Here's, uhh, a good thought for you, just a little thought: This quest is dangerous with a capital D and when they're not falling in swamps or making out in the middle of some woods, they're getting attacked by monsters and they're generally not a problem because everybody's been trained and they survived into adulthood so they're obviously skilled, but when a Big Ass Motherfucking Hydra gets the drop on them, they're as close as they've ever been to actually dying. It gets its teeth around Eamon's leg and Fionn only just manages to send it careening over the edge of a cliff, very nearly taking Eamon with it.

Eamon's fist is balled up in his hair but he's not yanking he's just keeping him close and Fionn can't breathe he was so fucking panicked but they're alive and they're okay and it's fine now

eamon's seen a lot of shit back in his day, and he's faced the prospect death more times than he's wanted to admit (kind of happens, when you're the type of guy that would jump in front of a bullet for folks in the name of the greater good), but there's something so AWFUL and chilling and so, so, so very wrong when he nearly dies and one of the last things he sees is fionn's panicked gaze boring into his own as he's almost pulled down into oblivion with a monster that, to him, was fear manifested into flesh.

and then he's pulled up and he's alive and all he can hear is a ringing from his ears as the roars of the hyrdra leave him, his heartbeat pounding in his skull as a headache as powerful as a warhead starts to form, and the near-frantic mutterings of reassurance coming from somewhere near his ear and he can't think, he can't move, all he can do is grab onto something and hold onto it so hard his knuckles turn white as snow and he loses feelings in his hands. but its going to be okay, everything's fine, the throbbing pain in his leg is NOTHING because he's here, theyre there, its fine now

eamon is surprised by how quickly he yearns for fionn to be back with him, close, safe in the comfort of each others embrace. but, even though he's delirious through both shock and blood loss, he knows they cant sit there. he tries to walk on his own, limping, dragging his leg and biting his lip so hard it bleeds so he keeps from crying out. before he knows it, though, he's right back in fionn's arms...and he puts all his trust into him, knowing he'll get them back to camp, knowing that everything will be okay.

bonus round: eamon's leg never really heals right. maybe they took too long to feed him some ambrosia and wrap the wound, maybe a hydra's bite is more devastating than it appears, who knows?  he can walk on it, he can run on it, but when he's least expecting it, it'll flare up with pain as if it was set on fire that's enough to momentarily daze him. he tries to pass it off as nothing, saying he got distracted, saying he bumped his funny bone on something, but his empty, strained stare always ends up betraying him.
