  73. Background:
  74. Linifield is from Horizon's End, one of the biggest mercenary hangouts and pleasure stations in Morgan's Mile. They were an entertainer at the House of Cats, where their duties had them doing a great many things--singing, dancing, playing instruments, egging on people to gamble more, playing games (card, dice, board, and video), and prostitution. They're a well known face there, one of the many workers at the famous jazz house who had gotten the local special bodywork done. One of their usual customers, a merc who went by the callsign Gardener, had decided to visit them one evening a few weeks ago and partied harder than usual; a combination of that, the stress of merc work, and encroaching age caused her to pass in the night in the same bed as Linifield (though, the courtesan would note, after saying that was the best night she'd ever had). This wasn't uncommon in Horizon's End, though somewhat dissappointing--Gardener was a good tipper and generally a nice and pleasent person to be around.
  75.
  76. Linifield didn't expect to wake up two days later with an omninet message from an unknown sender stating [Congratulations, Pilot. You have been Chosen. Access is YOURS aslongasyou can keep IT.] and an attached .upl file for a HORUS DRYAD pattern-group mech. A bit of an oppurtunist--and, frankly, fearing what might happen if they stayed, given the relative cutthroat nature of mercenaries and not wanting to get their friends in the House mixed up in things, tendered her two weeks and has since gone on to try the mercenary life themselves.
  77.
  78. They are in far over their head.
  79.
  80. Muse Marketing 'Potts'-Class Secretarial Comp/Con Unit 'Bybe': An older model of secretarial comp/con, Bybe has been Linifield's constant companion for most of their life, having been given to them by their parents on their fifth birthday. She helps Linifield keep everything organized, from upcoming dates to where they left their purse; Linifield doesn't have much of a head for tech themselves, but has tinkered with Bybe to keep her updated over the years, long past the unit's expected shelf life, with custom firmware, hardware, and software updates. One update she recieved recently flew under Linifield's nose--at the same time the entertainer recieved their mech and merc licenses, a single line of HORUS liturgicode was injected into her codebase. On that day, she ceased being a normal comp/con unit and became a true NHP, her implanted/cable-attached hardware in Linifield a miniaturized casket. Neither her nor Linifield are aware of it, but both have noticed that Bybe has become better and faster at reacting to her owner's needs and desires over the past couple of months.
  81.
  82. Appearance:
  83. Linifield Bates is a very attractive androgyne; though their hair and skin color is changeable for fashion reasons, they prefer black hair cut around their shoulders and paler skin. They've got the biomodifications common among the HOuse of Cats, in their case choosing to have cat's ears and tail. They are svelte and thin, with a narrower waist and decent hips, and a mostly flat chest. When not performing, they prefer simple shirt and shorts and running shoes, though usually over an emergency EVA suit that's common among the peopel of Horizon's End--part of the station's heritage as a former Legion outpost, every citizen there has a flight hardsuit for quick activation in case of venting or emergency.
  84.
  85. Personality:
  86. Aside from the entertainer's ability to always put on a happy face for the customer, Linifield is generally a somewhat cautious person, though optimistic about most things; they didn't grow up in money, but didn't really want for MUCH growing up--a happy home life (their parents are still alive on Horizon's End, their mother a life support engineer and their mom another worker at the House of Cats), growing into a good job they enjoyed. They did have a sense of wanderlust, which is part of why they came to work at the House--hearing the tales and stories of the mercenaries that commonly frequented it was one of the many perks of the job, though until they got their merc and mech licenses, they never thought they'd get to leave home themselves.
