  1. Tao: Welcome, mystery combat squad, welcome! It is truly remarkable what you have done!
  2. Tao: I've been waiting for this moment to come, and I'm sure you all have too. Come now, let's eat.
  3. Tao: There is much we need to discuss, and I'd hate to be a poor host to all of you.
  4. ......
  5. Tao: So, do you all remember what you were told to do once you've gotten to me?
  6.
  7. Draft Daddy (the cigar-smoking skeleton dressed as a soldier): Affirmative, sir. We were all ordered to, in their words, terminate you with extreme prejudice.
  8.
  9. Tao: Ah, yes, I figured as much. There is a reason I harbor no ill will towards any of you, or even the soldiers serving the Coalition for that matter.
  10. You are all being misled into believing I am the enemy. And I think you're all aware of this, otherwise you would have gunned me down already.
  11. The Coalition's looking for some- (Maluk makes some sort of obnoxious noise or goes on a brief tangent about shitting)
  12.
  13. Tao: ..What the fuck? (Tao takes another pause and clears his throat)
  14.
  15. Tao: As I was saying, the Coalition's looking for someone to blame. When I led the initial campaign to liberate Hongo from Schremb, it was a disaster.
  16. We were ill-prepared for the frozen hell that awaited us. When we were at Schremb's mercy, he had one thing to tell me. Hand over all my troops to him,
  17. or he will kill them all and force me to watch it happen. I had no choice.
  18.
  19. Lazarus Moses: So you and your troops, and your lieutenants. you were all-
  20.
  21. Tao: Forced to serve Schremb's interests, correct. It was either join him or be exterminated. All the bloodshed is quite unfortunate, but the Coalition
  22. has always needed an enemy. Our superiors were blinded by their lust for revenge against me, for what they saw was my betrayal of the Hongo people.
  23. It is disgusting. Their hatred for me has caused many unnecessary deaths. I do not hold any of you responsible for the deaths of Tso, Tso-Ling, or Lent.
  24. It was the Coalition who murdered them.
  25.
  26. Tao: And I hope now you understand, I am not the monster the Coalition has made me out to be. But they are expecting my death.
  27. Tao: So If you still wish to kill me, you have a right to do so. It is your choice, however. Regardless of what happens, you are free to leave. It is your call.
  28. Tao: Most of my forces remain loyal to Schremb, and I cannot convince all of them that they are misguided. Be aware of this. Everything we do is done for Hongo.
  29.
  30. [If the player chooses to kill Tao]
  31. Gasdude (sullen tone of voice):..Objective complete...(takes a deep breath) Let's go, we're pulling out.
  32. (Game ends early, fade to black, cue end credits & House of the Rising Sun. Credits show Coalition soldiers calmy walking through the now-ruined Hongo City)
  33.
  34. [If the player lets Tao live and leaves]
  35. Crev: Let's go back and tell the Task Force we aren't leaving Hongo until Schremb is dead.
  36. Tao: Schremb's tyranny must fall. May Hongo guide you.
  37. (Game continues on to mcm2_21)
