- Porter gave the silo an almighty shove.
- It bounded down the ramp, propelled by the evacuating atmosphere, tumbling out into frigid space.
- Avar reached for the door controls, but the drag of the escaping air seemed to sweep her feet from under her, and suddenly she was overbalancing. She felt herself falling, yanked backward by the pull of the void, dragged in the wake of the tumbling bomb toward the other ship.
- Her lungs were hurting. She wanted to scream. She reached for the Force, but her mind was clouded with desperation and panic.
- She twisted in the air, throwing her hands out.
- She was only a few meters from the void of space.
- And then the door slammed shut, and she struck the ground of the cargo hold, her shoulder slamming hard against the metal grille. She rolled, dragging herself to her feet. Porter stood by the door controls.
- But there was no time to thank him. He was already at the portside viewport, his arm reaching out as he communed with the Force, trying to nudge the path of the tumbling silo toward the other ship’s air lock.
- Avar hurried to his side.
- Around them, the ship was trembling violently, buckling under the strain of Belin’s maneuvering and the barrage of laser cannon shots that were hammering its paltry shields.
- The silo was sliding wide. It was going to miss its target.
- Avar raised her left arm, joining Porter, calling on the song. It swelled, filling her ears, her mind, her heart. Still broken, still unsyncopated.
- The silo shifted its course, glinting in the starlight, almost beautiful as it described a graceful arc toward the Cacophony. It struck the air lock.
- And bloomed.
- A sudden, massive, silent detonation that caused the Cacophony to judder, venting air as the fire billowed and flashed out, leaving behind a mangled hole circled in twisted metal teeth. The whole thing had taken only seconds.
