A gloomy, expansive study

From across the door, flames spit and crackle softly within a stone hearth, sending faint shadows dancing languidly over the chiseled stone walls. Covering a large expanse of the cold, granite floor is an enormous rug, woven to depict a scene of a spiraling descent into a fiery pit. Resting upon the rug, in the middle of the room and just before the hearth, is a high-backed chair and rectangular table crowded with books, scrolls, and various charting tools, along with a plate of half-eaten food and a near empty decanter. Behind the table, sitting upon the mantle, are a ship in a bottle and a bejeweled dirk. Rising up the walls to the right are large, wooden bookcases, filled to overflowing with a small table and a couple of chairs sitting between them. Set within the left portion of the room is a bed which has been positioned against the wall, a rectangular oaken trunk standing guard at the foot of the bed. Situated in the corner across from the bed is a small table with green felt, strange symbols carved into the surface, next to which stands a weapons rack and a worn armour stand.
