   shinae is a very hard worker and doesn’t aim for anything less that what she thinks she can do. she never sells herself short and would probably rather die that willingly lose to someone else.

   although shinae enjoys pushing herself past her limits, she’s very understanding when other people aren’t like her. she knows that she’s not exactly an easy person to keep up with, so she tries to help out others as much as she can if they’re going through something.

   now, there’s a difference between COCKY and CONFIDENT. shinae hates when people get over her heads, so when she’s being proud of herself and her achievements, she keeps it in mind that she can be coming off as cocky.

   there are times when shinae goes into this ‘episode’ of being uncaring of everything for a little bit. it’s not that she doesn’t care, it’s that she’s too exhausted to waste energy on conveying emotions and whatnot. to be truthful, she’s just not an emotional person overall, and likes to think more about her grades and her future instead of how she feels in the moment.

   similar to her apathetic episodes, sometimes people just snap when they’re under too much pressure. when the weight on shinae’s shoulders feel like a hydraulic press crushing her to the ground, she can become very snappy and annoyed with others. she’ll be a bitch until she can find a way to calm down.

SCHOOL LIFE :
↳ of course, shinae is wellknown as the top student at lim academy. she’s the person that you can go to when you don’t understand a topic, or need to borrow notes from. many people idolize her for keeping a steady ‘number 1’ spot while keeping calm. not only that, but she’s notorious for her debating. she can’t remember the last time she’s lost a debate—mostly because she’s so monotonous that she can keep a peaceful front, while her opponent looks like a nervous wreck. and even though it seems like the most unlikely thing, shinae has been on the volleyball team since freshman year. although her life can get hectic with her mother’s illness and other family related issues, studying, volleyball games and practices, debates and debate meetings (not to mention her job!) shinae enjoys all of it; there’s something soothing about the chaos that she’s become accustomed to.

   • as weird as it sounds, shinae feels the most calm when she’s studying. it’s like... she’s doing something that’ll help her become a better version of herself, and that’s all she wants in life; to become the most perfect that she can be.
↳ coffee milk tea
   • shinae needs a daily dose of milk tea, even more when it’s coffee milk tea. she needs it to function, and usually has one in the morning from the cafe she works at.

   • there’s something about debate that makes shinae feel, well, validated. when she wins a debate, she feels like she’s been proven right, and it makes her feel.. good.
↳ listening to music
   • not only is it a relaxing time killer, it also prevents people from talking to her. she often walks around with earphones in so no one attempts to interact with her. most of the time she’s listening to kpop, although you can spot her listening to billie eillish’s ‘when the party’s over’ when she’s especially tired.
↳ volleyball
   • the feeling of control when she’s in her zone is a feeling that shinae absolutely loves. being in control of a situation is like shinae’s heroin, and it feels even better when it’s a game like volleyball, when you never know what could happen. when she’s in control of plays, shinae does not hesitate to bring out all the assessts.

   • shinae doesn’t have a lot of free time with all the things happening in her life, but when she gets the chance to unwind, she sits in the dark and orders some food in, then goes on a horror movie marathon.

   • once again, shinae doesn’t have a lot of time to binge watch but that doesn’t stop her when she’s truly invested in an anime. she worships haikyuu, cries over kimi no na wa, and will literally sock you in the face if you dare to diss baku or todo.

   • although it makes her look like a mean girl with her headphones in and chewing gum, she hates the possibility of her having bad breath. it’s just gross.

   • shinae often goes to the hospital every week or so to check in with her ill mother. sometimes she’s there after an accident and happens to see the people involved. it leaves a gut-wretching feeling in her stomach.

   • they’re a distant reminder of nights that happened in her early childhood. nights that she doesn’t want to remember. and not to mention, loud noises are just irritating.

   • they’re just nasty. ew.

   • it leaves a burning feeling in her throat that she dislikes.

   • of course, people need to eat, and shinae does. but afterwards, her stomach will hurt for a while and she’ll feel like puking. (this happens to me all the time oop)

BACKGROUND :
↳ shinae is sort of.. a mistake. her parents didn’t know she was conceived until her mother was three months pregnant. her father is some rich businessman that she can’t remember, and he left not long after she turned 4 or 5. her and her brothers are all bastards; illegitimate children. they all share the same mother and different fathers, and all three of them are results of drunken nights. shinae’s father stayed with her mother the longest out of the three men that fathered her and her brothers, so her brothers knew who he was, but she can’t seem to remember. when she was in her last year of middle school, her mother was diagnosed with a heart disease, along with a bad liver from all her drinking. her eldest brother had graduated by then, and began his modelling career. two years later, her older brother began his acting career, fresh out of high school. although they did bring in their fair share of income to help with their mother’s hospital bills and etcetera, shinae didn’t like being the only member of her family to not he helping, so she got a part-time job at a cafe not far from home so she wouldn’t have to commute for long.

   there are times when others remember that hyunjin is a nineteen year old boy and not a five year old that everyone says he is. he's not as innocent as he seems, and there are times when he shows it. it doesn't happen frequently but when it does, he doesn't hold back.

↳ they met thanks to suho, shinae’s older brother. it turns out that their mothers were close childhood friends, and one day shinae and her brothers find themselves at hyunjin’s after her mother goes off with another man. ever since, hyunjin and shinae know they can rely on each other, even though shinae doesn't like admitting that.

HOW YOU ACT AROUND THEM
  ↳  BEGINNING :
   • well, in the beginning, shinae is really bad at expressing her emotions in a healthy way. most of the times when they're together, shinae's way of expressing her feelings (of gratefulness, happiness, sadness, etc) is by hitting hyunjin with either pillows or small fists, anything that she knows won't hurt. she admits that hyunjin is attractive and that if he wasn't 'hyunjin, suho's best friend' then she would totally go out with him, but it doesn’t really matter, because he’s hyunjin, and that could never happen.

  ↳  MIDDLE :
   • an emergency happens with shinae’s mother which scares the three siblings, and who else is there to comfort them but hwang hyunjin? that night, something about the way shinae sees him changes. he’s really not the same boy he was eight years ago when they were little children. he’s more mature and wise, even though he doesn’t show it. he knows how to deal with situations like the one she’s going through, and maybe it’s the way he comforts her but .. maybe hyunjin isn’t so bad.

  ↳  END :
   • shinae does what she does best with foreign emotions, she buries the feelings deep down and covers herself in work and school. but inevitably, the truth comes out, like it always does. after a brief confiding session with BIRTHDAY, she musters up all the courage she has and decides to confess to hyunjin. and then all her hope is crushed when he starts laughing, but the sound of her heartbeat is nothing compared to him smiling is saying “i’ve loved you since forever” or something cheesy along the lines of that.

HOW THEY ACT AROUND YOU :

  ↳  BEGINNING :
   • hyunjin has always been whipped for shinae. and it’s obvious by the way he’s constantly flirty with her. and does it kind of offend him when she doesn’t react to his charms like everyone else does? yes, but what did he expect? she’s hwang shinae. and maybe he can’t hear her threats and his laughter over the sound of his heart breaking every time she disregards him but does it matter? no, because it’s not her fault that she doesn’t feel the same.

  ↳  MIDDLE :
   • hyunjin gives himself what he believes is false hope when he reads into things shinae does a little too much. the way she smiles more softly, the way she laughs when he says something that would’ve irritated her months ago. and it makes hyunjin sick to his stomach because he knows that what he’s thinking could never happen. but it feels nice, to imagine that he and shinae could happen, in another world, where she’s not shinae, his best friend’s sister, and he’s not hyunjin.

   • hyunjin can’t say he’s not hurt that he sees shinae pulling herself away from him, but once again, it’s not like he expected anything. it was nice while it lasted, but he should’ve known that something like this would happen. obviously, he’s proven wrong when she ends up at his doorstep at the dead of night, looking like she’s just cried. and words can’t explain how happy he felt when he heard her confession.
