One large tree has collapsed, partially blocking the pathway.  The bark of the tree is riddled with hundreds of tiny holes that must have weakened it and caused its fall.  A skull, yellowed with age, hangs by a frayed rope from one of the tree's branches.  You also see an Adan'f blood warrior, a corroded brass caddy, a small star ruby, a tiny silver nugget, a srhhtel hammer, a small black opal, and some junk.

Jagged rocks and twisted roots turn the narrow trail into a challenge for the unwary, or clumsy, adventurer.  The intertwined branches of the trees allow little light to shine into the area.  Faint cuts mar the sides of some trees, as though some foolish townsman had once tried to cut down trees older than the city of Shard itself.  You also see an Adan'f shadow mage.

Posh homes and gated buildings surrounded by snowy-blossomed cherry trees slowly overtake the more compact and tightly packed shops and homes that occupy the portion of Shard closest to the city gates.  The street changes as it flows from north to south, its color shifting from bottle green to a dark, lapis blue.  A gate of ebony and steel to the south divides the upper city from the lower, a tangible boundary between castes.  You also see a pool of black shadows, an elegant black marble manor with a dragon-shaped cast iron lantern mounted by its entrance, a black marble manor with a carved ivory fountain shaped like a pair of young children leaning back to back, an ivory white quartz block manor with a huge marble fountain spouting crystal clear water, and a granite block manor with a weeping willow dangling over the roof.

A mild scent of belladonna fills the air. Posh homes and gated buildings surrounded by snowy-blossomed cherry trees slowly overtake the more compact and tightly packed shops and homes that occupy the portion of Shard closest to the city gates.  The street changes as it flows from north to south, its color shifting from bottle green to a dark, lapis blue.  A gate of ebony and steel to the south divides the upper city from the lower, a tangible boundary between castes.  You also see an elegant black marble manor with a dragon-shaped cast iron lantern mounted by its entrance, a black marble manor with a carved ivory fountain shaped like a pair of young children leaning back to back, an ivory white quartz block manor with a huge marble fountain spouting crystal clear water, and a granite block manor with a weeping willow dangling over the roof.

Roomy and rectangular, the tavern for Milene's Rose is always busy, but strangely never so full that it becomes unbearably crowded.  A booth in the corner allows for privacy, and a bar offers service for the thirsty and the hungry.  There is little sign of disarray anywhere.  You also see the publican.

The circle of obsidian on Xelten's forehead dims, causing his eyes to become briefly opaque and unreadable.

Xelten searches around for a moment.

Xelten asks in Ilithic, "What did she want?"

You softly say in Ilithic, "I am fine, just as I promised."

You gaze at Xelten.

You softly ask in Ilithic, "What makes you think she wanted something?"

Xelten says in Ilithic, "She asked for a private meeting with you."

Xelten says in Ilithic, "Clearly it had a purpose."

Xelten tilts his head back.

You peer quizzically at Xelten.

Xelten says in Ilithic, "Because we had an agreement that you would not see or speak to him.  Going to his home is far more severe than that."

Xelten says in Ilithic, "The fact that you are refusing to tell me what happened or where you went leaves me rather suspicious, given who you were with."

You gaze at Xelten.

You quietly say in Ilithic, "We simply talked."

You nibble your lip thoughtfully.

Your red ruby on your forehead dims drastically for a moment.

Xelten raises an eyebrow.

Xelten asks in Ilithic, "Then were you at his home?"

You look at Xelten and sigh.

You quietly say in Ilithic, "Fine... yes, we were at his home."

You shake your head.

Xelten folds his arms across his chest.

Xelten asks in Ilithic, "Why would you go to his home?"

You quietly say in Ilithic, "Because Coryne wished to speak with me, and that is her home as well.  If you require to know what happened, she is nearby.  You could speak to her."

Xelten says in Ilithic, "You could have asked her to go to our home instead."

You quietly say in Ilithic, "She will tell you what was discussed.  I would even go with you."

You quietly say in Ilithic, "She is the one that called the meeting.  I merely went where she asked me to go."

You gaze at Xelten.

Xelten says in Ilithic, "I would -expect- you to insist that it happen elsewhere."

You arch your eyebrow.

You softly say in Ilithic, "Coryne has done nothing wrong, and as Taleek was not present, I did not feel it was such an issue."

You sigh.

Xelten asks in Ilithic, "Regardless, I did not ask her what was discussed, I asked you.  Should I assume it was entirely irrelevant if you are not telling me, or is there some other reason you will not say?"

Xelten searches around for a moment.

You quietly ask in Ilithic, "What other reason would there be?"

You peer quizzically at Xelten.

You gaze at Xelten.

Xelten seems to be waiting for something.

You softly say in Ilithic, "Fine.  The Eye is disbanding."

Xelten says in Ilithic, "First that the Eye is disbanding, second that you spoke of it for three anlaen.  Additionally, the comment of having her child was entirely uncalled for."

You arch your eyebrow.

Xelten says in Ilithic, "Clearly the entire situation at present means far less to you than it does to me."

You softly ask in Ilithic, "I beg your pardon?"

Your red ruby on your forehead glows hotly.

Xelten says in Ilithic, "I cannot believe that you would go into his home, and then attempt to cover up doing so."

You gaze at Xelten.

Xelten says in Ilithic, "Do I think you are having an affair?  Absolutely not.  That is not an issue.  However, I am beginning to wonder if there is some other dark purpose."

Xelten asks in Ilithic, "What are those two saying to you?"

You softly ask in Ilithic, "Dark purpose?"

You softly say in Ilithic, "You are confusing me now."

Xelten says in Ilithic, "And you are confusing me in being anything but open with your husband."

Xelten searches around for a moment.

You softly say in Ilithic, "For starters... Coryne was the only one there.  So those "two" are not saying anything to me."

You sigh.

Xelten asks in Ilithic, "Why did she require you to be alone?  Why were you hesitant to tell me what you were talking about if that's all it was?"

You babble unintelligibly for a while.

You softly say in Ilithic, "My head hurts..."

You rub your head.

Xelten searches around for a moment.

Xelten sheathes his steel iltesh.

You gaze at Xelten.

Xelten seems to be waiting for something.

Deep shadows gather under Xelten's eyes and around his face, giving him a menacing appearance.

You softly say in Ilithic, "She required me to be alone because she wished to speak with me privately.  I was hesitant to tell you because, as is the case, you would not believe what I told you anyway."

You sigh.

Xelten says in Ilithic, "Of course I would not believe it after you were hesitant to say it and then that was all it was."

You softly say in Ilithic, "Perhaps I was hesitant because I was trying to convince myself that I did not have to answer to anyone."

Xelten says in Ilithic, "And especially after you outright defied our agreement and went to his -home-."

Xelten asks in Ilithic, "You feel that I am demanding too much of you then?"

You softly say in Ilithic, "Perhaps we need to write this agreement down, because I do not remember the home being mentioned.  I thought that I was merely not allowed to be in his presence, which I was not."

You sigh.

Xelten asks in Ilithic, "I ask, do you have any idea why I am so upset?  Do you understand at all?"

You peer quizzically at Xelten.

Xelten says in Ilithic, "Apparently not, though you seem rather hesitant to tell me anything anymore."

You softly say in Ilithic, "Do share then.  Tell me why you are upset so that I can understand."

Xelten says in Ilithic, "Coryne and Taleek very clearly aligned themselves against me."

Xelten says in Ilithic, "To continue to associate with them on any friendly basis is practically doing the same."

Xelten says in Ilithic, "Especially now if the Eye really has disbanded, you no longer are forced to communicate with Coryne."

Xelten says in Ilithic, "I cannot believe that after all that has happened, you would still -want- to be anywhere near Taleek or his home."

You softly ask in Ilithic, "So... I am not to be near Coryne either?"

Xelten asks in Ilithic, "What, do you actually wish to be?"

You gaze at Xelten.

You softly say in Ilithic, "Xelten, the Eye has not disbanded."

Xelten says in Ilithic, "To my knowledge, you've never outright lied to me until now."

Xelten asks in Ilithic, "Do I need to say how painful a concept this is?"

A shadow spreads across Xelten's face from his circle of obsidian, briefly conquering the light before all returns to normal.

You gaze silently at Xelten.

Xelten shows you a platinum wedding band set with dozens of tiny sapphires.  Sapphires of every shade of blue dot the band, blending together to form the illusion of light on the water.

You grimace.

You gaze down at the floor.

Xelten says in Ilithic, "These rings we wear should represent that there will be no lies between us."

Xelten says in Ilithic, "They should represent that you will be open and forthcoming on all things just as I would be to you."

Xelten says in Ilithic, "They should represent that you will be concerned with my concerns just as I am with yours."

Xelten asks in Ilithic, "What, then, did you really discuss with her?"

Xelten says in Ilithic, "Not that I am sure I can believe anything else you say now.  I rather expect at this point that Taleek -was- there."

You gaze sadly at Xelten.

You begin to weep softly.

Xelten gazes at you.

You cover your eyes.

Xelten frowns.

Xelten's shoulders bow as if under some great burden.

Xelten sternly says in Ilithic, "Answer me, Ayrell."

You sadly ask in Ilithic, "I did not tell you because I knew that no matter what I said you would be upset with me.  How am I supposed to know what I can say and cannot say that will not upset you even when you are not around?"

Xelten says in Ilithic, "The truth is always less painful than a lie, Ayrell."

You sadly say in Ilithic, "I did not technically lie to you.  She and I did discuss the concept of the Eye disbanding, however, it has not as of yet."

You break down and bawl your eyes out, tears flying everywhere.

You kneel down upon the ground.

You gaze sadly at Xelten.

Xelten says in Ilithic, "I am asking what about it you discussed."

Xelten says in Ilithic, "What conclusions were drawn."

Xelten says in Ilithic, "What your opinion of it is."

You sadly say in Ilithic, "There are no conclusions.  No one has any conclusion."

You sadly say in Ilithic, "No one knows anything."

You shake your head.

You sadly ask in Ilithic, "Are you satisfied?"

Xelten says in Ilithic, "No."

Xelten asks in Ilithic, "Why did you lie to me?"

You feel a bit weak in the knees and find yourself wobbling.

Xelten rises to his feet fluidly, like a large, graceful cat.

You sadly say in Ilithic, "Because I knew you would be angry...."

You gaze down at the floor.

You sadly say in Ilithic, "I was... frightened..."

A tear runs down your face.

Xelten says in Ilithic, "I am more angry that I was lied to.  I do not appreciate such.  Of all the people on Elanthia, there was only -one- person that I always knew I could trust absolutely no matter what."

Xelten says in Ilithic, "That was you, Ayrell.  And that is the only quality I truly require of my wife."

You quietly ask in Ilithic, "Is it?"

Xelten says in Ilithic, "Will I ever have that faith in you again?  Or will you continue to make me suspicious by keeping things from me."

You gaze at Xelten in amazement.

You quietly ask in Ilithic, "So... I stretch the truth a little and you lose all your faith in me... you involve yourself with another woman and I forgive you and accept you and continue to love you... How is that fair?"

Xelten stares deeply into your eyes.

Xelten quietly says in Ilithic, "Make no mistake.  There is nothing that will ever make me stop loving you."

You softly ask in Ilithic, "But trusting me?  It was that easy to stop?"

Xelten says in Ilithic, "I am very upset, Ayrell.  You are making it difficult for me to trust you."

Xelten says in Ilithic, "I wish to return to the times where I never had any reason to think that you would not tell me everything."

Xelten asks in Ilithic, "Am I wrong to think that I am the one who should know your secrets, not someone else?"

You weakly say in Ilithic, "No one knows my secrets..."

Xelten quietly says in Ilithic, "I should."

You sob.

You sniffle.

Tiny shadows slowly crawl out from Xelten's circle of obsidian like burrowing worms.  As the shadows reach his eyes they turn completely black.  After a brief pause, the shadows vanish, returning the eyes to normal.

Xelten says in Ilithic, "I do the best that I can and depend upon you to help me be better than that."

You weakly ask in Ilithic, "Did it ever occur to you that I grow tired?"

Xelten shifts his weight.

Xelten quietly asks in Ilithic, "Do you wish to continue being my wife then, Ayrell Liaryl Evyntine Tyrsin?"

You quietly say in Ilithic, "I wish... to disappear."

Xelten gazes silently at you.

Xelten quietly asks in Ilithic, "You would rather Fade than consider that question?"

You quietly ask in Ilithic, "When all of this is said and done, and the rumors have flown and all my friends are chased away due to the stories and rumors involving them or the the one I am not allowed to see... you tell me what there is left for me here?"

Xelten quietly says in Ilithic, "I, who is the cause of those things."

Xelten quietly says in Ilithic, "There is the chance that things will get better."

You give a slight nod.

You quietly say in Ilithic, "There is that, I suppose."

Xelten quietly says in Ilithic, "Fading is not a choice.  Living has choices, however.  You could live with me and hope for things to improve.  You could live with all of the others instead."

Xelten kneels down before you.

Xelten quietly says to you in Ilithic, "I would like for us to return to how we once were, and even closer than that.  I would like for our love to never faulter, for our faith to never faulter, and for us to be happy together.  I would like for us to be able to improve things together, and with those around us.  Together."

(Xelten slowly withdraws his hand.)

You quietly ask in Ilithic, "Tell me how that is possible now?"

Xelten quietly says in Ilithic, "By trying."

Xelten rises to his feet fluidly, like a large, graceful cat.

You quietly ask in Ilithic, "What do you think I have been doing all this time?"

Xelten quietly says in Ilithic, "We could try harder."

You quietly say in Ilithic, "I do not know how much more "try" I have left in me."

(Xelten takes a step back and faces the other direction.)

Xelten quietly says in Ilithic, "The other option is to be without me.  To lose all the burdens that have come as a result of being with me."

You quietly say in Ilithic, "More and more I feel it, every day, as if you are attempted to push everything else I have away so that I will have only you... and therefore no one else to turn to... no where else to go..."

You quietly say in Ilithic, "Please.... let me have something else... "

Xelten quietly says in Ilithic, "I do not wish for it to be like that.  But perhaps it has become so."

You rub your head.

You quietly say in Ilithic, "My head still hurts..."

have become incapable of sharing you.  That could very well be a subconscious director of my actions."

The shadows surrounding the circle of obsidian on Xelten's forehead deepen, momentarily shrouding his face in darkness.

Xelten quietly says in Ilithic, "I do not know how much it would hurt me to have a piece of my soul torn away, however."

You gaze at Xelten.

Xelten quietly says in Ilithic, "If I survived, I would likely be as I was before you met me."

You quietly ask in Ilithic, "If you survived?"

Xelten quietly says in Ilithic, "As I said, I do not know how much it would hurt me."

You feel fully balanced again.

Xelten quietly asks in Ilithic, "Would you like to be alone, then?"

You quietly say in Ilithic, "I do not know what I want."

Xelten comes and stands near you.

Xelten stares deeply into your eyes.

You gaze at Xelten.

Xelten quietly says in Ilithic, "I do not know what you want either."

The circle of obsidian on Xelten's forehead flickers softly, causing shadows to fill his eyes.

Xelten quietly says in Ilithic, "I do, however, know what I want."

You quietly ask in Ilithic, "Which is?"

Xelten quietly says in Ilithic, "I want for you to want me."

You gaze at Xelten.

You quietly say in Ilithic, "We shall see..."
