- Hello! Thanks for enjoying the music in my videos enough to check out this pastebin. Since you came all the way here, allow me to share some behind the scenes about some of the songs I picked. Like an easter egg of sorts!
- ---
- My main goal with creating the music selection was to never re-use a single track. I wanted every moment to be memorable and so for the full duration of the series, you'll never hear the same song twice. Half of the games on this list I have not played, but I kept an open mind and dug into soundtracks from many different corners of the web. Even before ERA I's release I knew where several of the tracks were gonna be used in later ERA's. As an example the "Stronghold Town" theme in Heroes 3 was a track I knew I wanted to use for Bob's final run from the start, so I held onto that track for nearly 2 years before finally getting to use it in ERA IX.
- For ERA I the best track in my opinion has to be the Test Drive Unlimited track. The way it slowly eases you into the story is perfect. The Zone of the Enders intro track also took quite a while to find, but despite it fitting perfectly as an intro I feel like I undersold the series a bit. I will most likely end up re-doing the voice overs for the supercut and create a new intro with close to the same lines. It'll make the song hit harder.
- My favourite track in ERA II is Valley of Howling Winds. Yu-Gi-Oh! Capsule Monster Coliseum has a very varied soundtrack and it was just cool to create a simple yet hype montage of Lapogne who was the first person to really push the game past a simple showcase.
- During ERA III is when I started ramping up the story telling. This series truly taught me that I don't need to constantly be talking for people to retain their attention span. My favourite moment that showcases this is the start of the video where I use "Find Your Way" from Final Fantasy VIII during a comparison between me and Lapogne's movement. The way I deliver the line before the piano sneaks into the track is great. Honorable mention goes to Bdub's montage as well. I love that during the downtime in the song I got to use some voice clips from him hyping himself up in the run. It was a cool moment
- For ERA IV the best song is "Foregone Destruction." The big Yankee montage when he finally hits temple skip in a run. Yankee is a big fan of DnB in general so I tried to fit in as many tracks from the genre into that segment as I could. I knew he would like it. When revealing ERA IV for the first time, The World of Warcraft song at the end of the video really struck a note with a lot of people and was truly the first time where people actually felt cliffhangered wanting more. Was a cool, somber moment
- The desert swim during ERA V is iconic. "Siberia" from TimeSplitters 2 was a song i saved since ERA I for this segment alone, it fit perfectly. I also think "Scorching Desert" from Final Fantasy X was a perfect song to talk about the desert rolljump route to. Not only is the song title fitting, it has this tiresome heatstroke sound to it. Like a never ending desert with no oasis in sight.
- For ERA IV Bob pointed out that he really liked "Stage Select 1" from Mega Man X5 when going over the new No OoB route. This made me really happy as it's my favourite too. This ERA could have definitely been 6-10 minutes longer in another universe, but none of Bob's old No OoB vods exist anymore, so this era ended up being quite short. I would have definitely used a cool track for a Ricky vs Bob montage when we were trading the world record back and forth through the 48's-45's.
- ERA's VII through IX is where the series reaches its peak. The absolute best songs are used here so let's mention a few. For ERA VII the back to back songs of "Ogre" from Tekken 3 into "Military March" from Dragon Ball Z: Budokai really showcased Goofy in a dominant and intimidating way. I call this segment of the video "Rise of the Intimidator" for a reason. Jonda's montage song was nabbed from a PS1 demo disc that I played growing up. The song would play during Devil Dice and Wip3out and I just had to use it here, with some cool Wip3out references. The God of War song for the mysterious Goofy part is also great, love the mountain sage depiction
- ERA VIII.. Where do I start lol. The first song. "Eternal Memory." Once again from Yu-Gi-Oh! Capsule Monster Coliseum. What a tone setter. "Hollow Bastion" for the BTR segment, it just made it feel like a living nightmare. The Rival Showdown segment was a song called "Battle IV" from Destrega, a fighting game I also played on that same PS1 demo disc. The song just fit perfectly somehow? The return of Bob with the Tony Hawk music. Stellar's epic run. The Silent Hill 3 song for Zanderful's epic discovery. Xyphles finding Robot Skip. Goofy's jetboard montage and of course my final push for the 38. All of the songs used here are some of the best in the whole series
- Much like ERA VIII, ERA IX has too many good songs to choose from. Aslov's intro goes insane, I've always loved the thumping sounds of "Champion Cynthia Battle" from Pokémon D/P/P. I recently found "Meteor Herd" from Sonic Adventure 2 and I thought it fit perfectly for Bob's return. The Deus Ex song was also a magically perfect fit for Aslov's sharking of the record. Funny enough the track sounds like something most youtubers would use. Something kinda synthy with a tint of tension. I really like "Arctic 1" from Worms 3D during Aslov's segment. The music from the worms games seriously saved my ass during segments where I had to fill 45 seconds to 1 minute and I just needed some quick ambience. Quite literally every single song during Bob's saturday grinds are goated. I saved the best for last if it wasn't obvious. The very end of the video has both parts of the Jak 3 credits, which I think is just the most fitting way to close the series.
- Thanks for reading and feel free to ask me questions about the series on stream or in my discord
- Ricky
