Deemed insane for claiming that the failed rescue mission in the Philippine waters was doomed because of a seemingly-extinct predator of epic proportions--the prehistoric, Megalodon--Jonas Taylor, the world's greatest deep-sea rescue diver, finds himself in the vast ocean realm of Mariana Trench, five years later. But, as three scientists of an underwater research facility near Shanghai get trapped inside a crippled submersible attacked by an unknown creature, Jonas will need to work fast to redeem himself. Could the disgraced rescuer's theories about the vicious underwater leviathan be true after all?
It's hard to believe that this film was released theatrically. I guess it was the only way the studio felt they could hopefully recoup a bit on their investment over the development of this project over past 20 years. There is absolutely no tension, character development, dialogue, style, acting...the things that make "Jaws" a classic. I did not go in expecting a film like Spielberg's masterpiece, but I was expecting to at the very least to be given an entertainment on the level of "Orca" or "Deep Blue Sea". This makes "Jaws 3D" (a film so bad it's funny) look good. This is not a good bad movie. It's just a bad movie. Hopefully Jason Statham can take the money from this and get back to making solid films like "The Bank Job".
I've been waiting for the meg to come out ever since I first heard of it over year ago and I'll tell you well worth the wait. Best shark movie since jaws. Yes predictable yes not the very best storyline but given I've never read the novels. If your looking for the most fun of the year... aside from deadpool and infinity war this movie is it. Hope you feel the same
Whether you like The Meg depends on how much you like seeing Jason Statham in and out of a wetsuit, doing action-hero things. He's certainly good at it, and he's the best thing about the movie, not that the competition is particularly fierce.
