- i swallow a mouthfull of cold, unsweetened coffee, more whitener and water than it is coffee.
- it's my fifth cup tonight and i wonder why i'm even bothering when the caffeine i'm getting from this can't possibly be helping to keep my body going, not that i even have anything to be awake for.
- for some reason lately i just can't sleep, between the random anxiety nightmares and the uncomfortable stiff futon i'm usually pretty worn out when i wake up.
- what's the difference if i stay up then?
- at least this way i get to be tired on my own terms.
- i heave a long sigh from my cracked lips.
- dehydrated, i need to be drinking more water if i'm staying up all night pounding mugs of shitty instant coffee.
- i reach down next to my desk for my water bottle; an old bottle of faygo moon mist that i finished a long time ago, the logo faded and peeling off from overuse.
- i finish the last few vital drops of water like a dying man in a scorching desert made of dunes of piled up ramen containers and empty packs of cigarettes i haven't smoked in months.
- standing from my desk i begin making my way to the sink, weaving in and out between the columns of beer cans and tangled wires that hold my mind together.
- it's dark tonight, far darker than it aught to be.
- unscrewing the cap from my water bottle i turn on the cold water waiting for it to get even colder as i stare absent mindedly out the window next to my sink, maybe that'll wake me up, some nice cold water.
- that's why i see it.
- or rather i *don't see it*.
- anything.
- at all.
- the window next to my sink which should point down my stairs and out into the yard is instead completely bitch black.
- darker than even the absence of light it feels like my window is actively seeking the light out and destroying it!
- i gasp and take a step back forgetting my sink is on for a moment to just rub my eyes in confusion and stare some more.
- yeah no, this window appears to be... leaking? darkness?
- the darkness oozes in from my window like the thick oily limbs of some gelatinous sam fisher, seeking to destroy all light that comes before it, wreathing and wriggling it's tendrils to try and occupy as much space as possible.
