  1. BBC London is the BBC English Region producing local radio, television, teletext and online services in London and parts of the surrounding area. Its output includes the daily BBC London News and weekly Sunday Politics on television, the BBC London radio station and local coverage of the London area on BBC Online and BBC Red Button. The region's headquarters are situated in the eastern extension of the BBC's Broadcasting House.
  2.
  3. BBC London also produces current affairs, features and sports programming for the region including the topical magazine series Inside Out and a weekly half-hour Sunday Politics show dedicated to the region.
  4.
  5. BBC London News (referred to onscreen as BBC London) is the BBC's regional television news programme for Greater London. The programme launched on 1 October 2001 as BBC LDN. After a major reorganisation of the BBC's South East region, with the London area splitting away to form its own separate region. The previous programme, Newsroom South East, had gradually decreased in its coverage as certain areas were switched to receive other regional news programmes. Following the launch of South East Today, a brand new programme for the new South East region, Newsroom South East was effectively broadcasting solely to the London area for a short while before it became BBC London News.
  6.
  7. BBC London covers a much more tightly-defined area, chiefly Greater London but still including parts of Bedfordshire, Essex and Hertfordshire in the East of England region and parts of Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Hampshire, Kent, Oxfordshire, Surrey and Sussex in the South East England region. There is also some overlap with the editorial areas of other BBC regions in this part of England.
  8.
  9. On weekdays, BBC London broadcasts six three-minute opt-outs during BBC Breakfast at 27 and 57 minutes past each hour. A fifteen-minute lunchtime programme follows at 1:30pm before the main 25-minute edition at 6:30pm. A 12-minute late update is shown at 10:30pm, following the BBC News at Ten.
  10.
  11. BBC London also airs three bulletins during the weekend: two early evening bulletins on Saturday and Sunday and a late night bulletin on Sundays, following the BBC News at Ten. The times of these bulletins usually vary.
  12.
  13. ===
  14. BBC South West is the BBC English Region serving Cornwall, Devon, Isles of Scilly, western Somerset, West Dorset and Channel Islands.
  15.
  16. BBC South West's television service (broadcast on BBC One South West) consists of the flagship regional news service Spotlight, the opt-out service BBC Channel Islands, the topical magazine programme Inside Out and a weekly half-hour Sunday Politics show dedicated to the region. BBC South West covers Cornwall, Channel Islands, Devon, West Dorset and a small part of Somerset.
  17.
  18. Spotlight is the BBC's regional TV news programme for the South West of England, covering Cornwall, Devon, Isles of Scilly, southern and western Somerset, western Dorset and the Channel Islands. There is also a special version of the programme for viewers in the Channel Islands. It launched on 20 April 1961.
  19.
  20. Spotlight is broadcast from BBC Broadcasting House in Seymour Road, Plymouth, the headquarters of BBC South West. There are smaller studios in Barnstaple, Exeter, Paignton, Taunton and Truro.
  21.
  22. On weekdays, Spotlight broadcasts six three-minute opt-outs during BBC Breakfast at 27 and 57 minutes past each hour. A fifteen-minute lunchtime programme follows at 1:30pm before the main 25-minute edition at 6:30pm. A 12-minute late update is shown at 10:30pm, following the BBC News at Ten.
  23.
  24. Spotlight also airs three bulletins during the weekend: two early evening bulletins on Saturday and Sunday and a late night bulletin on Sundays, following the BBC News at Ten. The times of these bulletins usually vary.
  25.
  26. BBC Channel Islands is the dedicated opt-out service for the Channel Islands. Local news broadcasts for the Islands began in the 1990s, when a short bulletin aired following the Nine O'Clock News. Since October 2000, two evening bulletins have been broadcast at 6:30pm and following the News at Ten. Originally broadcast from a studio at the Fremont Point transmitter, the news service is now entirely based at the studios of BBC Radio Jersey in St Helier.
  27.
  28. The opt-outs are produced by a team of multi-skilling journalists who write, film and edit their own stories, as well as producing and directing the bulletins on weekdays. The main opt takes up the first 12 minutes of the nightly 6.30pm programme with a full opt at 10:30pm. No opt-outs are broadcast during the day and at weekends, except for special occasions such as local elections or major sporting events such as the Island Games.

  36.
  37. East Midlands Today is the BBC's regional television news programme for the East Midlands. The programme is broadcast on BBC One from studios at the BBC's East Midlands broadcasting centre in Nottingham, also home to Radio Nottingham.
  38.
  39. East Midlands Today was established as an independent programme on 7 January 1991, having previously been a part of Midlands Today, which now solely covers the West Midlands region. The split arose from criticisms of Midlands Today as being too centric on West Midlands coverage, although a service of separate opt-out bulletins for the region had been provided during the eighties.
  40.
  41. On weekdays, East Midlands Today broadcasts six three-minute opt-outs during BBC Breakfast at 27 and 57 minutes past each hour. A fifteen-minute lunchtime programme follows at 1:30pm before the main 25-minute edition at 6:30pm. A 12-minute late update is shown at 10:30pm, following the BBC News at Ten.

  51.
  52. In 1997 Look East launched the sub-regional service, Close Up, for viewers covered by the Sandy Heath transmitting station and its relays. The opt-out allowed the two sub-regions to provide, during the main evening programme, around 10 minutes of news relevant to their area.
  53.
  54. Since 2018, there are two completely separate Look East programmes broadcast after BBC News at Six and BBC News at Ten on weekdays - Look East - East which covers Norfolk, Suffolk and Essex, and Look East - West which covers Bedfordshire (particularly Luton), Milton Keynes (Buckinghamshire), Northamptonshire, parts of Hertfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Peterborough.
