  2. That speedrun rankings point system makes no sence. How the hell does kirby have twice as many points than me lmao.
  3. I could probably beat his 1:27 in 2 weeks and it gives him so many more points than my any% time. (admittelly my any% time is not much better cause fcking spider shafts but still, its harder to beat than kirby's 1:27 i think.)
  4. Also, ranking peoples purely because of their pbs doesnt make sence, people can be much better than others in a game even though their pb is worse. (ive had that discussion in the sm64 community before....)
  5. Also, how is the mp2 wr less worth than the mp1 record, i dont think thats much easier to beat...
  6.
  7. And i didnt know miles ran any% in mp3. The mp3 wr also gives way too many points. Why do you rate doing 6/21/17 % i could do each of those. Why the hell does 21% give you 600 points it is not hard to do. Same for 6%. i could finish both in less than 2 days.
  8.
  9. Cool that youve added a new split up list though.
  10. Edit: something that would encourage runners to do segmented runs would actually be not splitting the list up, i would like to see more segmented runs honestly, so maybe it is a good idea to keep the old list.

  13. Stop talking about how you could "easily" go do things and go do them.
  14.
  15. Also, no, I would not like that to replace the leaderboard. Segmented runs are a large part of Prime's history even if they're not that common these days.
  16.
  17. MrSpEeDrUn
  18. Well, considering my pb went from 1:49 to 1:34 within less than 2 weeks with 4 finished runs >_>
  19.
  20. MilesSMB
  21. I can't wait for your streams over the next 4 days completing both 21% and 6%.

  27. no, the leaderboard has it all wrong. don't you know what mrspeedrun is capable of? he should definitely be ranked #1 for all the things that he COULD do. just wait and see, he'll surprise all of us.
  28.
  29. also i'm eagerly awaiting the upcoming arguments over a 100% arbitrary point system.
  30.

  32. im just saying how pointless it is to rate runners entirely from their pbs. (was mostly referring to the point ranking thing)
  33.
  34. Nisco
  35. I don't see how you can rate runners any way other than their pbs
  36.

  38. I'm looking forward to your 21% and 6% streams.

  46.
  47. Well considering I regularly beat everyone in 100% races that has a slower PB than me, and regularly get beaten by everyone who have faster PBs than me...
  48.
  49. I don't think anyone disagrees that the ranking system is generally pretty arbitrary but it's also hard to find some objective manner of ranking it. I recommend not taking it that seriously, the goal of it is to lay out a simple table of what every regular prime series streamer does.

  52. B-B-But my srl leaderboards points.
  53.

  55. The points are indeed completely arbitrary, but I do have more ideas about how to make the rankings more fair. Right now the system is obviously flawed since, for example, a player with a 1:10 any% and no listed 100% time would have the same amount of points as a person with a 1:20 any% and a 1:42 100%. I don't think it's too much of a stretch to assume that any player with a 1:10 any% time could easily get a 1:42 100%, but then that begs the question... why haven't they done that yet?
  56.
  57. The points system is already set up with an exponentially decaying formula. Going from 0:56 to 0:55 in Prime any% is worth a full 70 points while going from 1:16 to 1:15 is only worth 17 points. It could be argued that it should be even steeper since I'd guess that it's more than 70/17 = 4.1 times as hard to go from 0:56 to 0:55 as it is to go from 1:16 to 1:15.
  58.
  59. There's also the issue of the arbitrary maximum points allocated to each category. I tried to do this according to the perceived "prestige" of each category, but I admittedly just made that shit up.
  60.
  61. If the consensus is that these rankings shouldn't be part of the leaderboards, then I will remove them.

  65.
  66.
  67. This is how it should be interpreted. Perhaps if I removed the "Rank" column from the left side of the table people would interpret it as less of a competition?

  77.
  78. IMO you should probably make some note on how it should be interpreted, or just get rid of the rank column. I'm only one opinion though, so I guess wait for other people to chip in their opinion?

  81. IIRC m177 didn't really like the points system much either.

  87. Yeah man lets rank people by what they say they can do, not what they've actually done! <_<

  92. You've got to be fucking kidding me......Why don't you PROVE IT THEN instead of just talking shit about the hardest categories in the Prime games....

  98. I personally preferred the old layout. Not that I'm completely throwing this idea out the window, but it clearly needs works as Skull has already mentioned.

  101. if you care about arbitrary points/rank, you're speedrunning for the wrong reason.

  104. I'm proposing a new rule: if your handle is "MrSpeedrun" then you automatically get a 5000-point bonus for untapped potential

  107. I was going to write a post about how stupid a point system is in general, but no that sounds pretty good now.

  115. Thats what im saying, rate runners yourself and don't let a point system do it for you.
