  1. Before i tell you how my life went to shit, lets start with the basics.
  2. Since before history began, there have been these people called the 'Gifted', and around a quarter of the population falls
  3. into this elite group of beings who, because of mad luck mixed with a little bit of genetics get treated like gods.
  4. The rest of us, we're called 'Normals'. Each of the 'Gifted' have abilities, these abilities can be as mundane as being able to increase the temperature of the room you're in by 2 degrees, to being
  5. able to control minds or any other completely overpowered superpower you can think of.
  6.
  7. The rule of thumb is, if you're not Gifted then you're not anything. If you're not born with this rare genetic mutation which you have absolutely no
  8. control over then you're worthless to society right? Anyway you probably didn't come here to listen to me rant about the injustices of society. You want
  9. to know how I managed to become one of the worlds most wanted criminals overnight don't you?
  10.
  11. It started on my 18th Birthday, on your 18th birthday you get enlisted on 'The Trials' Programme, which is basically a bunch of trials that test each
  12. candidate for the most common Gifts, alongside a few trials which test for the most valuable gifts. If you are gifted then around 95% of the time, you find
  13. out during these trials. Everyone had been excited for this day for me, which is ironic because i was dreading today, no-one in my family had the mutation
  14. so why would i? It just wouldn't make sense.
  15. "136" ... "Number 136 You're up next, go to the prep room to get ready" Growled the man behind the desk, holding a speakerphone. I slowly stood up and paced towards the prep room, imagining the least painful way i could
  16. break the news to the family, knowing that right now they will all be gathered in the living room eagerly looking out the window. As I walked into the prep room I started to panic, Why am I panicking? I already know the outcome?
  17. I shouldn't be nervous right now. It felt like I had just been kicked in the Stomach and I was about to vomit everywhere. "Hello, Welcome to the Trials 136, You must be so Excited!" Blurted out a Young woman, clearly here to greet me.
  18. I jumped back, Startled by the Loud introduction and replied hesitantly "Yeah" I knew that was a lie, I just wanted this over and done with so I could go home and Curl up into a nice book, a Good Movie or anything that involved me
  19. getting away from here. "I'm Ashley, I'll be here to help you through your trials today!" ... "Please, let me know if you have any questions." she droned on explaining in detail how each trial would work and explained in detail
  20. what to do in case of a fire or injury 'Yeah I'll need to know this when I blow up the entire building with my power to set off nuclear bombs at my fingertips' I thought to myself sarcastically. I Smirked as the thought
  21. at the thought of the building getting destroyed. "How long will this take?" I interrupted, disconcertingly she replied "Uh.. It Depends, If you have a gift and we find it quickly then it wont take long, If you don't have a gift
  22. the trials can take up to 2 to 3 hours." TWO to THREE Hours? i thought to my self enraged "Alright" I grunted with pure resentment. The woman hurried out of the room, and i took a seat. After what felt for forever she came back and Blurted out
  23. "They are ready for you now" I scoffed and thought to myself, I didn't know I was going for a Dentist appointment. Three hours and a Million Trials later, I left knowing for certain now that I didn't have a Gift it was kind
  24. of Relieving you know, at least now my family will believe me when I say i don't have a Gift and as much as it may disappoint them, they will get over it.
  25.
  26. The next day at high school was the weirdest, Usually I would be the kid at the back of the class who would just blend in you know, the one you cant remember the name of who you never seem to see anywhere except the classes you're in
  27. but today instead of being pushed around and treated like crap, today I was treated almost like a Gifted. People who I didn't know would come up to me and start talking to me, It was weird. I didn't like it. It was clear they only
  28. wanted to know how my trials went, and if I was gifted or not, But that wasn't even the weirdest part. The weirdest part was when one of the gifted came up and talked to me. Now under any other circumstance this wasn't even in the question
  29. they would hardly look in the same direction as a normal, never mind talk to them, even if they had just had their trials. However he came up to me. "Hey, you're the one who just did their trials aren't you?" He stammered.
  30. "Yeah, that's me." I mumbled back looking to the ground as if I wasn't good enough to look at him in the eyes. "I'm Jack, I'm one of the gifted" He Bragged as if I didn't know who he was. "You're probably wondering how they went. Well
  31. don't get your hopes up because I'm not a gifted"
  32. "Ahhh well, shame. We could of used a new face in the group." He replied, while grabbing my shoulder. Little did I know at the time that this simple shoulder grab would be the cause of so much misery and pain. Jack walked off back to his
  33. gang of gifted people. Jack was the most level headed of the Gifted, a People person which is probably why he was the one who came up to me, Although his gift was pretty mediocre and in all reality, useless he was still gifted so
  34. he was better than us. To be more specific his 'Gift' was the ability to change the colour of anything he touched, nothing more than a neat party trick; Unless he wanted to become an interior decorator.
  35. After the first few hours, the day carried on as normal with me starting to blend back in to my surroundings by now everyone had heard that I failed the trials and I was happy with this. I didn't want to stand out.
  36.
  37. The next few days were pretty normal, School, Home, Bed, rinse and repeat. The same Dull moments happening over and over again. After the weekend, went back into school except this time i noticed something strange
  38. Jack, the superhero who can save you from a badly decorated house was by himself at his locker, This may seem normal if you don't come from a mixed school, some times people want to be alone yeah? I know I sure do. However in this school
  39. it was very strange, the 'Gifted' would always band together, never to be seen apart. A bit like a herd of sheep. Since him being alone was just about the strangest thing to me, I decided to best that by going up and talking to him
  40. I know, I'm crazy right? "This moment should will go down in history" I Joked, he replied with a startled "Huh?"
  41. "You're not with your band of Superior overlords" I continued. His face dropped, I could tell instantly that something was wrong "Yeah.. well"
  42. "Don't tell me they kicked you out because you turned all their underwear pink?" I snapped. He laughed and replied "No, they kicked me out because I couldn't turn their underwear pink" I gave him a confused look
  43. "I'm no Longer Gifted" I had heard about people losing their gifts before, however it was very very uncommon. like a one in the million chance, no one could really explain how it happens either.
  44. I gave him a sorrowed look, "That Sucks" he sharply replied "Yeah well, shit happens" I could see I had upset him, but how was I to know. He closed his locker and Muttered "I've got Class, Bye" as he scuttled off to class.
  45. 'Ruuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuude' I thought as i giggled to myself.
  46.
  47. On my way home, on my Old, but Classy Navy blue bike I couldn't stop thinking about how Jack had lost his Gift. How he had went from being one of the most idolized people in the school to being a nobody like me. In under a day.
  48. However, the more I thought about it the more I was enraged at the fact that just because he couldn't turn change the colour of things anymore everyone started treating him differently. Anyway, i got home Locked my bike up and went inside
  49. I was greeted by my mother with an aggressive "New bike? where did you get it from?" I was dumbfounded, What did she mean new bike? It was the same one I got for Christmas two years ago? "What?" I exclaimed with a confused look.
  50. "The Red bike you were just on, where did you get it from? and where is the blue one i bought you?" she Replied. however this just proposed more questions than it answered. "Uhm what red Bike?" I hastily replied
  51. "The one outside, the one you just locked up, the one you rode down the street on? What do you mean 'What bike'?" I looked outside and noticed that my bike, my Navy blue bike was in fact red. Confused as Shit I lied "Oh yeah i forgot
  52. the chain broke on mine so I borrowed a Friends" I wasn't in the position to explain how the bike turned red because I didn't even know myself. Before she had time to reply I went back outside to examine my bike, Full of questions I examined the
  53. bike in detail and it was in fact still my bike, it had the inscription O.W. on the Side, so I know i didn't pick up the wrong bike. I remembered back to how jack lost his powers, Maybe he was lying and it was all an elaborate prank to
  54. change the colour of my bike red? however that made no sense, why go to all the effort when you could of just done it anyway. Anyway, it was safe to say that night I didn't get any sleep, I was too busy trying to come up with an explanation
  55. but the only one I could come back to was maybe I did it? maybe I had the same power as Jack? Maybe they just missed it in the trials? I mean it has happened before, But why would it show itself now? these were all the questions that
  56. kept going through my mind on repeat. It was driving me crazy.
