  1.
  2. "My lady, allow me to show you a most magnificent trick!" Last Actor called, causing the Duchess Fair to turn from her gazing-spot at the window.
  3.
  4. "Oh, so you have more than pretty music and silver words?" She asked.
  5.
  6. "Of course, my lady," Last Actor bowed his head politely. "I am a man of many, many talents~ As any bard should be. Now, watch!"
  7.
  8. From his shirt, he retrieved a pendant he had taken from her boudoir; one he had recognized from the paintings in the hall as belonging to another. He winked as he slipped it over his head, twirling on his heel as his face changed.
  9.
  10. Shining blue eyes, skin dark and warm like a perfect summer day, and soft, black curls of hair faced the Duchess. Even the coy and playful smile was a dead ringer for the late duke.
  11.
  12. "Tada~ So, my lady, does this warm your-" Last Actor began, but noticed the look on her face.
  13.
  14. Her eyes were dark, her knuckles white as they gripped her skirts as she stood up. Her mouth was a grim line of shock, and her every movement was staggered as she approached him.
  15.
  16. "M-My Lady, please don't be scared. I know you miss your husband, so I onl-" Was all he could murmur before she slapped him.
  17.
  18. "DON'T YOU -DARE- TAKE HIS FACE," She yelped, tears rolling down her face, hot and angry. "Don't you ever try to be that snake-tongued, skirt-chasing, smug bastard! That's the face that already broke my heart once, and I won't have it be done again!"
  19.
  20. Last Actor was speechless. Obediantly, he removed the pendant, backing away from her.
  21.
  22. He had wanted to stir a flurry of emotion in her, amd now that he had, he regretted it dearly.
