- In 1963, all the prisoners and guards mysteriously disappear from Alcatraz. In the present day, they resurface and a secret agency are tasked with re-capturing them.
- Switching between eras, Alcatraz focuses on the Alcatraz prison, which was shut down in 1963 due to unsafe conditions for its prisoners and guards. The show's premise is that both the prisoners and the guards disappeared in 1963 and have abruptly reappeared in modern-day San Francisco, where they are being tracked down by a government agency.
- I kept reading that the season 1 finale was to be a double length episode, yet here in Australia, I/we got episodes 12 and 13 independent of each other and even they did not have a smooth continuing blend from 12 into 13 so I can't see how that would have been the final "double episode" that I keep reading about. Almost began to kid myself that maybe there must be still more to come to close out series one, because if episode 13 was the finale here, it certainly stopped dead in it's tracks, as did episode 12 do the same thing.<br/><br/>The "Bullitt" copy car chase through the streets of San Francisco was great to watch of course but to me it was like hijacking a very popular and famous piece of movie history and use it to jack up some credibility into an otherwise pretty ordinary TV show. As good as that car chase was(and it still wasn't as good as Bullitt anyway), I still fail to see what point it had to make to the supposed storyline of "Alcatraz". That car chase is good in it's own right and could have just as easily have been included into ANY other TV show, anywhere. It was put into "Alcatraz" simply to get ratings and for no other reason.
- I tune into this looking forward to a new mystery twist and what a concept i thought all the inmates of Alcatraz disappear and come back 50 years later or so. From the first 10 minutes or so i was groaning ,a kid wanders off to non access area of Alcatraz ,no guard notices no parents notice no one notices as if.Big scary secret guy who has spent 50 years watching and planning for the expected returns spills all to female detective and author in like 1 min no warnings, once i tell you you your in or i kill you ,no sign official secret act to ensure keep what about to tell you secret just blam spill the beans and so it goes on, is this show aimed at 12 year olds there is just so little realism audiences are surely more educated these days by better cops shows reality procedure shows etc etc than to believe this .Shame shame great idea terrible execution .
