  1. Randall's Favorite Pokemon Starters
  2. For simplicity, only considering first stages
  3. Now edited in Gen 9 starters, not super sure of what to think of them cuz they all look pretty silly
  4.
  5. S+ Tier - ACTUAL GOD
  6. 1. Rowlet
  7. My favorite Pokemon obviously gets the top slot :)
  8.
  9. S Tier - Also Amazing
  10. 2. Charmander
  11. Fire lizard cool and cute, you love to see it
  12.
  13. A+ Tier - The Great Collection of Water Types - And
  14. 3. Fuecoco
  15. Derpy croc immediately shoots to the top of this ladder
  16. 4. Piplup
  17. Grown on me a lot this year, my fault for previously sleeping on this cute penguin
  18. 5. Mudkip
  19. Another adorable riser
  20. 6. Squirtle
  21. On its own it's cute, but what really makes it is the Squirtle Squad
  22. 7. Totodile
  23. Love this chomper
  24.
  25. A Tier - A Bunch of Well-Rounded Starters
  26. 8. Chimchar
  27. Fire monkey is epic, not quite cool enough to go higher, but that's totally okay
  28. 9. Eevee
  29. Long overdue turn as a starter, but we take those, no matter how odd Let's Go may be
  30. 10. Popplio
  31. Really well-rounded starter, even despite Alola's tendency for everything to be slow for some reason
  32. 11. Sobble
  33. Precious little one deserves all the hugs it can get
  34. 12. Litten
  35. Crazy that this is my "least" favorite of the Gen 7 starters, certainly didn't hurt that it came out around the rise of "it's lit"
  36.
  37. B Tier - These Pokes Have Some Nice Perks
  38. 13. Quaxly
  39. Really strange water starter, honestly not sure where to put it
  40. 14. Cyndaquil
  41. Pretty sure this was the first starter I ever picked, just generally a really average Pokemon
  42. 15. Scorbunny
  43. Cute but underwhelming
  44. 16. Grookey
  45. This one's just underwhelming, but pokey stick keeps it (barely) in B tier
  46.
  47. C Tier - Eh Sure, I Guess?
  48. 17. Bulbasaur
  49. Literally no universe where I would willingly pick Bulba over Squirtle or Charmander, but in a vaccuum (or compared to all the other grass starters lol) it's honestly an okay Pokemon
  50. 18. Torchic
  51. Definitely the biggest faller for me this year, pretty underwhelming and I don't really think it's that cute anymore
  52. 19. Oshawott
  53. Sorta cute, pretty underwhelming, but anime Oshawott absolutely carries here
  54. 20. Pikachu
  55. Most overrated Pokemon, I honestly like it as a branding mascot, just not as a starter
  56. 21. Sprigatito
  57. Weed cat really weird and sus, yet another idk case from Gen 9
  58. 22. Chespin
  59. Really sad that this is somehow my favorite Gen 6 starter, it's a wonder anime Chespin's back didn't break from carrying so hard
  60.
  61. D Tier - *Groans*
  62. 23. Turtwig
  63. Underwhelming, honestly I don't even think it's cute
  64. 24. Froakie
  65. Its evolutions are cool, but on its own it's far and away the biggest letdown of the water starters
  66.
  67. E Tier - No. Just no.
  68. 25. Treecko
  69. I've seen some love for it in the past few years, but I sure don't understand it at all
  70. 26. Snivy
  71. Given the underwhelming starter pool in Gen 5, I'd unironically consider picking this just so I can stash it and never look at it again (wow that sounds just like the BW1 speedrun)
  72.
  73. F Tier - The Dumpster
  74. 27. Fennekin
  75. I really tried to think of reasons to keep it out of F tier, but couldn't convince myself
  76. 28. Chikorita
  77. Some people really love it, some people really hate it. Chikorita doesn't give me any reason to stay out of the latter group
  78. 29. Tepig
  79. Dumb pig in literally every way possible, honestly impressive that it's this bad
