- Excerpts from Crimson Mud detailing the injured Pit Scorpion in 07, as described in Crimson Mud ( Full text here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Y4tRW3ZzJWSbxk-XShZYhencDWPd7a5a/view?usp=sharing ):
- Still dripping in digestive juices and with
- some of its legs apparently broken by impact, the thing's body speaks of some kind of arachnid
- superpredator with long and highly arched legs and massive scythe-like claws.
- [...]
- there's a loud screeching, crashing noise as the pit scorpion
- effortlessly slices open the doorway with its claws as though it were paper, sending the glass, metal and
- concrete of the doorway crashing down in a deafening crash as it clears its path. Before the dust has
- even cleared the creature has started to move through the rubble and it appears to be visibly dragging
- [...]
- itself with an awkward limp, its broken limbs twitching as it hisses softly in pain and a trail of greenish-
- white blood trails behind it and leaks from the broken joints.
- [...]
- Thunderous crashes resound from the parking
- garage as the pit scorpion begins scything its way through cars as though they were made of
- cardboard, searching for tender prey hidden among protective shells.
- [...]
- The beast is huge and hunched over as it
- advances, barely able to hold itself up as it seems to wobble unsteadily, it appears to have lost another
- of its legs that now ends in a ragged wound leaving it with only half its normal number and more of its
- greenish white blood appears to be leaking from a handful of gunshot wounds in its torso, as well as
- one of its claws badly maimed and the hinge broken presumably by shotgun blasts. Every few steps it
- lets out a loud pained shrieking sound and as it approaches one of the fatally burned people laying on
- the path screaming it pauses and lifts its head up high to howl mournfully at the sky with a sound
- almost like screeching metal and then in one quick move bisects the man directly in front of it across
- his chest with a quick snip of its massive claw.
- Joe and Neveah avert their eyes but not quick enough to miss the man coming apart like a paper doll
- attacked with a sharp pair of scissors. Both stand stunned, still and silent in the darkness as they can't
- help but turn their eyes back to the pit scorpion. Moving like some grim executioner from one mortally
- wounded park-goer to the next, painting its claw and the park pathways in a vivid panoply of colors
- from the mixture of digested remnants, digestive juices, mud and gore as it ends each of them with a
- single confident chop of its remaining working claw. It moves through the lights with a predatory
- confidence despite its apparent injuries and pain and both Joseph and Neveah are able to make out
- more details of it as they watch. Its leather-colored exoskeleton is covered in some kind of mottling
- barely visible through the streaked digestive slime being gradually washed away by both the rain and
- blood spray. It lacks any apparent eyes, its carapace covered from mouth to tail in what appear to be
- some kind of softly glowing red and yellow spots.
- [...]
- The pit scorpion stops briefly in its path down the trail near Joseph and Neveah, pausing as its feelers
- move through the air just a few feet from them like the probing hands of a blind man
- [...]
- the pit scorpion's attention is grabbed by the
- groan of pain from a burnt victim laying on the path some distance away and it limps its way over
- toward the target, it's tail swinging threateningly overhead.
- Joe and Neveah watch as the creature's tail swings down like a sword stroke and takes the wounded
- man's head off his shoulders with ease in a fountain of blood and then it continues on down the path,
- now moving away from them to take out its pain on the wounded elsewhere.
