  1. “B-but Lucky, I'm so hungry, I can't stand it!”
  2. “My stomach hurts so bad already, though...”
  3. “Just...just one more, one more, I swear......”
  4. “I don't think we'd get that fat after just one more......”
  5. “I want to eat more, too!” Lucky yelled, in his rough baritone. “But I want to spend what's left of my life as a star – even if it means starving to death! I want to be cool until the bitter end......!”
  6. “Uhh...well, excuse me, but... I think you'll all be alright,” Jeff interjected. “Would you mind trying this on for me? It should suppress any weird cravings you have for food or drink.” He tied a black, glossy thing that looked like a string around Lucky's arm, first.
  7. “Huh? …...Oh, you weren't kidding! For some reason, I'm not hungry at all anymore!”
  8. “Isn't it great?” Jeff smiled. “It's a Magic Bracelet.”
  9. “Whoa, gimme one, too!”
  10. “Me too!”
  11. “Gimme, gimme!”
  12. “Please don't forget to give me one, too.”
  13. One by one they were all given the black strings, and soon, as if they'd suddenly sobered up, they were hale and hearty once more. That strange desire to keep eating had vanished into thin air, and they were feeling just fine.
  14. “Thanks, man......we'll never forget what you did for us, Preppy.” Lucky's black bracelet flashed in the light as he offered Jeff a handshake. A “preppy” is, generally speaking, a student of a classy school. Or something like a young executive. “We have a gig tonight at the Topolla Theater, you should come check it out!”
  15. With lively hand gestures, dancing as they went, the Runaway Five took their leave. Ness and Paula, who had been staring in awe at Jeff for some time now, questioned him excitedly.
  16. “That was incredible, what were those things?!”
  17. “Some kind of powerful digestive aid device?”
  18. “Yes and no,” Jeff smirked. “They were left over scraps of electrical cords.”
  19. “Electrical cords?”
  20. “It's the placebo effect – like when someone believes that the water they're drinking is medicine, and so it works. Those guys already thought it was strange that they didn't feel full after eating so much. And as entertainers, they really didn't want to end up so out of shape that they couldn't perform. And so, the suggestion of the electrical cords worked for them.”
