  25. From the last thread:
  26. Charlie's Utter Depravity: Family Feuds, Family Friends!
  27.
  28. >Charlie's "campaign" is going great!
  29. >Angel had drummed up support on the street, Alastor hit up some old contacts and has a number of locales on her side, and Vaggie... had somehow gotten Vox and Velvet on their side
  30. >the others have taken their time to bask in the unparalleled glory of the Cuddle Moth - really, she seems to have taken to this like a duck to water
  31. >not that Charlie was any slouch - she successfully secured 666 News to their cause
  32. >however, she realized there are still plenty of nobles who wouldn't stand for her rule
  33. >even if she had gotten the vast majority of her father's peers on her side (more out of fear than anything, but hey, they can't all be winners), there were still some who resisted - dangerous ones
  34. >while she would've loved to go through each and every one of them, one by one, and personally convince them, the others strongly suggested that, in order to keep the train of fame going, she'll have to make one, decisive and symbolic "conversion" - one that would shock the rest of the doubters into submission
  35. >this meant that she'll have to "convert" someone she wanted to keep 'till last, or, at least, second-to-last
  36. >she had been avoiding an open confrontation with her for a long time...
  37. >...but she realized that, in order to accomplish what she wanted, she'll have to "sweep up her own porch first", so to speak
  38. >...Which is what led her here.
  39. >the neighborhood of Pandemonium.
  40.
  41. >specifically...
  42. >The Van Eldritch residence...
  43. -
  44. >there were few doors that remained closed before her, especially these days - the flunkey, an older imp who looked like he hadn't slept for years (which, knowing the Van Eldritchs, might just be the case), immediately opened the door wide open for her, and asked if he should announce her presence
  45. >Charlie requested that he just tell it's a "visitor", and let the resident of the home come to her
  46. >the imp nodded, and left, leaving her to ponder her decision, while looking at the pictures in the hall
  47. >strangely, she even saw some that featured her - seems like the parents still saw her in an amicable light, keeping around images of her, including the one with her and...
  48.
  49. >...she had to look away
  50. >it didn't hurt anymore... Or, at least, not as much as it did before...
  51. >but it was not helping her confidence
  52. >she saw the imp return
  53. >he told her that she'll have to come to the Young Mistress, if she wanted to talk - and promised he hadn't revealed her identity
  54. >Charlie gave a wry smile
  55. >"Sounds like her, alright..." she thought, and nodded to the imp, who just bowed, and motioned down the hallway, offering to lead
  56. >she declined, still knowing the layout of the building... Sort of...
  57. >Non-Eucledian trigonometry could easily throw someone off if they hadn't encountered before
  58. >lucky for her, they hadn't changed much since she was a child...
  59.
  60. >"Ugh, look, whoever the fuck you are, I'm not buyin' anything. ...Kinda in the middle of a crisis here, I know everyone else is, but just deal with it!"
  61. >the rapidfire shutdown of all an any arguments (or greetings, for that matter) hit her like an old friend
  62. >...the kind your parents had warned you about
  63. >her accents was still the same: a mixture of Ulster Irish and Valley Girl, occasionally slipping into illocatable Eastern European with odd accent changes (which kinda made her sound like Dexter, if Dexter was a woman), and the same, wet buzzing that made her sound like she's talking through a body of water
  64. -
  65. >"...H-hey there, Helsa!"
  66. >the moment she heard her voice, the white haired (was that really hair?) monster froze up, before whipping around, wide-eyed (including all the eyes on her "hair" and torso), staring at her with a mixture of anger and (luckily for her) fear
  67. >"..:WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE?!" she shrieked, and began marching towards her...!
  68. >...only for her stride to petter out as she drew nearer, coming to a nervous stop just beyond arm's length
  69. >she kept staring at her, or rather, trying to see if staring daggers at her would cause physical pain (which they would've, if she was a mortal), or drive her away
  70. >when that failed, she spoke up again, shrill and impatient:
  71. >"W-Well?! What do you want, Charlotte?!"
  72. >Charlie sighed
  73. >"Good to see you too, Helsa." she muttered - she really didn't want to be there
  74. >their relationship was... Contentious at best
  75. >the two of them never seemed to get along, ever since elementary, while their families were closely thighed, with both Charlie's and the Van Eldricht parents supporting each other
  76. >Harold usually stayed out of the conflict, not really supporting either side, and having a more amicable, if distance-keeping relationship with Charlie in private...
  77. >...until they became a couple...
  78. >...and then broke up
  79.
  80. >it nearly resulted in a feud between the two families, as there was evidence that the young Van Eldricht may have gotten more than a little physical with Charlie
  81. >in the end, the whole argument was dropped - Harold was told to stay away from Charlie, while the Devil (despite his growing disappointment over her life choices) comforted his daughter
  82. >however, with Lilith's nurturing support, Charlie soon got over the heartbreak and trauma, and it wasn't long after that she met Vaggie...
  83.
  84. >Helsa, who around that time was just avoiding her, angry about their relationship, was kept in the dark about their break-up for some time, only finding it out from presumably Harold or her mother
  85. -
  86. >"Whatdoyawant, Charlotte?" the monstress hissed again, her voice bitter with venom
  87. >"I just... Came to see how you were?" the Princess muttered with a wry smile "We haven't seen each other in a while, and..."
  88. >"HAH!" Helsa laughed, sneering ""Just came to see how I was?" You're an awful liar, Magne! Don't even try!"
  89. >she snickered to herself, before adding
  90. >"Small surprise daddy's so disappointed in you..."
  91. >Charlie felt her temper flare up, but kept her cool - there was nothing Helsa could do her, she told herself, and besides, she didn't come here to fight
  92. >"Well..." she began "Truth to be told, I did come for a more specific reason..."
  93. >she paused
  94. >after a few moments of waiting, Helsa predictably snapped
  95. >"Well?! What is it?!"
  96. >Charlie suppressed a smirk
  97. >so predictable... No, wait, don't think of her like that! You're here to make amends!
  98. >"I'm here to make amends!"
  99.
  100. >silence
  101. >Helsa stared at her, dumbfounded and incredulous
  102. >"A-mends?" she spluttered "You want to make amends?!"
  103. >"...Yeah!" the Princess replied, with an awkward smile. She didn't really have much of a plan besides being honest and hoping Helsa wouldn't try to skewer her on a tentacle
  104. >after a few moments of flabbergasted gaping, Helsa laughed, seemingly genuine at first, before it gave way to a bitter jeer
  105. >"Tch! And just what, pray tell, are you making amends for?" she asked, narrowing her eyes
  106. >Charlie was taken aback - she couldn't exactly remember what the origin of their conflict was
  107. >it has been such a long time ago - she vaguely remembered they got along better when all three of them were children
  108. >she didn't have any siblings, so she most often played with the Van Eldritch siblings, or the children of other demons
  109. >...before, one after the other, they went separate ways...
  110. >...many of them alienated from her, due to her cutesy ways...
  111. >Charlie gave a deep sigh, sadly reminiscing, only to hastily gather her bearings when Helsa cleared her throat
  112. -
  113. >"I... Don't know..." she admitted, only to wince as Helsa growled, her sneer giving way to an enraged scowl
  114. >"You... DON'T... KNOW?!" she spat "You show up on MY door, let yourself in...!"
  115. >Charlie wanted to mention that she was allowed inside, but thought it wiser not to get the old imp butler into trouble
  116. >"...You come up to me with this fancy tale of wanting to make AMENDS!" the monstress continued, her voice now close to a shriek, before she gasped, dramatically, and continued with a hushed, yet indignant tone
  117. >"...And you don't even know WHY?" she asked, severely, before roaring "IS THIS YOUR IDEA OF A PRANK?!"
  118. >she sounded more insulted and annoyed than angry
  119. >Charlie frowned
  120. >"I assure you, this is NO trick!" she said, firmly "I can't recall WHY we never got along! We just do! We hated each other since school, and I don't even know why! But it's stupid, and I want to fix it!"
  121. >it was now Helsa's turn to be taken aback - the retort had surprised her
  122. >but as soon as that surprise came, it faded away
  123. >"You're right. It IS stupid." she said, only the sneer again, when she saw the hopeful smile on Charlie's face "Stupid of you to believe you'd be so easily forgiven! You want to make amends, and you don't even know what you've done?! Oh, please, try to convince me this isn't a cruel joke!"
  124. >"But I really don't know!" the Princess replied, close to yelling "What did I do?! Tell me! I'm sure I can make it up for you! Just tell me what I've done!"
  125.
  126. >by now, Helsa's sneer has faded, giving way to a disgusted frown
  127. >"...You really don't know, do you?" she asked, chuckling bitterly upon Charlie's fervent, earnest nodding "Well, I'll tell you..."
  128. >She leaned close - Charlie did the same
  129. >"Remember elementary?"
  130. -
  131. >a young Helsa stood next to a neatly made poster, looking glum
  132. >not far from her, a group of students, parents, and the teacher gathered around another, larger, more flashier poster, with a Blu ribbon on it - next to which stood a cheery young Charlie Magne, smiling, starry eyed, with a gap tooth smile
  133.
  134. >present day Charlie frowned, pondering
  135. >"Wait, wasn't the ribbon awarded based on popular vote that time? More importantly, why are you still mad about that?"
  136. >"THAT ISN'T THE POINT!" Helsa snapped "...Because you did it again..."
  137.
  138. >middleschool Helsa stood beside a beautiful painting, looking glumly towards Charlie in the center of a crowd, standing beside her own, even more beautiful and detailed painting
  139.
  140. >"...and again..."
  141.
  142. >highschooler Helsa stood in a sports uniform, silver medal around her neck, staring enviously at an exhausted but proud Charlie, holding the gold in the air
  143.
  144. >"...and again!"
  145.
  146. >a seething Helsa in a prom dress, staring at a likewise dolled-up Charlie, with a ribbon across her chest, tiara on her head, and a bouquet of flowers in one arm - and Helsa's brother on the other!
  147.
  148. >present day Charlie winced - that last one felt particularly like a low blow
  149. >"No matter what we did, whatever we competed in, I could only be second best!"
  150. >"Second best isn't last...!" Charlie argued, but the monstress was having none of it
  151. >"Oh, don't give me that crap! Your parents were part of every jury! Who would dare to tell Lucifer's pwecious wittwe daughter that she just wasn't good enough?!"
  152.
  153. >now, Charlie wanted to retort - she had really had enough of hearing the same old argument from people...
  154. >...and she REALLY wanted to step out of her father's shadow!
  155. >however, the last bit of Helsa's sentence had caught her attention...
  156. >"..."not good enough"?" she thought, casting a sad look at her rival...
  157. >...however, she still couldn't stop the next question from slipping out of her mouth
  158. -
  159. >"Weren't your parents also part of the jury?"
  160.
  161. >Helsa's eyes widened
  162. >as did Charlie's, when it dawned upon her what she just said
  163. >after a moment of stunned silence, the Lovecraft Ian just shook her head - escaped tears falling like dewoff the leaves
  164. >"A-And to top it all off, you even snagged my brother away!" she growled "As if high school wasn't easy enough for you..."
  165. snap
  166. >"YOU'VE MADE HIGH SCHOOL A LIVING HELL!!!" Charlie bellowed, her horn bursting through her forehead, and her eyes a blazing red, a ring of fire expanding from her feet, causing the monstress to take aback
  167. >she shrunk at the sight of the Princess' snarl, wincing from her roar
  168. >her own, many eyed and mouthed tentacles were at the ready, as she held Charlie's gaze, her scowl matching her
  169. >panting hoarsely, the blonde eventually calmed down, horns receding, eyes and teeth returning to normal
  170. >with a few deep breaths, she was back to normal, though a soft frown lingered on her face
  171. >"...and you needn't worry about Harold. We broke up, remember?"
  172. >finally, a smirk appeared on Helsa's face
  173. >"HAH!" she jeered "What's the matter? Couldn't handle the Eldritch horror?"
  174. >"He hit me."
  175. >the monstress froze up mid-laugh
  176. >"...say what?"
  177. >"He hit me." Charlie repeated, with an eerie serenity "I didn't want to lord over the imps like he did. Didn't come to bed with him. So, he hit me."
  178.
  179. >Helsa stood, motionless, her face slowly contorting with anger
  180. >"...no... No, that couldn't have been him. You're lying!"
  181. >"I'm an awful liar, Helsa, you told me as much, remember?"
  182. >by now, the monstress' face was completely screwed up with rage
  183. >"That... Fucking... GIT!" she shrieked, multiple mouths snarling "I can't fucking BELIVE that he'd done that!"
  184. >"Really?" Charlie asked, raising an eyebrow
  185. >"Oh, fuck off, Charlotte! Some of actually heve been raised better than to go slummin' with a discount Mexican carpet-muncher!"
  186. >"Wow. Wooow!" Charlie droned, sarcastically "Birds of a fucking feather, aren't you?"
  187. -
  188. >both of them remained silent
  189. >finally, with a deep sigh, Charlie broke the silence:
  190. >"Do you know what I remember?" she asked, softly
  191. >Helsa just gave her a dirty look
  192. >"I remember us playing together, working together on things, small things, like sandcastles and drawings..."
  193. >the monstress just scoffed
  194. >"You were always better at drawing, so I was surprised when I won a drawing contest."
  195. >"That' where your winning streak began." came the bitter reply, spitting every word "In fucking Kindergarten!"
  196. >Charlie frowned
  197. >"Remember in junior high, when we put our differences aside for the chemistry project?"
  198. >that seemed to do the trick
  199. >Helsa let out a hearty chuckle, though, one tinted with sadness
  200. >"That, I do. We were both flopping chemistry, hard, and we needed a passing grade. But we failed it when we blew up the lab!"
  201. >both of them chuckled a bit, efore breaking into a hearty laughter
  202. >but Charlie's giggles pettered out, as something dawned upon her
  203. >"...no, that wasn't it..." she murmured, catching Helsa's attention
  204. >"W-What do you mean?" she asked, still trying to stifle her giggles
  205. >"It wasn't just the two of us, there was another..."
  206. >now, this made the Lovecraftian think
  207. >she pondered for a bit, but realization soon struck her
  208. >"...Yeah, you're right! You were checking off the instructions and writing down the results, I was the one doing the mixing, but the supplies and the bunsen burner were being handled by..."
  209. >their eyes widened
  210. >"Harold!" they said in unison - both of them were in shock
  211. >but Charlie soon gathered her bearings, and turned to Helsa
  212. >"Remember that, after the drawing contest, I gave you the prize?"
  213. >the monstress blinked
  214. >"Yeah, and I was happy for that, until someone told me that you gave it to me to mock me. That it was a pity prize!"
  215. >Charlie's eyes narrowed
  216. >"Who told you that?"
  217. >"...Harold!" the tentacles demon exclaimed
  218. -
  219. >she barely had any time to recover from the shock this time, as the Princess was right on top of her
  220. >"Who told you that second place means you're not good enough? Was it your father? Your mother?"
  221. >slowly, Helsa's expression transformed from one of shock to one of anger
  222. >"...No. It was... Harold!" she yelled "The vicious bastard! How could he do this to me?!"
  223. >"Still think it's unbelievable that he hit me?" asked Charlie dryly
  224. >the monstress gave her an apologetic look
  225. >"No, shit, I'm sorry! I didn't know he was like that! If I did, I would've--!"
  226. >"It's OK, it's OK, it wasn't your fault! He tricked us all! But it's all in the past now!"
  227. >still, Helsa now seemed to avoid her gaze, too hurt and ashamed to reply
  228.
  229. >another bout of silence
  230.
  231. >"So... What now?" asked the Lovecraftian, after a while
  232. >Charlie took a deep breath
  233. >"As much as you desire nothing, but revenge right now - and don't worry, I feel much the same - I think it would be better if we'd do something about our relationship..."
  234. >"...How do we do that?"
  235. >Charlie smiled
  236. >"Well..." he replied, opening her arms wide "How about a hug?"
  237.
  238. >Helsa immediately reeled back, and looked at her like she had a rare and unsightly disease
  239. >"...Are you serious?" she asked, incredulously. She had heard the rumors, had seen it on the news, but she honestly didn't believe in it
  240. >surely, the pwecious wittwe pwincess wouldn't be so depraved...!
  241. >...would she?
  242. >and yet, here she was
  243. >offering her - HER! - a HUG, of all things!
  244.
  245. >"It's just a friendly hug!" said Charlie innocently
  246. >the monstress gave her a bemused look, but - after meticulously looking around, to ensure no-one (and particularly not the imp servants) were watching -, with a deep sigh, she stepped up to Charlie
  247. >she was a good head's worth taller than the Princess, who seemed to quietly squee and bounce on her heels in front of her - she REALLY wanted this hug, didn't she?
  248. -
  249. >like nany othrt demons, she stiffened up when Charlie's arms wrapped around her
  250. >she had drawn her close, too, resting her cheek on her shoulder - she felt warm
  251. >comforting
  252. >with a quiet sigh, she returned the gesture, her body relaxing as she leaned into the hug, chin resting atop the Princess' temple
  253. >her eyes shut, she too a shaky breath, feeling her rub her back up and down - the scent of apples and cinnamon filling her nostrils
  254. >it hurt - but it was a healing pain
  255. >Charlie, on her part, was enjoying what she felt was a well-earned hug - Helsa's body was cool against her own, and surprisingly soft
  256. >she breathed in deep, taking in the cold, salty sea air that emenated from her tendrils and coat
  257. >briefly, the thought of trying out how this hug would feel without clothes ran through her mind, but she quickly cast it aside
  258. >she was pleasantly surprised by how little resistance Helsa showed to the idea, and didn't want to ruin it - she wouldn't admit it, but cuddling her rival had been one of the best experiences she ever had
  259. >as if a huge weight had been lifted from his chest, that she didn't even know was there, though, she recalled feeling something similar when she shared a genuine hug with Katie for the first time, and when she saw her pass it onto Tom, who readily accepted it
  260.
  261. >after a while, the hug loosened, and the two found themselves staring at each other
  262. >"...So..." muttered the Lovecraftian, breaking the silence "What about Harold?"
  263. >"Oh, I'll take care of that!" replied Charlie, cheerily "I have a plan!"
  264. >"Oh? What is it, then?"
  265. >the blonde just smiled
  266. >"Haven't you heard?" she asked "It's all over the news!"
  267. >she leaned close, and spoke in mocked-hushed tone
  268. >"It's the latest gossip..."
  269. >Helsa chuckled
  270. >"A-Alright, I'll bite. What is this plan of yours?"
  271. >Charlie smiled, broadly
  272. >"I'm taking over Hell!"
  273.
  274. >...and with that, she was subjected to a rare sight: Helsa's every eye bugged out, wide open, and all her mouths gaped, jaws dropping
  275. -
  276. >"Hmmm..." mused Charlie, gauging her reaction "Better than expected."
  277. >she smiled to herself
  278. >"She'll warm up to it... Eventually." she thought
  279.
  280.
  281. Aaaaand that's a wrap!
  282. Hopeyou enjoyed this little C.U.D. detour-story, guys!
  283. And I hope at least one of you will take a story idea off the list, and write one as well!
  284. C.U.D.dle anon, out!
