  1. Hey all,
  2.
  3. Some sad news, and I'd like to apologize first, but after over a year in operation, Centurion may be closing down. Before you write this off as just another abdication of responsibility or furry drama, I'd encourage you to read this notice in full. Centurion *MIGHT* be closing down, but it might not be as well. Here's exactly what's happening:
  4.
  5. June 15th will be the final time that I renew the tier for Centurion.
  6.
  7. **What does that mean?**
  8. I pay tier for FPI, which costs about $230 USD, on the first of every month, which buys us an additional month. June 1st will be the last time I pay it, which means with the additional safety buffer, unless someone else pays, the region will be closed on or shortly after [DATE.]
  9. Similarly, I pay tier for Sentinel Point on the 15th of every month, which costs about $110 USD for the same amount of time. If nobody pays, it too will close down on or after [DATE].
  10.
  11. If nobody intervenes, I will close down the donation ATM, inform the Land Operator that we intend not to renew, and part ways with the SL groups.
  12.
  13. **I pay rent on Sentinel Point! What the hell?**
  14. Don't worry, I'm refunding rent payments, including tips and advances, for March, and will not be expecting any rental obligations for April, May, or June.
  15.
  16. **But why?**
  17. This is going to be pretty heavy. You might want to skip over this section, but I do owe an explanation. The short answer is for my mental health.
  18.
  19. The long answer is a bit more complicated. I founded FPI in February of 2019 as a public service for folks that can't afford a region or land baron rental prices, and it was deeply rewarding just to be able to do that. A lot has happened since then, and despite no real heartache coming from SL directly, I don't really get any joy out of it, or out of any constructive or outreach project I do anymore. In September, I was involved in an interpersonal dispute that has left me mostly estranged to my closest friends. Due to the pandemic, I am now working 10 hours a day, 7 days a week, if in a limited capacity, and am on call 24/7. My parents abdicating their responsibilities has left me having to care mostly alone for a 94 year old woman with mostly non-verbal dementia. My therapist closed their practice a few months ago, and the alternatives are either in-affordable or on a very long wait list. I'm very, very not well.
  20.
  21. On April 6th, I began writing a suicide note. I didn't finish it, but I decided at that point I needed to make drastic changes to my life. I have someone that loves me very much and that I plan on spending the rest of my life with, people that care about me, and people that critically depend upon me, and I cannot let a computer and an LCD screen dictate my happiness. At the advice of my therapist, before he ceased his practice, I will be distancing myself from the computer and trying to recenter myself in the real world.
  22.
  23. **So what now?**
  24. That's up to everyone else. If the rental boxes get paid, the rental boxes get paid. Here's some suggestions:
  25.
  26. If someone I trust would like to step up and wishes to take the helm as the primary renter for the region, please let me know. Understand I will not turn over the regions to just anyone, only people that I know and trust to be responsible with them. Being the primary renter doesn't mean you have to pay it yourself - you can take over rent collection for Sentinel Point, donations for FPI, or whatever else you feel is helpful or necessary to keep the regions alive. They will become yours, and you can do as you please with them, the land rental agreement grants basically all rights of region ownership.
  27.
  28. If nobody wants to take over, I plan on departing my administrative position and vacating my plot on FPI. I will inform the Land Operator to remove me from the Region Manager accesses for the regions, but so long as the boxes get paid on time, I believe the regions will persist in my absence. You may wish to speak with her (Lorena Chung) directly if you want more details on how that would work.
  29.
  30. **This isn't fair!**
  31. It's really not. Trust me, I know just how life can get when things don't go the way they're supposed to. I'm sorry. I kept this going even after my mental health began to deteriorate in September, hoping my situation would improve, but it did not. We lasted a long time, and we've made a lot of great memories. This may be goodbye for me, but there's still a hope that this isn't goodbye for Centurion.
  32.
  33. Thank you for reading.
