Articles:
Food is stuck in the gap of chair and table. (WRONG, because singular nouns need articles)
...the gap of the chair and table. (OKAY = we understand this is the chair and table you used)
...the gap between a chair and table. (OKAY - it’s one of the other chairs at the restaurant)

“Food” is noncount, and in this sentence it means “some food”, but “some” isn’t necessary.
