A soldier trained from birth is deemed obsolete and dumped on a waste planet where he is reluctantly taken in by a community of defenseless, stranded wayfarers.
Sergeant Todd (Russell) is a veteran soldier for the an elite group of the armed forces of Earth. After being defeated by a new breed of genetically engineered soldiers, he is dumped on a waste planet and left for dead. He soon interacts with a group of crash survivors who lead out a peaceful existence on the planet. The peace is soon broken as the new breed of soldiers lands to eliminate the colony, which Sergeant Todd must defend.
Although Russell barely speaks in this movie, his expressions are unlike anything ever seen before. Great sci-fi actioner. You won&#39;t be disappointed.
Yeah, Kurt Russell has the best lines (I think he has three or four), but the movie isn&#39;t as bad as the critics are all saying.<br/><br/>Kurt plays a soldier, trained from birth, who is being replaced by the &quot;newest&quot; models. He is defeated in a ****ing contest between two of his commanding officers when he fights Jason Scott Lee, who whips him and two of his comrades severely. The officers decide to dispose of the bodies somewhere far away from where they are. They miss the fact that while the other two are dead, Kurt isn&#39;t.<br/><br/>The story progresses where Kurt is landed in a society of people who want to leave the planet they&#39;re on, but lack the means. The planet is assumed to be deserted, and has become one big trash dump. Try as they may, the people can&#39;t get the attention of the trash dumpers which they figure are automated. They are a relatively peaceful, normal society. They take Kurt in, who can&#39;t fit in well because of his upbringing.<br/><br/>I won&#39;t give away any more of the story, but this movie has a lot to say about our society using an individual and not giving him the respect he deserves when he is no longer &quot;the best&quot;. It is also a story about brains over brawn, and learning to deal with emotions. There are several scenes which are touching, buried in the over-abundance of violence associated with a movie of this genre.<br/><br/>The story slams our throw-away society. Out with the old and in with the new. Sometimes the new isn&#39;t as good as the old...<br/><br/>In some ways, I was reminded of the Rambo movies, especially the fact that Kurt couldn&#39;t fit in, but felt there was more hope.<br/><br/>I give this movie 4 of 5 stars for the Kurts portrayal of the soldier, learning how to feel, the good over evil triumph, and Connie Nielsen&#39;s beauty.

Soldier is a violent science fiction action film starring Kurt Russell as Sargeant Todd, an cold hardened space marine, whom was chosen at birth to be a soldier, whom is dumped and left to die on Arcadia 234, a garbage planet, when he is knocked unconscious in a fight with Caine 607 (Jason Scott Lee), a genetically engineered new breed of soldier. On the planet, Todd is befriend and nursed back to health by the survivors of a crashed spaceship, that have set up a colony on the planet and Todd struggles to adjust to living a normal life, due to his conditioning and training as a soldier. But, when Colonel Meckham (Jason Issacs), Caine 607 and the genetic engineered soldier&#39;s commanding officer orders Caine 607 and the genetic engineered soldiers to eliminate the crash survivors, as part of an training routine. Todd uses his combat skills and decides to protect the crash survivors and takes on the genetic engineered soldiers in a one man war. As an aside, writer/director Paul W.S. Anderson has stated that as far as he is concerned, his film Soldier is a &#39;sidequel&#39; to Blade Runner, as it occurs in the same fictional milieu as Scott&#39;s film, although it is not actually a follow-up (Soldier was co-scripted by Blade Runner screenwriter David Peoples).<br/><br/>Reference- One of the battle names tattooed on Todd&#39;s arm.
