- Alela Diane - Lady Divine: 5 why does that song name sound like the name of a drag queen i don't even rly watch drag but it does am i right
- Amy Winehouse - October Song: 6 i honestly never got the appeal of amy winehouse's music despite seeing she clearly had talent but this i kind of like. the vocals are kind of avocadies but in a (complimentary) way and the electric organ and syncopated beat all add up to make it quirky~ i can fw this
- Mario Kart Wii - Maple Treeway: 6 cute ditty but not sure what's fall about it aside from the name, and given i am from the country of maple trees (i grew up with one on my lawn lmao) that's not much of a sell to me
- Ben Gibbard - Carolina: 5 hey its the postal service guy without the bleepbloops. it's okay i guess. that line about assault was ???
- Big Star - September Gurls: 3 i know these guys are supposed to be this amazing power pop band (that isn't a real genre btw it's just rock) but i never Got them at all i tried that one album didn't care for it.
- Billy Talent - Fallen Leaves: 8 a true story is that i have a billy talent tshirt and don't know where it came from and it's old now but i still wear it sometimes i did today in fact. canada is just like that. one time i was at the bus station and a girl came up to me and said "nice shirt". also one of the bus drivers would often blast billy talent while on his route. again they're just a thing around here. not the kind of band i'd listen to on my own but when they came on muchmusic or whatever i'd be like heck yes. they're a bit corny but good songwriters ngl
- Califone - Funeral Singers: 4 this kind of Gruff acoustic stuff isn't working for me sorry even though there is something nostalgia and 2000s-core about it
- The Chicks - Not Ready To Make Nice: 0 "vayyiqra — Today at 2:03 AM i am not going to boost the chicks solely because george w bush invaded iraq i fear" now under no circumstances do we have to hand it to george w bush he should have been dragged to the international criminal court in the hague, netherlands for his barbarous actions and the chicks WERE based for telling him to get fucked but that has nothing to do with their music, which i simply, don't like. never did, not once, not ever. here i stand. god help me
- Crawlers - Would You Come To My Funeral: 6 the kind of ditty id hear on muchmusic late night in the 2000s and never hear again but it would come to mind now and then
- Drake - Make Me Proud (feat. Nicki Minaj): 4 feel like i'm letting the side down being from toronto and drake being such a meme and clowned upon and so on but i never listened to him or cared about him much at all so i have nothing clever here but i don't get how this is a fall song and have no feelings about drake. at all right now sorry beyond a vague "drake bad, overall". rly like "passionfruit" tho gr8 song
- Harry Styles - Golden: 6 feel like i didn't get this album the first time i heard it and never cared a whole lot for this guy's music sorry to that man but this is not a bad little ditty. "take me back to the light" is rly hitting in this time of year with its abominable darkness
- Hazy Sour Cherry - Autumn in the Small Town: 6 hazy sour cherry sounds like the name of a beer i'd find utterly delicious and then someone on the internet would try to shame me for being a white straight man who likes to drink IPAs to this day like a hipster and they're so bitter and hoppy gross!!! and i'd be thinking to myself well sorry amanda but i like that !!! and also the cherry cuts into the bitterness. oh yeah the song i should stop shitposting uh it's okay i don't care for the vocals rather nasally but otherwise it's fine
- Jens Lekman - Maple Leaves: 7 once again muttering to myself "[jœtɛˈbɔrj]" a very useful life skill
- Joanna Newsom - Autumn: 8 first you tell me nimz didn't send pj harvey what's next strings didn't send this ??? anyway pretty alright song but joanna always makes me feel dumb for not being utterly [redacted] for her music and loving it and frothing over how utterly sheerly genius it is (though i am not saying it's not) but i don't listen to her a lot but it is Pretty and way more autumnal than most of the music in here
- Lucinda Chua - Autumn Leaves Don't Come: 10 rly loved this album this wasn't one of my favourite tracks on it but it's such a sad heartbreaking but oddly comforting album listen to it i could say more but no time
- McCoy Tiner - Autumn Leaves: 10 rly loved jazz as a young lad and esp this guy's playing arguably the goat for jazz piano
- Meat Loaf - I'd Do Anything for Love (But I Won't Do That): 10 i know it's a meme but whatever i grew up with my parents playing meat loaf a lot and always liked his music it's kind of goofy but it's heterosexual camp
- Noah Kahan - Stick Season: 3 there is a distinct lack of stomp and clap here. i am surprised by this guy's voice i don't listen to him and thought he would have a deep voice like hozier but no. i am out of touch with the youth. some months ago i trained this girl at work and she was saying she listens to this guy while driving all the time and i had no clue who he was o wel
- Nujabes - World's End Rhapsody: 5 i am not cool enough to get this guy. i know he's beloved and feel bad because he died before his time but still i have tried to get into his music and can't, it is what it is. sorry to that man
- Panopticon - Autumn Eternal: 1 i am confirmed a weakling and not metalhead but i am not in the mood to hear some guy gurgle at me for seven minutes, not that i ever am
- Patsy Cline - Walkin' After Midnight: 5 me when i go on r/nightwalk (i do not do that often) me when i watch nightwalk videos in tokyo late at night (i do that often)
- Pearl Brothers - Yokoso! Hitoribocchi: 6 wish i had time to translate this or better yet knew japanese but it's alright
- Phillip B. Price - Holding Onto Light: 6 it's really not a bad tune but i keep thinking how much more i want to hear broken bells - holding on for life great song 11worthy
- PJ Harvey - Let England Shake: 7 it's kind of tune but not at all what i think of pj harvey sounding like (granted i mostly only know her early work and even then she's always been more of an "artist i like the idea of liking" than one i listen to often) but it's a solid ditty
- Post Malone - Circles: 7 this guy being a big deal never made lots of sense to me wasn't my thing but this is a good song i like the washed-out sound
- Quelle Chris & Chris Keys - Sudden Death: 3 sorry i am confused this seems like this very 2000s kind of neo-psychedelia but it's being called hiphop and neo-soul elsewhere so what is the truth. anyway i don't think i get this, it's disorienting and making my head spin. i kind of like the piano tho
- Sea Wolf - Leaves in the River: 5 a cute little story but not my vibe
- Silversun Pickups - Lazy Eye: 4 this is exactly the kind of indie shit that my friend group would've been heavy into back in 2005 or something but i never really liked it sorry a bit nostalgic anyway though
- The Sonora Pine - Linda Jo: 2 in the pines in the pines where the sun don't ever shine idk im out of ideas here. sorry i find this rly meandering and frankly boring and maybe i'm just a tired cranky baby but this is doing nothing for me. i'm sure someone out there finds it utterly beautiful and i love that for you whoever you are
- Taylor Swift - august: 6 i'm so sorry bogo but august is a summer month and a long hot hazy one at that and september is, i will die on the hill of, also a summer month since it's also very warm here and hazy. the song itself is fine so i won't be harsh but still
- Twine - My God: 2 "אלהי אלהי למה שבקתני" - me when i have to listen to this song i don't enjoy while i ponder my bleak and meaningless empty life two beers deep at 02:33 in the morning. sorry i am doing my best here but my best isn't good enough ...
- Type O Negative - Wolf Moon: 5 i'm not goth enough for this i fear. i had a girlfriend who liked this band and she had a goth phase. before meeting me i mean. i have never liked a song by this band. it's just not my vibe. something werewolves idk. it's not even bad it's just not my vibe you get me. why not echo & the bunnymen - the killing moon as heard in the film *donnie darko*. same kind of vibe but way more upbeat
- Xun Zhou - Autumn: 11 this might be confusing but her name is zhou xun and zhou is her family name (many asian languages have the opposite order of western names). anyway this album, 偶遇 (*ŏuyù*, chance meeting). it's like adult contemporary pop with bossa nova and ambient characteristics for chinese music enthusiasts. zhou xun is ironically a very well known actress in china like scarjo level of famous and is besties with faye wong perhaps the most towering and icon c-pop singer (and also well-known actress) still living but zhou xun's music career was rly short, a couple of albums in the 2000sish era, produced by this guy from the cult chinese rock duo radio mars, rly good producer. this album got a following on RYM among nerds there which is how i found it and i'm not even mad, it's a great album. the lyrics to this song i meant to post over and over but never did but anyway they have to do with a cute little anecdote of a couple watching tv together and autumn cosy vibes and the moonlight in the window (she has a lot of lyrics on this album with such vibes of nighttime and domesticity) and that's why there's that part in the middle which sounds like a conversation on TV which i have never been able to translate myself. anyway rly like her voice too it's not powerful but it's unique and sounds warm and familiar somehow. love this ditty and i am 11ing my own song fuck it this album was one of my favourite finds of 2023 listened to it like 100 times and did a whole episode of my radio show on her music so
- Yo La Tengo - Our Way To Fall: 6 these guys were something that was always on my radar but i wasn't cool and hipster enough to check out but the brushes on the drums kind of sold me on it vaguely jazz-adjacent
