A squadron of giant robot pilots of a beleaguered Earth colony bring the war to their oppressive home planet.
In the year After Colony 195, Earth is surrounded by orbiting space colonies. The colonists are cruelly oppressed by the Earth Sphere Alliance, which uses huge humanoid fighting machines called "Mobile Suits" to control the populace. Behind this tyranny is the secret society called "Oz," which has infiltrated the Alliance military and steered it towards its repressive course. Now, the space colonies are ready to strike back. Five young pilots, equipped with advanced mobile suits called "Gundams," are sent to Earth to wage guerilla war against Oz and its Alliance puppets. The war to decide humanity's destiny begins...
No, I haven't seen the Evangelion or Macross series' yet, but rest assured, this is some unbelievably fun anime!  I've seen the Chars Counterattack series and while the plot in them was great, I prefer the more modern style of anime with the hard-lined characters to the soft-and-squishy looking drawings.  The dubbed voices are well done, as are the subbed videos, and the music will make you wish you could pilot your own 200 ton mech!  Best of all is the story line, which in-and-of itself would be worth reading about in the comics.  Double-crossing, character evolution, unexpected twists...this series has it all, and well timed I might add.  The only complaint with this series is the use of "rehashed" scenes.  I don't know how many times I saw the Gundam Heavy Arms raise his left gatling arm and fire at incoming enemies, but it was too many.  Rest assured though, if you need even a small bit of convincing as to whether you should watch this series all the way through or not, get ahold of episode 41...I promise you'll have chills at the end of the show.
I have just recently purchased collection one of this awesome series and even after just watching three episodes, I still am mesmerized by sleek styling of the animation and the slow, yet thoughtful actions of the story-telling. I am still a fan.....with some minor pains.<br/><br/>Though this installment into the Gundam saga is very cool and has what the previous series had-a stylish satiric way of telling about the wrongs of war and not letting go of the need to have control or power over everything(sound familiar?), I have to say that this one gets a bit too mellow-dramatic on continuing to explain the lives of the main characters and their incessant need to belly-ache about every thing that happens and what they need to do to stop the OZ group from succeeding in their plans(especially the character called Wufei...I mean he whines more than an American character on a soap opera. Get a counselor,will ya?)<br/><br/>Besides for the over-exaggerated drama(I think that mostly comes from the dubbing of the English voice actors), this series is still very exciting and will still captivate me once again. I mean it can always be worse. It could be like the recent installment, SEED......eeeewwww, talk about mellow-dramatic....I&#39;ll chat about that one later.
