Soren Background

Soren Jack Aeternum was a Court Mage from millennia ago in a Human Kingdom whose history has since been lost in time. Born to House Aeternum, Soren possessed unparalleled magical capabilities that far outclassed his peers at a very young age, mastering almost every known magical element at the time alongside his own SOUL magic. At the age of 15, Soren became close friends with the prince of a nearby monster kingdom and by age 18, was a diplomat between his own kingdom and the monster kingdom, as well as a Court Mage for his kingdom. Soren would eventually begin to study SOULs and their nature, as a hobby and something to aim his DETERMINATION towards after meeting the monster prince. Little over 2 years after becoming a Court Mage, Soren's ability as a diplomat and friend would be tested with a terrorist attack upon his own by a group of Monster nationalists seeking to distance the two kingdoms. Combining this attack with one by a human nationalist group, the prince of the monster kingdom would end up "falling down", resulting in tensions forming between the two kingdoms. This event, combined with Soren's, albeit reluctant, act of killing all of the terrorists involved created an impassable rift between them. Soren, overcome with grief and sorrow, secluded himself entirely. For the following months, Soren devoted himself to SOUL research, using his fallen friend's SOUL to conduct experiments, ultimately granting him immeasurable knowledge of both Monster and Human SOULs alike (The SOUL, despite being a Monster's, would be sustained through his constant transfer of DETERMINATION to it). After these experiments, he would finally merge with the SOUL, hoping to give his friend another lease on life one day. Soren, now feeling rejuvenated and finally out of seclusion, would devote himself solely to his Court Mage duties until his 25th birthday. On that day, he was arrested, tried, and convicted of many crimes, some of which were truly crimes he committed, while the rest were falsified by the other Court Mages in their jealousy over his capabilities. With all of these crimes against him, he was sentenced to death and was wrongfully executed, fueling an unbridled rage and hate towards the Court Mages who had betrayed him and the kingdom that had abandoned him. Due to his strong desire for vengeance against those who wronged him, Soren's SOUL would unlock the ability to RESET, ultimately this RESET would fail however as his death had already occurred before a SAVE point was made, resulting in a RESET loop that forced the Time-line to correct itself by ejecting the problem from itself: Soren and his SOUL. As a result of this, Soren would end up ejected into a void-like area, lacking any form of time flow. This void-like area, which he dubbed the Abyss of Reality, granted him the ability to view completely alternate universes and ultimately analyze paths others with DETERMINATION SOULs have taken. Using this information, he took note of all the possible SOUL traits and even theorized thousands more, once more finding purpose and DETERMINATION. Eventually, following the path of Frisk up until the Asriel incident, Soren would find himself a chance to escape from the Abyss, which he chose to take in hopes of being able to find a better life in a time more peaceful than his own.
