I realised I was different

Not for the first time in his life, Chikatilo almost died of embarrassment. He was not sure which was worse,  the masturbating itself, or the fact of being spotted by his colleagues. Either way, incidents like this only increased his feeling of isolation.

'I always thought about this and suffered because I realised that I was different from everyone else,' he told investigators decades later.
