  1. --PART 3--
  2. I stared at my phone. Monika must have noticed too, because she put her hand my shoulder and looked up at me concerned. “A-anon, it’s gonna be alright, we’ll figure ou-“
  3. “SHIT I COMPLETELY FORGOT TO PACK OH GOD HE’S COMING TOMORROW AND I HAVE NOTHING READY AND-”
  4. “Anon!” Monika grabs me by the shoulders and pulls me into her. Her warmth was something I still wasn’t used to, and it calmed me down enough to think about the situation at hand. I let go of her and take a deep breath.
  5. …Alright, I thought to myself. “Monika, since it’s my step-dad picking us up, it’ll probably be a lot easier to convince him to take you home with me, I can probably use the same excuse I used with my roommate, and that you need a place to stay. Let me talk to my birth father too and see if we can crash there for winter break.”
  6. “Alright.” Monika says. “We should probably start getting going then, I can help you pack your clothes…” Monika’s eyes start to wane as she slumps into me. I quickly rush over to her and catch her just in time before she passes out. She’s breathing heavily but doesn’t seem too warm to the touch. I chuckle to myself. This girl went so far just for me, and wouldn’t even let me know that she was this worn out? Monika groans a bit before dozily opening her eyes. “Anooon, can we go get some breakfast now?~” Monika mumbles half-asleep.
  7. “Why don’t we head back upstairs for now? You don’t exactly seem like the early-riser type to me,” I tease, knowing she usually sleeps much earlier.
  8. “I ammm, I ammm, I just need some coffee anon…” At this point Monika is slumped into my shoulder with her eyes shut, lightly breathing into me. She forces another chuckle and a smile out of me as I hold her close and walk to the elevator. As we return to the room, I can already see that my roommate has disappeared again. He was only supposed to be there for the morning, but I had to check just to make sure. Tom hasn’t exactly been the best of living partners; he barely showers, smokes in the room all the time, and just brings in piles of guests without any notice. I can’t count how many times he’s brought a girl into the room only to find me changing into my pajamas for the night. Monika plugs her nose with her thumb and forefinger.
  9. “Ugh, it smells like skunk in here!” Monika looks around for the source of the smell. “Anon, did an animal die in here or something?”
  10. “Wrong skunk,” I give her a melancholy reply. “Tom must have been getting lit again. You know, if I had a nickel for every time he did something I asked him not to…”
  11. Monika, reeling from the smell, leans back against the door. “Here,” I say as I grab the near empty bottles of air freshener and fabric cleaner. I use the fabric cleaner on his bed and chair and spray the air with the freshener. I open the window, and immediately the cold air sweeps all the dank stank out of the room. I shiver and look longingly to my bed. I know I have a job to do, so I’m able to stop myself from giving in. That is, until I notice Monika doing the same.
  12. I prop myself up on my bed and motion for her to come over. “What’s up Anon? Weren’t we gonna- H-hey!” I grab her by the waist and hoist her up on to the bed with me. “A-Anon! W-what are you doing! I, I-“ Monika then falls silent, noticing that I’ve already gotten the blanket pulled over my head and my eyes are closed. “Well, come on.” I pat the side next to me. I open one eye to see Monika already laying down next to me. I slowly wiggle my right arm under her side, then move the left arm over her. Monika snuggles her back into me and places her head just under mine.
  13. “You don’t have any idea how long I’ve wanted this.” I whisper gently to her as I gently bury my face into her. I wait for a response, but the only response I get is her light snoozing, and the occasional whistle come from her lips. I close my eyes once more and match my breathing with hers.
  14. Good night, Monika. I love you.
