  1. Here's the hierarchies of Angelic Beings, thus far:
  2. 1st Sphere – Seraphim, Cheribum and Thrones
  3. 2nd Sphere – Dominions, Virtues and Powers
  4. 3rd Sphere – Principalities, Archangels and Angels.

  8. An olden English scholar/religious philosopher, formerly anonymous, now labeled as "Dionysus," proposed that just as how Dante Alighieri instated in his magnum opus, "Inferno," that there are hierarchical sects of hell, in descending order, there are also sects for the heavenly host.

  10. In regards to the doctrine(s) of the New Testament, Michael leads God's armies against Satan's forces in the Book of Revelation. During the war in the heavens, he, himself, defeats Satan. To put this in a metaphorical example, think of a Battalion Commander leading his detachment of the regiment in an Army (pick any Army of a country, Prussian-influenced). While the figurehead of the battalion is not quite the Five-Star General, he is chosen by his Commanding Officer as the leader of the bunch, and is recognized as such by leading them into battle.

  12. In relation to this, St. Michael was first seen as a healing angel. He was but a mere Sergeant/medic, exemplary to today's military. Over time he was promoted, per-se, over time, as a protector and the leader of the army of God against the forces of evil. Looking back at the diagram of the heavenly host, St. Michael is, in a metaphorical sense, the wielder of the highest Angelic title due to his actions of valor, among all angels, by his military title. In accordance to the First Epistle of the Thessalonians, St. Michael is also deemed as the archangel who heralds the second coming of Christ, while not directly named. The levels of importance indoctrinated unto one angel is that comparative to the highest military award/position, the "Medal of Honor." Even the highest commanding officers of the United States' Military have to render a salute to those wielding such military title.
