- Theoretical Massive Sequence Breaks in Golden Sun
- While there are a lot of theoretical sequence breaks for Golden Sun, the following are a list of particularly interesting ones that may or may not be useful one day.
- 1. Duplicating Trident Prongs
- What: Obaba is not programmed to differentiate between the prongs. Giving her three center prongs (or any other combination of prongs) will cause her to forge the trident upon giving her the final piece.
- What is skipped: Ankhol Ruins/Gaia Rock, Shrine of the Sea God. Tundaria Tower is still necessary because you need to obtain burst. Once you have obtained burst the fastest trident piece would be the center prong. Shrine of the Sea God would be skipped because the trident piece would no longer be needed (but if you could obtain two center prongs only then the shrine piece would be the next fastest to acquire). Ankhol Ruins is only needed for the other prong piece, and Gaia rock is only needed to obtain Sand for Gaia rock (sand is used no where else in Any%)
- What doesn't work: The retreat glitch in Shrine of the sea God, Tundaria Tower and Ankhol Ruins cannot be used to pick up the prong/access the prong from the wrong room. This is because there is no item data in the first room of each of these dungeons.
- 2. Skip past the flooded floor in Tundaria
- What is skipped: Aqua Rock. The only place in the game where Parch is used (outside of Aqua Rock) is the second room of Tundaria Tower (the room which has two flooded paths). If a way could be found to get into the right path without needing parch then Aqua Rock could be skipped entirely.
- What doesn't work: The retreat glitch is useless here because the first room of Tundaria (the "exterior" room) is the only room in the map of the first area. This means the retreat glitch can only send you to the door leaving Tundaria Tower or entering the second room.
- 3. Post-Reunion Sequence Breaks
- What: Triggering the 'first flight' cutscene with Felix (via exiting the boat onto land and walking into the trigger) causes you to gain control of Felix at (0,0) on the World Map and for Felix to be treated like the boat (i.e. can only sail and can fly around). As the camera pans to Felix, objects on the world map lose their collision properties for some weird reason and you can fly around the out of bounds world map with Felix. This effect can be transferred to the boat (which is still situated near Atteka Inlet) by finding a place to 'dock the boat on a beach' as Felix (remember, he has boat like properties). This will cause Felix to exit the boat near Atteka, and reentering the boat will allow you to fly around the world map without collision for a time.
- The main question is whether disabling collision can be used to save time anywhere or, at best, cause a large sequence break.
- Through an elaborated procedure, it is possible to fly past the Northern Reaches and into the Proxian overworld. This can allow you to skip obtaining the Magma Ball. The set up for this is lengthy at present, and for any run-viable application a new set up would be required. The problem is that without visiting Magma Rock you are unable to complete Mars Lighthouse since you do not have Blaze. Once you have obtained Blaze it does not take long to get the Magma Ball. The best case scenario then is that you glitch to Prox, set the sanctum warp point to prox, backtrack to Magma Rock, get Blaze, then sanctum warp back to Prox. It seems unlikely that this is going to save time with current knowledge.
- 4. Gabomba Skip
- What: The series of flags required to get the boat are a bit confusing. The following events notable for accessing the boat
- - If you can get onto the deck of the boat with Piers (with or without the black crystal), Piers will grant you access to the boat
- - "You need to visit Madra" cutscene when trying to climb the ladder for the boat
- - Requires Piers
- - Disabled after speaking with the mayor of Madra
- - Speaking with the mayor of Madra
- - Activated upon receiving the Black Crystal
- - Warriors in Kibombo Mountains
- - Disabled after receiving the Black Crystal
- - "We need to help Piers" cutscene when entering Gondowan Cliffs after meeting Piers.
- - Activated upon meeting Piers in Kibombo
- - Disabled after talking to Akafubu in the Sanctum
- - Night time around Kibombo
- - Disabled after talking to Akafubu in the Sanctum
- - Gabomba's Mouth Opens
- - Opens only upon the completion of the Gabomba Puzzle (i.e. not inherent to 'day time kibombo')
- The retreat glitch can be used to do the following:
- - Access day time Kibombo early (and hence the Sanctum cutscene early)
- - Escape Kibombo early with Piers
- - After obtaining the Black Crystal, be warped to the entrance of Gabomba rather than to the Sanctum for the Sanctum cutscene
- It appears as though the flags are set in such a way so that skipping Gabomba is not possible (due to splitting the flags between the black crystal cutscene and the sanctum cutscene). But perhaps there is something that has been overlooked and that large portions of Gabomba can be skipped.
- 5. Scoop Skip
- What: There is one compulsory use of scoop in the run at the moment, that is uncovering the ladder that leads to the Gabomba Statue. There are two(three) non-compulsory uses; trial road, obtaining Salt (and obtaining Mold if you're still getting that djinn).
- What is skipped: Skipping scoop would mean fighting King Scorpion is unnecessary who is a significant time sink in the run.
- What doesn't work: The retreat glitch does not work in towns (except Shaman Village) so it cannot be used to access Gabomba early.
