Proverb & Adagio Patrol

[11:52] <~BroadestPeak> After traveling from the Tavern, Proverb and Adagio emerge from a door on the surface of the barren city, except now much of the snow was gone in the windswept capital. Currently they stand around a small fire among the tens just outside the concrete citadelic structure that inhabits the center of the Ministry Square DMZ, Chief Echelon is leading the briefing near the tents.
[11:53] * Proverb comes trotting over to the fire, nodding to Echelon. "Chief."
[11:54] <~BroadestPeak> Echelon speaks to Adagio and Proverb. "Sergeant, Corporal, gather around quickly, and we'll get you both on your dandy way."
[11:55] * Adagio steps over and nods to Echelon, "Chief."
[11:55] * Proverb nods, making room, well, moving one step over for Adagio.
[11:58] <~BroadestPeak> Echelon sets a file onto the table before him. "Simple enough, you two are going on recon, pegasus and..." he smirks at Adagio. "Pegazony are going to make this a breeze hopefully. Your objective is to head north to the upper parts of the city, and locate the majority of bandit activity. Try to keep casualties to a minimum and engagement even more minimal. Questions?"
[12:01] * Adagio shakes her head though she slips the assualt rifle into a nearby stash crate.
[12:03] <Proverb> "A-Any reports of mutant a-activity up that way Chief?"
[12:05] <~BroadestPeak> "Reports suggest light, but we all know how reports are."
[12:08] <~BroadestPeak> Echelon closes the file. "As for best plan of action, I suggest leaving through the north gate and then flying low level until you reach the Hoofacham Armaments Corporation tower, then fly up to floor twenty seven. There is a ranger OP there. Should give you a nice spot to watch, then move in closer if you  feel you can."
[12:09] * Proverb nods. "Got it Chief."
[12:09] <~BroadestPeak> Echelon nods to Proverb and Adagio. "Good hunting then, report back in two days at most. Dismissed."
[12:11] * Proverb nods back. "Let's go Corporal."
[12:13] * Adagio nods at Echelon, "Got it Chief." she does a quick double check of her gear and nods, "On it Sergeant."
[12:14] <~BroadestPeak> At this point the controls are over to Proverb and her decisions, the best of luck to them as they head for the North Gate of the MSDMZ and beyond, whatever may await them.
[12:15] * BroadestPeak ([email protected]) Quit (Connection closed)
[12:20] * Proverb leads Adagio to the North Gate, looking back over at the pegazony as the gate rumbled open. "So, uhm, h-how's the DCR been so far?"
[12:21] * Adagio sighs and wingshrugs as she walks, "Well, mind if I speak freely Sergeant?"
[12:23] <Proverb> "Y-yeah, go ahead." She says, trotting through the gate.
[12:26] <Adagio> "Well to be honest the days kinda blend together what with the routine," she sighs and keeps walking, "But I have a chance at a much longer life thanks to being in the DCR, so I suppose it's been good."
[12:30] * Proverb takes to the air, flying at about halfway up the buildings. "Heh, yeah... C-Captain Blackout gave me a second chance at life after, a-after I was branded and escaped from the Enclave..."
[12:34] * Adagio follows suit and feels much better after getting airborne, "Goddesses it's good to spread the wings again." she chuckles lightly, "Hmm, seems like we both owe a debt, or three in my case, to Blackout."
[12:35] * Silence ([email protected]) Quit (Quit: If I was born from sin, does that mean I am damned? Is there no way for an abomination of science to be a redeemed soul? Am I cursed to suffer the sins of those who made me?)
[12:39] * Proverb nods, giggling. "Yeah, h-h-he helps a, a lot of p-ponies, doesn't he?"
[12:43] * Adagio nods as she flies along, "That he does, sometimes I wonder if anyone can help him?"
[12:43] <Proverb> "He, he has Rough Waters..."
[12:48] <Adagio> "I still worry about him, kinda natural to feel protective of someone who saved your life right?" she does a quick spin midair and chuckles, "Kinda like when I volunteered for the mission to bring you back. I remember you were there for the recovery."
[12:50] * Proverb nods. "Y-Yeah... place was... sc-c-cary..." She shakes her head, banking upward, following the side of a tall building.
[12:52] * Adagio sighs, "That was partly my fault..." she follows Proverb up and wonders how much she can tell her.
[12:53] * Proverb looks down at Adagio. "But... y-you were all, like, f-frozen..."
[12:57] * Adagio thinks for a bit, "Well... the place was a bio-research lab, and I may or may not have turned on a couple extra circuit breakers when activating the stasis pod to make it less likely anyone would come looking to closely." she sighs, "Back then the Enclave wanted me /bad/. I'd managed to break cloud cover twice, and killed two of the 'Wonderbolts' that were sent after me and was in
[12:57] * Adagio general, probably one of the Enclave's most wanted."
[01:00] * Proverb chuckles. "Least you didn't go after the entire High Council like I did."
[01:03] <Adagio> "Had I known there was one I might have." she laughs, "Though with stripes I wouldn't have made it very far."
[01:08] <Proverb> "Yeah, heh. Only reason I even got the chance to, is cause me and my squad were their personal security detail."
[01:12] * Adagio can't help but smile, thankfully the helm kept it hidden, "That took some serious stones to do."
[01:14] <Proverb> "Indeed..." She pulls to a hover, frowning. "The Chief said Floor 27, right?"
[01:18] * Adagio nods and slips into the tower, she'd done the resupply here a few times before, "Yep and it's a pretty comfy set up in here," she chuckles, "Though I usually watch from here solo."
[01:18] * Proverb nods, following her in. "Something seems... off."
[01:23] * Adagio holds up a wing and switches to non-verbal, the locking bolt on her helm clamps against the bite plate of a combat knife and she draws it silently, she nods to Proverb and stalks forward.
[01:27] * Proverb nods, drawing her own combat knife out of the sheath on her shoulder. She stalks after Adagio.
[01:31] * Adagio takes care to move silently, she keeps her head moving to scan her surroundings.
[01:33] <Proverb> Both Adagio and Proverb would be able to hear a quiet growling soud, along with the sound of claws ripping at flesh and chewing...
[01:35] * Adagio pauses and looks at Proverb motioning that she'll move forward.
[01:37] * Proverb nods, motioning her forward.
[01:39] * Adagio moves towards the sound taking care to remain undetected. Stealthily she slips closer until she can see...
[01:42] <Proverb> There's a dead demon lying among the rubble of part of the building's front, being torn into by a trio of Watchers.
[01:48] * Adagio manages to restrain a gasp and slips back as silently as possible, to report back to Proverb.
[01:49] * Proverb looks up as Adagio returns. "What's up there?" She asks quietly.
[01:51] * Adagio speaks quietly she's still getting used to the names but she knows the two varieties she just saw quite well, "One dead demon, three watchers tearing it apart, probably eating it."
[02:02] * Proverb nods, reaching around and unslinging her VKS, checking the load. "How many can you take?"
[02:06] * Adagio grips the revolver in her wing, "With the right timing I can take two, but the third will be yours." she loads the combat knife with a heavy dose of fast acting neurotoxin. "Sneak close and rush em?"
[02:10] * Proverb nods, slowly sliding the bolt back and forward quietly.
[02:13] * Adagio eases the hammer back and the faintest click is muffled by her wings, she begins sneaking forward again until they can see the Watchers once more.
[07:23] * Proverb creeps forward with Adagio, raising her VKS and lining up the nearest Watcher, aiming for the back of its head.
[07:25] * Adagio continues sneaking forward sticking to what shadows there were trying to get close enough to rush the other two.
[07:28] <Proverb> One of the Watchers suddenly sits up on its hind legs, sniffing.
[07:32] * Adagio curses her luck and swiftly flaps hard rushing the Watcher that had sat up, twisting to try and slam the knife home in another Watcher as she stuffed the revolver in the maw of the attentive Watcher and pulled the trigger.
[07:38] <Proverb> Both watchers meet a rather untimely and gruesome end, the one having it's brains removed from it's head entirely, while the other writhed when the knife struck it, tumbling out the window.
[07:40] * Proverb fires in the same instant, the third Watcher going down missing the left half of its face.
[07:46] * Adagio follows her knife and the Watcher it was sunk into, out the window. Quickly she gathers her wits and does her best to return to the window carrying the Watcher but can't seem to gain any altitude so she settles for slipping into one of the broken windows three floors down. She lands roughly and tugs at the knife, she'd struck badly and it was effectively wedged in one of the beasts
[07:46] * Adagio cervical vertebrae.
[07:49] * Proverb eeps, and dives after Adagio. "C-Corporal!"
[07:51] * Adagio grunts and twists her head and with a sickening crunch retrieves her blade, "Goddesses dammit! I'm alright Sergeant!" she calls out the window, "I'll be right up."
[08:13] <Proverb>  The floor Adagio has landed on seemed unnaturally even with evening approaching.
[08:13] * Proverb appears hovering in the window. "Flying with a Watcher, that's a new one." She giggles.
[08:15] <Proverb>  dark*

[08:17] * Adagio chuckles and turns her back to the window, slowly easing her way back to it, "He was a tenacious bastard." she steps quietly one hoof at a time away from the cloying darkness of the floor. "I think we should head back up Sergeant, there's something... /wrong/ here."

[08:22] * Proverb frowns, staring into the darkness. "Mmm..." She slings her VKS, trading it out for her SVD and raking the bolt. "Just a quick peek..."
[08:24] * Adagio nods, falling in with Proverb and doing her best to keep her breathing even, "Your call Sergeant."
[08:27] * Proverb nods, clicking the flashlight that was attatched to the end of her SVD on. "Then we investigate."
[08:32] * Adagio taps her helm with a hoof and the night vision in her helm kicked on, "Sergeant, I'll take lead," she ejects the spent phial from her knife and loads another phial of neurotoxin into the weapon, before stepping forward into the darkness letting the night vision adjust to the light Proverb's flashlight was casting deeper into the floor.
[08:35] * Proverb also had night vision! She clicks a knob on the scope of her SVD, activating said night vision. "Lead on Corporal."
[08:37] * Adagio begins to trot quickly into the darkness, her hooves make no sound as she presses on into the unknown.
[08:40] <Proverb>  The combination of night vision and the flashlight allows roughly 5 feet of visibility, and as they advanced the air seemed to grow heavier. Their surroundings were still that of an old office building though.
[08:45] * Adagio keeps a careful eye one everything that her night vision allows her to see, she smiles despite the strange sensation of pressure, she could deal with this, there wasn't anything to fear in the darkness.
[08:46] <Adagio> *on
[08:47] * Blackout ([email protected]) Quit (Ping timeout: 121 seconds)
[08:49] <Proverb>  Something moved on the very edge of Adagio and Proverb's NV covered, scuttling close to the ground.

[08:51] * Proverb snaps her SVD around, light shining over the area. Nothing. "Uhm..."
[08:53] <Adagio> "Saw it too Sergeant," she stops speaking and takes a moment to listen carefully, the sound it made was strange, unlike anything she'd ever heard before, as she's listening she eases towards the last spot she'd seen the thing.

[09:07] <~BroadestPeak> The walls around them seem to watch them... and a cold whisper can be heard, in fact many whispers can be heard, incoherent but very distinct in their unison.
[09:08] * Proverb flattens her ears, backing up against Adagio.
[09:10] * Adagio stands back to back with Proverb, "Sarge, I think it's fair to say, I told you so." she chuckles nervously trying and failing to break the tension.
[09:12] <~BroadestPeak> Adagio can feel the cold wind now, its source impossible. However Proverb... she can hear coherent whispering now, coercing her to move forward, begging her almost, the voice very unequine, but sweet sounding "Proverb... come to us... what a lovely place to reeeeeessssst..." The whispers are still there underneath it all. Adagio cannot hear the voice.
[09:14] * Proverb is drawn to the voice. "There's... s-something over here..." She starts to move forward slowly.

[09:20] * Adagio feels the cold wind and finds it, while usually reassuring, dread inducing. "Sarge I don't think we should do this," she follows Proverb regardless, "There's something really /wrong/ here."
[09:29] <~BroadestPeak> The voice seems to be calling from a room to their left, but the door is bolted shut, as if begging for them not to, a sharp mind might understand this sort of thing can't be real, but where does reality begin and vision end? The whispers and wind continue as ordained, the feeling of being watched never ceasing, perhaps sending a chill down the spine or the crawl of the skin.
[09:33] * Proverb blinks, Adagio's words distracting her just enough to stop moving. This... couldn't be real, could it? "I... think we're in an... anomaly..." She shuddered. The voices... No! Don't think about it!
[09:36] * Adagio shakes, the cold wind seems to slip through her armor as if it weren't there, "That's bad... right?" she raises a wing and tries to pull Proverb closer to her, and begins backing away.
[09:37] <~BroadestPeak> Adagio can probably hear whispers behind her, except now the voices are familiar. It seems that she cannot move back... something is blocking the path.
[09:42] * Adagio starts to breathe faster her heart rate climbing, finally losing that little bit of strength against the crushing darkness, she doesn't dare turn around.
[09:43] * Proverb swallows, and tries to move backwards as well. "Y-Yeah... we need to get out... now."
[09:43] <~BroadestPeak> Well whatever is behind Adagio isn't going anywhere, Proverb can't either, something is blocking her path as well, familiar as well... it appears the only way out... is forward.
[09:46] * Proverb bites her lip. "Forward... forward we go..."
[09:48] * Adagio closes her eyes and follows while holding onto Proverb, she's trying to fight against the fear that grips her heart like a vice, "I'm right with ya Sergeant." her voice sounds strained, she tries to take deep breaths, and gradually get the fear under control once more.
[09:50] * Proverb nods, lifting her SVD and moving forward, towards the door.
[09:51] <~BroadestPeak> Whatever was behind them doesn't follow, but it doesn't go away either. Proverb has three choices, the door to the right, padlocked as before, but breakable. The hallway into the crushing dark, or the door to the left, the door ajar.
[09:52] <Proverb> "Which way Corporal?"
[09:53] <~BroadestPeak> It is also to note that the door to the left has an 'Exit' sign above it.
[09:59] * Adagio looks around and shuts the door on the fear for a few seconds, "This is a first for me Sergeant," she looks at the door to the left and shakes her head, "But I don't think I could take twenty three more floors of this, but there's no way you're going to convince me to go through that door." she sighs and shakes a bit terrified by her answer, "Further in Sarge."
[10:01] * Proverb nods. "Anomalies are harmless sometimes, and just fuck with you, but sometimes..." She trails off, moving into the darkness beyond.
[10:04] <~BroadestPeak> With the decision made, the duo move further into the building, soon coming to what looks like a larger open office area, much of it shrouded in darkness.
[10:05] * Proverb shines her light around it, looking through her NV scope.
[10:06] * Adagio nods and finally regains some semblence of compsure and lets go of Proverb's barding, she is still breathing faster than normal, but seems to be holding back her fear.
[10:07] <Proverb> "Keep calm Corporal... We'll be fine."
[10:08] <~BroadestPeak> The light reveals it to be a common office, besides a few scattered bodies, mostly bones, dust, and decay. But the whispers have changed, so has the atmosphere of the place. Office chatter can be heard, telephones as well, typing, all the makings.
[10:08] * Adagio nods again, "Still getting or the Evals Sergeant." she gradually slows her breathing.
[10:10] <Adagio> *over
[10:10] * Proverb moves through the room, nodding. "Yep... I ran into an anomaly on my eval, as well as ghosts and Willpower, and a snork."
[10:11] <~BroadestPeak> Anywhere that Proverb's light passes, shadows, animated shadows, some stand by long drained water coolers, others sitting in their cubicles, bones still in place. But a featured notion about this place was the bulletholes as well.
[10:15] * Proverb keeps moving, carefully navigating through the room, avoiting the shadows. "I think you chose the right way too Corporal..."
[10:15] <Proverb> avoiding*]
[10:16] <~BroadestPeak> The building seems to shake beneath their hooves, an air raid alarm sounding from the abyss of darkness around them, the shadowponies pause in their activites and seem to cry out in fear and point at the darkened windows. Others shielding their faces in horror at somethign unknown.
[10:17] * Adagio notices the shadows as Proverb's light passes over the room and is surprisingly put at ease, there was death here, lots of violent death, but they weren't hostile as of now. "Perhaps Sarge, the people here died badly." she eases along with Proverb.
[10:18] <Proverb> "Keep moving..."
[10:19] * Adagio does so though she feels it, that one moment when they all died, "Roger that Sarge."
[10:20] <~BroadestPeak> Around them the shadowponies start to collapse. Crying out pitifully, others cursing, some trying to crawl to an exit, but there was no escape. Soon enough... everypony was dead from the unknown strike, the air horn still crying out mornfully in the unknown.
[10:22] * Adagio carefully avoids any shadows as she follows Proverb closely.
[10:23] * Proverb slips past a few, heading towards the exit the shadows were unsuccessfuly trying to reach.
[10:23] <~BroadestPeak> Proverb and Adagio reach the opposite end of the complex, an exit present here as well, but not nearly as sinister as the first crossing.
[10:23] * Proverb kicks the door open, rifle at the ready.
[10:24] * Adagio slips inside and peeks up and down the staircase.
[10:25] <~BroadestPeak> The area beyond is... well light, they emerge into a stairwell, the windows tinted in some places, shattered in others, a few skeletons little the area, but they can see the mid day might shining in from the outside, warming them, and perhaps their spirits at having escaped the anomaly.
[10:27] * Adagio waves Proverb in and sighs a breath of relief, "Mmm. Goddesses I'm glad that's over."
[10:27] * Proverb steps into the stairwell, wiping her forehead. "Y-Yeah..."
[10:29] * Adagio punches Proverb very lightly in the shoulder, "Next time, we trot away, okay Sarge?" she looks at her, "Might want to radio in though," she looks out the window, "We were in there a lot longer than it felt."
[10:30] * Proverb nods. "Need to report it."
[10:31] * Adagio nods and begins searching for a window broken enough to slip out of so they can return to the 27th floor.
[10:35] <~BroadestPeak> Adagio could punch a window out if she thought about it long enough. ( :P )
[10:35] * Proverb pulls the radio off her tac vest, keying the call button. "This is Wishbone to Command."
[10:37] <~BroadestPeak> Static returns for a moment before a voice. "Command acknowledges... athenticate signal Wishbone."
[10:37] * Adagio punches out a window and widens the hole enough to allow them to fly out.
[10:45] <Proverb> "Authenticator Whiskey India Sierra Hotel."
[10:48] <~BroadestPeak> "Command acknowledges all, authenticator accepted, what is the situation?"
[10:50] <Proverb> "We found an anomaly on the 24th floor of the Hoofacham building."
[10:51] <~BroadestPeak> "Command copies all, not surprising, Hoofacham is a hotspot once in a while. Thanks for the heads up."
[10:51] <Proverb> "No problem. Wishbone out."
[10:54] <~BroadestPeak> "Roger, good luck Wishbone." Command cuts out.
[10:56] * Adagio turns to Proverb and nods, "Ready Sarge?"
[10:57] * Proverb nods. "After you Corporal." She gestures to the window.
[10:57] * Adagio tucks her wings in and bounds out the window flaring her wings and flapping to maintain a hover while she waits for Proverb.
[11:00] * Proverb dives out after her, easily slipping through. "Alright, no more flying Watchers."
[11:02] * Adagio chuckles, "Yeah but seriously some guys just hang on even after you tell em it's over..." she flaps a bit harder and heads for the Ranger OP.
[11:05] * Proverb follows her back up.
[11:07] <Proverb>  The Ranger OP is exactly how they left it, one dead demon/Spectre and a pair of dead Watchers with bits of brain and skull spattered across the walls.
