole the formula from a scientist, most likely referring to the original Invisible Man. The reason for the change is because another company owned the rights to that character, whose original name is Hawley Griffin. No. Dorian Gray is killed by Mina Harker. Quatermain is stabbed in the back by Professor Moritarity. However, the movie ends with a witch doctor casting a spell over Quatermain's grave.No. In May 2015 it was announced the film is to get a reboot.Yes. Connery retired from show business after The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, however he continued to do some voice acting, playing the title character in the animated short Sir Billi (2012) (2012). He calls himself the Fantom, but he turns out to be Professor James Moriarty. a5c7b9f00b
