  1. Eldegoss
  2.
  3. Hey everyone! It's Foo here, very excited to talk to you about the recent Sword and Shield news and a particularly awesome Pokemon, and here with me and just as excited is John
  4.
  5. >John says hi
  6.
  7. Today we'll be considering Eldegoss, a Pokemon that I have already fallen in love with for a number of reasons, which we'll go into in this video, and if you're not already hyped for this floofy grandma, you will be after watching. But we've also got a treat over on John's channel too, right John?
  8.
  9. >John says what his video is
  10.
  11. If you enjoy this video, please consider leaving a like as it lets me know what you want to see more of and at the same time helps my channel grow, but no problem if not.
  12.
  13. So Eldegoss, first we'll talk about what we know, then we'll talk about what we're hoping to see from this lil dude.
  14.
  15. And let's start with first impressions of the design:
  16. I LOVE it, perfect mix of cool but goofy, with that massive floofball head, and the cute pixie face. Kinda looks like a grandma with a mass of white spherical hair. It's right up my street. It obviously takes inspiration from dandelions and cotton. What do you think John?
  17.
  18. >John says what he thinks
  19.
  20. We also know that Eldegoss evolves from Gossifleur, which imo is another beautiful design. I've heard a lot of people say they prefer the colour palette of Gossifleur and, while it is undeniably beautiful and a really solid mon design, I really like the storyling of the evos going from a beautiful flower to an equally valid older-looking Eldegoss who has lost some of its beauty, but has gained experience and power. Need more representation for our elders! (And I'm not saying that just cos I'm kinda old too lol)
  21.
  22. >John: We've also been given some flavour text in the direct and on the website:
  23. "Its cotton fluff protects it from enemies"
  24. "Seeds are said to promote growth in plants and can revitalise both people and pokemon"
  25. >sounds like it will be pretty defensive and have healing moves for it and its allies
  26.
  27. >Sam: Eldegoss is obviously a grass type with no secondary typing - can be pretty good considering how good comparable Pokemon like Tangrowth are defensively, however having only one typing that receives STAB means it may not be as strong as it could have been offensively, though with the flavour text this might not matter too much
  28.
  29. >John: We also know its abilities - Cotton Down and Regenerator, both sound like interesting options
  30. >John: Cotton Down is a new ability that will likely be Eldegoss's signature ability. We have a description from the website, "When a Pokémon with this Ability is hit by an attack, it will send out cotton fluff that will lower the Speed stat of other Pokémon", Sounds very similar to Tangling Hair and Gooey, but the opposing Pokemon may not need to make contact to trigger this, it may also work with special attacks. it also says that it "will lower the speed of other Pokemon", which could imply that it will lower the speed of multiple pokemon in doubles.
  31. >Sam: Having Regenerator as a second ability is really promising. This ability is fantastic for bulky Pokemon, allowing them to switch into attacks with little risk, and taking the pressure off them having to waste turns to recover health. We already see it used well by Tangrowth and Amoonguss, which is promising for this Pokemon, but also demonstrates that it will have competition with other grass type Pokemon for a place on your team.
  32.
  33. >Sam: We have one more tidbit of info, we know Eldegoss has 58HP at level 20, which puts its base HP stat at around 60. This is not very high, especially compared to other bulky grass type Pokemon. To compensate for this, Eldegoss will need high defensive stats or else it will be frail.
  34.
  35. >John: so now lets move onto what we don't know, but what we want (using the flavour information we have for informed guesses). And a good place to start is guessing stats.
  36.
  37. HP: 60
  38. Atk: 50
  39. Def: 100
  40. SpA: 85
  41. SpD: 110
  42. Spe: 75
  43.
  44. This spread is because it will likely have high defenses due to the cotton offering protection from enemies. They also mitigate the lower HP stat we already know about. Low attack seems likely without limbs or a way to rush at the opponent, meaning its SpA will likely be higher, This also matches its wise appearance. Its speed stat could be very low if it relies on the wind to carry it, or it could be high if winds are fast in the region. 90 would be a decent middling stat to allow you to make of it what you will.
  45.
  46. These stats mean it could switch in to attacks and out again, regenning health with regerator. Low HP but high defenses is better for Leech Seed as you recover a greater proportion of your health each turn.
  47.
  48. >Sam: Aside from stats, What will likely make or break this Pokemon are the moves that it can learn. And in my opinion the number one move that could be huuuuuge would be Spore. This Pokemon could be an incredible utility Pokemon, but having SPore would be invaluable - it has cotton down to spread spores and it doesn't look to slow either, however Spore is saved for mushroom Pokemon currently so it remains to be seen whether it will get it. Sleep Powder and Stun Spore seem more likely, which would be great as a utility Pokemon. The aforementioned Leech Seed would also help it keep healthy and chip away at opponents' health. U-Turn would be invaluable to keep momentum and get regenerator working. Likely it would get Cotton Spore and Guard, though not too helpful. Offensively hard to predict, but grass moves like Giga and Energy Ball likey. Would be cool to see Pollen Puff. Then there are the cleric moves - with its rejuvenative seeds, these seem quite likely. Healing in SYnthesis, status with Aromatherapy. But Wish would be massive - Wish + regen is very strong with Alo and Audino, and I would love to see Eldegoss get this combo too. The final thing I would mention here to set it apart from the other grass regenners is set up - CM or Nasty Plot, maybe even Quiver? get some boosts and a KO, then swithc out later to set up again when you need to
  49.
  50. >John putting all these things together, Eldegoss could be a pretty cool pivot Pokemon with utility and cleric options, though it has stiff competition for some really great grass types already. A speedy set with Spore and U-Turn, or a regenning cleric are really the standout possibilities here
  51.
  52. >Sam I already love it though and I really can't wait to get my hand on it! What do you guys think? Let us know in the comments below! Give a thumbs up if you enjoyed, but no problem if not. And now definitely check out John's vid where we will be discussing...
  53. All that's left to be said....
