- Vaccines.
- David Koch - "New research shows that Australia's wealthiest suburbs are at the highest risk of deadly disease outbreaks. That's because parents are not immunising their kids. Now the trend has been blamed on the anti-vaccination movement but experts say that many well well-off families fail to follow through with vaccination schedules because of overseas holidays and such. Sarah,..."
- Sarah Wilson - "I find that to be the weirdest connection to be honest. Umm, look, I've looked into these ideas, I don't have children, but I do follow these health debates, especially these very hairy ones. Umm, and I think we have had a discussion before, haven't we kylie, on all of this. Umm, in this case generally wealthy parents tend to not vaccinate their children as often, simply because they tend to be older and I guess more educated, so they tend to, you know, engage in some of the debates a little bit more deeply, as a result they weigh up all of the different research and so on. Now, umm, at this stage...
- David Koch "... but their wrong though ..."
- Sarah Wilson - " ... well the problem is, I mean I'm not going to take a stance on this myself because I don't know fully, but the research is not conclusive. That's ... (inaudible)
- David Koch "...wooooooahhh!..."
- Caroline - "...while the research is conclusive scientists do not claim there is anything substantial too..."
- Sarah Wilson " I want to say two things on this. I am just putting it from the perspective of the anti-vaccination movements perspective. What they say is that the gold standard studies, right, that are done to really absolutely conclusively prove things, the double blind placebo cross something rather test have not been done and it's almost impossible to do that on human beings especially children."
- Caroline - "We're seeing a resurgence in conditions like hooping cough and measels that for years were not around because of vaccinations. And it's only because ..."
- Sarah Wilson "....equally ..."
- David Koch "... if you decide not to vaccinate your kids I reckon you should tell the rest of the parents in the class, all that sort of stuff, we should know about it."
- Kylie Gillies "And maybe you can go somewhere else and educate your children. Do you know what, as far as getting around to not doing it, I bet you all those women still find time to go and have their roots done and make an appointment at the hairdresser.
- Sarah Wilson "I don't think that's the reason why they are not vaccinated their kids because they happen to be away the day that it was done. How come wealthy people can suddenly be on holiday's more often than you and us I don't believe that happens does it?"
- Kylie: Yes.
- Caroline: "Yeah!"
- Sarah Wilson " What during school term?"
- David Koch "Yes, lots of people go on holidays during school term."
- Sarah Wilson "Oh look I find that a loose correlation. Look if I had children I'd weigh up all the things before making a decision, at the time. But the other thing I should say is that a lot of the studies done are done by the drug companies themselves, bare in mind (inaudible) ..."
- Caroline "If you speak to a credible doctor they will tell you that it's disgustingly horrifically irresponsible to not vaccinate your children ....
- Kylie Gilles (inaudible)
- Caroline " ... anti-vaccination organisations should be banned, because what they're doing is really putting children’s lives at risk."
- David Koch " All right ladies I'd like to ask you to take it out side right now because we've got.... (inaudible)"
- End
