- I saw an extended presentation of the same areas as in the 7 minute gameplay video at GamesCom this weekend (About twice as long, played by one of the staff in real-time), and wow. It showed so much more.
- In the beginning of the level at the poster when Ellie makes a mark about it (0:50), the guy playing interacted with it which initiated a small conversation about it.
- He then continued inside the building, but where the released video showed a ladder (2:13), there was none this time, and instead, Joel and Ellie was walking around looking for stuff to use.
- Joel then noticed a ladder lying a little too high (Up on the wall opposite of where the ladder is attached in this video with that yellow triangular sign (2:10)), and they started searching for something to get it. Joel then found a table with wheels (Like those metal waitress tables. It can be seen between the two large red pillars in the background at 2:00), pushed it close to the wall, then gave Ellie a boost so she could get up and push it down.
- She did so, and Joel picked it up, and brought it to where it was in the gameplay video.
- They then got out on the roof where these guys talk (3:22).
- But instead of going in and start a war immediately with the guys inside, the guy playing went stealthy instead, threw a bottle through the left of the two windows (3:18) with the guys talking. One of the guys heard it and went in to check, and Joel jumped in through the right window and sneaked up on the guy who had gone into the room on the left. He finds a gun somewhere, and gets to the guy (The guy he blows the head off in the released video, from what I could see), grabs him from behind and holds the gun to his head, then says: "Not a fucking word.". He drags him into another room then chokes him.
- They then sneaked into the room they run into at 4:30, still not spotted, and picked up a pipe that lied behind the bed you see at 4:30.
- He and Ellie then found a hole in the ceiling somewhere, in which they climbed up, and as they were about to go around a corner, a new group of guys (Or the rest of the old?) were looking inside all the rooms.
- Joel and Ellie went out through a window, and in through another, and one of the guys had walked into the room adjacent to the room they had just jumped into.
- Joel then picked up a bottle, through it through the door, hitting the guy who were then startled. And in the same move Joel took the pipe and started beating the guy helplessly to the ground.
- At some point he also find a revolver like in the gameplay video, and a guy walks into the room not knowing that Joel and Ellie are in there. Joel then pulls out the revolver, and the guy that walked in, almost trips over himself trying to get back out as he sees the gun.
- Another thing that impressed me is how the characters will say stuff based on the situation and your actions.
- For example, Joel starts chasing the guy that just fled the room when he spotted the gun and loses sight of him, and Joel then says "Where did you go, you son of a bitch!", or something like that.
- Joel then notices the guy in some hall who jumps behind a corner when he sees that Joel is still on his tail. (The guy also has a gun. Don't remember if he had it the whole time or just found it).
- Joel pulls out the revolver again, getting ready to fire, when the guy hiding, jumps out and throws a bottle right at Joel, who jumps out of the way. It turns out it was a molotov. This gave the guy a chance to escape into another room.
- Joel follows and as he gets in, the guy jumps out a window, and Joel starts firing through the window to hit the guy. Suddenly Joel is attacked from behind, by a guy who hits him and starts beating him. The attacker then gets Joel into a choke hold (That's right, the player is now in a choke hold). The guy keeping Joel in a choke hold then yells to the guy that was outside the window: "Shoot him, damnit! SHOOT HIM!". Joel struggles moving around the room, and gets free of the hold.
- Somehow he gets them both killed (Exactly how I do not remember).
- The demo ends with Joel and Ellis jumping down into an elevator shaft, onto an elevator, and as Ellis gets back off, the elevator drops and Joel falls down into some water. Ellis asks if Joel is okay, and he answers: "I'm fine.". Ellis then says: "I'll try to get down.", and Joel replies "No! Don't! Stay there.".
- He then turns on a flash light, and starts swimming through the water, and the demo ends.
- I was positively surprised at how smooth all the animations are, and how well the dialog fits and is initiated based on the situation.
- The PlayStation clearly had trouble running the game, but the motion blur tricks the brain into thinking it's smooth.
- But it was nice seeing it close up on like a 50" screen.
- Graphically, it looked absolutely fantastic, considering the hardware is so old.
- This game pushes the PlayStation 3 to its absolute limit, and is sure to bring great adventure with lots of replay value to millions of players.
- My only complaint is that this wasn't made for the PC instead.
