  1. Okay firstly, if you haven't seen the new Star wars movie that came out, refrain from reading spoilers unless you want to be spoiled and got spoiled and know what happen anyway. =========
  2.
  3. This is all speculation so don't take my theories seriously. I've been gathering other a lot of people's theories and opinions from different articles online about who might happen to be the parents that Rey is the daughter of.
  4.
  5. This is going to be a long and lengthy type essay or short story about my theory, so don’t take it wrong or get really offended by it, but I hope you guys might have the same or similar theories as me about Rey. So I’ve been processing a lot of articles that I've read online and other Star Wars geeks and their theories based on Star Wars knowledge and lore and who Rey's background and who her parents are. So since there's probably not really a lot of backstory that we find in Rey, there’s a lot of plotholes and explanations to be filled, but we've seen possible hints/clues of her possible past manifested throughout the movie. So one of the examples being shown throughout the movie was that we see her going down to touch the lightsaber, her vision progressed kind of struck me that this was less a true vision, but perhaps more of an actual MEMORY from the PAST, and the fact that she was THERE! She saw Luke with R2-D2, herself as a child watching the departure of her parents (HINT HINT : possibly Solo and Leia, or just Leia and another parent going to look after her daughter), the First Order coming into power with the Knights of Ren destroying Luke's attempts to rebuild the Jedi at his Jedi academy school and her being surrounded by slaughtered victims and then she’s being taken away for adoption in Jakku, based on what you can infer at least from what you can remember or what’s been shown in her memory. So many of us are left wondering who can be the possible parents of Rey, did a lot of her memory get wiped from Luke to hide her from the First Order and Knights of Ren? Also why or how come she suddenly has the ability to inherit force-sensitive powers much like the Jedis or Siths and being able to fight pretty remarkably well with a lightsaber? These examples that manifest itself with her throughout the movie makes people wonder. So you also see other things such as Rey being able to use ‘reverse-engineered’ the Force via her encounters with Kylo Ren. As far as we know, Rey has no Jedi training let alone suddenly being force-sensitive, like wtf… really? But you also wonder why she’s able to not just resist the Force but apparently turn the Force back on Kylo Ren during an interrogation scene. Later we see her being able to mind trick a stormtrooper, forcing him to release her from her restraints, leave with the cell door open, and drop his weapon for her use, allowing her to escape. And you’ve also noticed that the young woman’s lightsaber skills improve the longer her battle with Kylo Ren goes on. This theory suggests that Rey is so strong with the Force that, rather than requiring Jedi training, she can already “reverse-engineer” vital skills by encountering others who exhibit these powers. With that being said, you can likely infer that she comes from a family of force-sensitive Jedis or Siths, right. So the question is who exactly are the parents of Rey?
  6. Okay so here’s my Theory, I have 3 but 2 of the Theories make more sense but one of them being the one path that actually what the writers and JJ Abrams are most likely going
  7.
  8. Theory #1: Rey is Luke’s daughter.
  9. There is speculation that Rey could be Luke's daughter because near the end of the movie they’re definitely setting you up to think that maybe it seems that she’s Luke Skywalker’s daughter. There’s also the fact that Luke does have a son with Mara Jade later on in the Extended Universe novels, Ben Skywalker, but obviously everything will get replaced eventually with newer actual canon that follows the series up to Episode 7 and replacing their son Ben with perhaps Rey Skywalker? It could also be that her mother might be Jade Mara or maybe a newer character that resembles like her mother, but that’s unknown yet. Which is why you see Rey being able to demonstrate the ability to resist the dark side of the Force, at some point in the movie Kylo Ren tries to tempt her to choose the dark side and then when she finally wins in the duel she also resists the dark side by choosing to spare him despite the dark side's lure calling to her to end his life. Other than that it doesn’t really make much sense to me for this Theory #1. Honestly, like I said I can say that the movie going near the end is most definitely trying to be setting her up to be Luke’s daughter, who he happened to trained in the past… I mean it can be just too obvious if they already gave it away, but that’s what Abrams and the writers want the audience to think, right? However, it can also be her niece from his sister and brother-in-law’s daughter, or perhaps from another unknown family with force-sensitive powers which is what I’ll explain in my other theories. So this kind of doesn’t make sense to me, but I’ll explain it more later after I explain and sum up my other theories from what I firmly believe who exactly Rey came from and and why I don’t believe Rey is Luke’s daughter.
  10. Theory #2: Rey is Han Solo and Leia’s daughter
  11. At the same time, you can also speculate that Rey is the daughter of Han Solo and Leia, but it seems that neither Han nor Leia seem to remember having a daughter. But the more I think about this, the more it also makes sense already. As far as we known in the EU (extended universe) books, Han Solo and Leia have several kids. The closest one to be similar to Kylo Ren, or his birth name Ben Solo, would be Jacen Solo who was trained as a Jedi by Luke Skywalker, then he turns to the dark side and take a new name, Darth Caedus. Then we have Jaina Solo who is the twin sister of Jacen Solo but appears to manifest much like Rey based on the fact that she somewhat inherit her father's mechanical aptitude and her mother's Force sensitivity, if she happens to be the daughter of Han and Leia that is. So basically: Kylo = Jacen Solo, Rey - Jana Solo. They're lying to her because let’s face it… she's going to have to kill her brother, and just like the novels with Jaina Solo. In this new universe, however, she's not the twin, maybe just the younger sister. Either way she needs the appropriate training from Luke again since she seems to be an apprentice from the past at a very young age. So we’ll get to see her train more as a Jedi again in Star Wars Episode VIII and get some refinement from the Mandalorians. It would be an awesome way to finally delve into Mandalorian’s culture. Anyway, in case you’re confused, it’ll be both Ben Solo (Kylo Ren) and Rey (assuming she'll most likely be the sister) that will replace both Jacen Solo and Jaina Solo in the new official canon from episode VII and above, and any prior events to that as well. A lot of this makes more sense in the wider context of the Skywalker family conflict. The fight between a brother (Ren) and a sister (Rey) is more powerful than one between cousins if Theory #1 states that she’s Skywalker’s daughter, which I highly doubt.
  12. Around this time, Luke begins setting up his Jedi Elementary and Academy School and within the first few years of his life, Ben goes off to become a young padawan/apprentice of Uncle Luke (Remember, Jedi are best when their training begins very early). In the years that follow, Ben is lost. Probably since he’s manifesting more into the dark side like his grandfather, Anakin Skywalker (Darth Vader), then later on being able to be manipulated and get taken by Supreme Leader Snuke and by the growing First Order, and Knights of Ren, eventually taking the name “Kylo Ren”. This is an event that sends everything spiraling out of control. At the same time while this was happening, prior events Luke was already training Rey at an early age being maybe about few years behind Ben but started about same age, apparently. And knowing the fact that she might be the next hope and the chosen one to lead the Jedis as Luke knows that Ben has been turning into the dark side. Since Han doesn’t know what’s going on and maybe they both find out their son turned into the dark side, they both decided to separate ways and find a way to hide or give up their daughter and perhaps with the aid of Luke get Rey to a safer place to hide from the growing powers of Snuke and the First Order. I believe they got Luke to somewhat wipes a lot of her memory and I think they agree that it’s best to put their daughter along with a lot of the other former younglings, padawans/apprentices of Luke to Jakku since the First order and Knights of Ren are immensely growing into power. And the fact that they would kidnap a lot of them to turn them into Stormtroopers was a dangerous situation to be and they would kill any parents on site then wiping their memories with the force powers from Snuke. As a result, Han and Leia have a falling out, they both separated for a long while. Then Luke realizing his failures as a Jedi master to prevent Ben Solo to turning into the dark side and the attempt to re-building the Jedis have fallen. He sets a course for seclusion (that's why you don't see him until the end). So I’m guessing Max von Sydow’s character, Lor San Tekka, who indicated in The Force Awakens that he knows Leia, but also you see in the beginning gets killed by Ren who’s looking for the whereabouts of Luke. But Tekka I would assume had some role at the Jedi academy and is in Jakku to watch over her and other younglings and former apprentices from a small distance, while maintaining little contact to avoid revealing her whereabouts or any information about Luke, etc. As far as her growing up after those events and being in Jakku now and as far as we know that she’s a scavenger, we don’t know how exactly how she ended up that way… but I’m guessing economic problems so she has to make a living somehow, you know? So with this theory of Rey being Solo and Leia’s daughter, this explains a number of things. Han instantly takes to Rey, striking up the kind of familial kinship that might exist if a storyteller were trying to drop hints. Also, Chewbacca likes her. And Chewie always liked Princess Leia in the same way. And it explains (this is perhaps the biggest indicator) the very long, motherly look and hug that Leia gives Rey when they finally meet at the end of the movie. Also with the BB-8 was probably around when Rey was growing up. So it belongs to the rebellion and Rey could miraculously understand the little robot. If this is true, why doesn’t anyone tell Rey? Well base on said theories, Han doesn’t tell her because he doesn’t know about Leia having daughter in secret and just hiding it from him, or he does know but doesn’t know if it’s her. Leia hasn’t told him because he’s clearly very broken about having lost their son to The Dark Side, Leia probably doesn’t know if it’s she’s the daughter that they sent to be watched over. It was a story for another day that will never come, at least not for Han. Why doesn’t Leia tell Rey at the end? Maybe she does and we don’t see it. That seems less likely. But perhaps it’s something that Rey knows when she sees Leia for the first time. She’s strong with The Force, her feelings can easily be searched but she’s not quite sure. Or perhaps Leia doesn’t want to tell her yet because of what happened with Ben. If one child had too much Vader in him, perhaps that could be true with the second child, as well. Best to send her off to Luke so that he can find redemption in her training. It's also far more tragic that Han Solo died not knowing he had a second child.... pretty crazy and ironic right?.
  13. Anyway, as with Theory #1 the movie was definitely trying to be setting people up to believe that she’s probably Luke's daughter near the end when Luke stares at her and sees something familiar about her. Especially the bit with the lightsaber, and how Maz from that store made a point that it first belonged to Anakin, then to Luke, and was now "calling" to her, but I can finally understand why it makes sense that Rey is the daughter of Han Solo and Leia Organa.
  14.
  15. Theory#3: She’s the daughter of maybe a Sith family lineage, or normal parents
  16.
  17. I don’t know about this but this can be true too. But there could be a chance she came from an unknown Sith family of both parents or one parent that’s Sith on either one her father or mother, so that would make her maybe a half Sith. She has also yet to find that out in next upcoming movies that someone impregnated her mother through the power of the force or whatever. However…… I can firmly believe that Rey's parents are just normal people from some planet of sorts, but they aren’t OT(original trilogy) characters. It appeared that her parents dropped her off or were saying goodbye in a way, then were killed later without her knowing. So why is she so in tune with the force? You don't have to be born in a Jedi or Sith family to have it, like I said younglings can be trained with the Force at a VERY EARLY AGE, then you are exposed to its power (many kids were in the Jedi temple/Jedi School in the prequels especially the one Luke Skywalker was training his new Jedis in). I think much like Kylo Ren, Luke AND Snuke also sensed Rey's connection with the force at an early age, but with Kylo Ren’s going towards the dark side. But Luke got to her first and recruited her then began training her. Snuke got there second, but since due to her going with the Jedi, he killed her parents at frustration and at the same time knowing about Ben Solo (Kylo Ren) coming from the same Jedi academy school with Rey under Luke, both Snuke and the First Order managed to kidnap him to train him to the dark side of the Sith and be known as Kylo Ren later on(named derived supposedly from the Knights of Ren pat of the First order). So Luke being guilty and ashamed from all this especially since being able to see his nephew from his sister’s and brother-in-law son, Ben Solo, turning into the dark side and seeing Rey’s parents slaughtered, and both were his former Jedi padawan students, he secludes or exiles himself for maybe almost a decade or so. Like I said before in previous theory, from that a lot of people are also having the same theory that Luke also wipes a little bit or repressing some of Rey’s memories of maybe only her training from the past and being able to have some mild memory partially, that’s why those visions are shown when she picks up the lightsaber. Then I believe this is where any younglings were sent to Jakku to escape the growing power of the First Order and Knights of Ren for their own good and safety, and also possibly prevent any former younglings to be brainwashed into stormtroopers. Now you see in the beginning where Poe Dameron meeting Jakku’s village elderly, Lor San Tekka. The suggestion here is that perhaps the character that Max Von Sydow’s portray, Lor San Tekka, might also have had a role at the academy, and was therefore sent to Jakku to keep an eye on Rey and maybe some other younglings while maintaining little contact to avoid revealing her whereabouts or any information about Luke, etc. As far as her growing up after those events and being in Jakku now and as far as we know that she’s a scavenger, we don’t know how exactly how she ended up that way… but I’m guessing economic problems so she has to make a living somehow, you know?
  18. Missing information: Who is Finn and his connection with Rey?
  19. You've probably figured out by now that he could be forcibly removed from his parents and brainwashed into the First Order. But why is he the only Stormtrooper who has a conscience and rejects the Orders methods? It can be inferred that he’s Lando's son, Lando knows Han Solo since they were close friends… he would have been brought up with tales with the Alliance to Restore the Republic and the brave Jedi and the struggle against the Empire, including his father's role. He can't reconcile this with the Order's doctrine and is conflicted and decides to rebel. You can also assume that this may have do with Finn having connections before being as as one of the former young padawan students under Luke Skywalker at his Jedi Academy school, and his dad Lando, would be interested to see his son being turned into a Jedi. So I would assume why he has a major role in this movie because of his lost father or parents and possible connection to Lando his father. The theory also goes to show you that Rey, Ben, and Finn were all once as Luke’s students, and Rey being possibly as his niece or daughter. But seeing Finn not being force-sensitive, you can assume he probably wasn’t a former student but was just the son of Lando, or just happen to lose his force-sensitive powers after being taken by the First Order to get trained into Stormtroopers by the First order and also getting a lot of his memories wiped by Snuke. So it’s no coincidence that Rey and Finn are brought together in Episode VII.
  20.
  21. Anyway, I would like to conclude with my Theory #3 and firmly believe that Rey actually resembles just a former child as a padawan/apprentice of Luke. Rey already established a connection with the force, Luke (which is why the saber called to her), and R2D2 (which is why he activates when she returns to the base). So I think I’m more inclined to Theory #3 the most than #2 and #1, then Theory #2 next, then #1 last. But it’ll be interesting to see if they’ll go this path and it'll be a new concept instead of a stupid and boring third "I'm your father" twist that Theory #1 suggests… like come on, that’s been done already. Also with Theory #2 though people kind of don't like the idea of seeing the good/evil siblings thing being done to death in a lot of fiction, but we've already had long lost siblings in Luke and Leia from the older movies and in the old stories from the novels, works, etc.. so that’s why I don’t think Theory #1 can’t work based on that concept alone which has been done already, -____-
  22.
  23. So Luke feels guilt for trying to master the old Jedi way of bringing in children, which got her parents killed, and the shock he has on his face at the end is because Rey found her way back…. Now off to episode 8 based on all the theories I’ve provided, i think one of my theories is going to be told along those lines.
  24.
  25. Also, if any of you guys here that think Theory#2 is the probable outcome in Episode VIII that Rey is the daughter of Han Solo and Leia based on the general theory I provided, then once the next movie happens (Episode 8) and probably explains what I've said, then I think a lot of people will support the theories I've stated or have a similar theory close to it. But for now we can only theorize and wait until Abrams and the other writers confirms this or have plans on making any novels, books, etc. for new canon related to Episode 7 prior to the release of Episode 8.
  26.
  27. Who knows really, this is just based on observations from what I’ve read from people with good grasp of Star Wars lore and can make good theories about how the story might likely go, especially on hints that’s been given throughout the movie. Just my 2 cents
