20XX Sapphire Shopping

NOTE ON EXP:

In recent months the desert candy has been useful in running Sapphire because it gives L30 for Norman’s Vigoroth, allowing any runnable attack to OHKO it at +6. This requires 189 extra experience over standard Granite Cave experience.

However, this is not the only way to OHKO, and depending on your stats, this may influence the number of X Attacks to buy in Fallarbor. In general:

- If 20-29IV~/3-12IV+atk, always get the 189 extra xp so that you can get L28 for Machop. This guarantees the MS OHKO on Machop and the +6 MS OHKO on Vigoroth.

- If 30-31IV~/13+IV+atk, you may omit the candy xp. Still collect desert candy, but don’t use it until after Admin Shelly (L31 -> L32 for May 3’s Grovyle). You are still guaranteed to OHKO Vigoroth on +6, but not the Machop (30IV~ = 50%, 31IV~/13-19IV+ = 75%, 20-26IV+ = 87.50%), so you may WGx2 or risk the range.

	> If 20+IV+atk, you are guaranteed to OHKO Vigoroth at +5 if you candy early.

	> If 27+IV+ atk, you are guaranteed to OHKO Machop if you don’t candy.

The shopping variations below depend on a few things: number of extra Repels to buy in Slateport (+1 if used one in cave, +1 if early flyer), Escape Rope count (whether you used it in the cave), and whether the kip requires +5 or +6 to OHKO Vigoroth depending on its xp and atk stat. This is an attempt to account for the unlikely, but ideal, situation in which the runner has both an early flyer and gets a fast Abra+evolution with minimal extraneous encounters.

It’s also worth noting that the same speed restrictions apply to L29 on Vigoroth as to Archie’s Sharpedo; 19-20IV~/8-9IV+ must get Carbos to outspeed at +1.

* As a rule, Stardust can be collected to increase flexibility in shopping, but this shopping route eliminates it.
