Something, Something, Something, Rainbow Dash

>You are Anonymous, Human from Earth
>This is a very important point to make.
>A little over three weeks ago you fell through a burning white temporal rift and landed in a magical world with talking ponies called Equestria.
>Well, more accurately you landed ON a magical talking pony.
>She broke your fall.
>You broke her.
>You feel terrible about it.
>But, after sending one of the six guardians of the realm into the hospital and a rather awkward introduction to the ruler, you were given free reign to explore the quaint town of Ponyville.
>The other guardians were a little cold at first, but they've warmed up to you with time.
>It helps that you visit their friend every day.
>Speaking of...
>You stand in front of the double doors of the hospital and sigh.
>Pushing your way inside, you wave and offer a smile to Nurse Redheart.
"Morning!"
>The white mare's eyes brighten a little as she trots out from behind the desk.
>"Oh, good morning Anonymous. Here to see my patient?"
>You nod and restrain your smile as the pretty filly giggles and cocks her head back down the hall.
>While you're certain you could find your way in your sleep, you appreciate Redheart's company.
>It's always difficult to come see the mare you put in here...
>The Nurse pauses in front of the door and shoots you a smile.
>"Don't look so tense, I'm sure things will be different today."
"I hope so..."
>You flash her a small smile before the white mare knocks on the door.
>"Rainbow? You've got a visitor."
>As the door creaks open, you see the cyan pegasus pop up out of her bed, grinning from ear to ear.
>"O-oh? Who is it?"
>After a momentary pause, you smile and step into the room.
"Uh, hi Rainbow Dash..."
>Seconds tick by as the two of you stare at one another.
>At last, the blue pegasus makes a face and cocks an eyebrow.
>"Who are you?"
>You sigh and hang your head.
>Nurse Redheart steps up behind you and rests a hoof against the back of your leg.
>"It's all right Anonymous..."
"Yeah, I know."
>You give the white mare a forced smile.
"I'll just have to try harder."
>Rainbow Dash looks between the two of you, clearly confused.
>As usual.
>You take a deep breath and walk over to the bed, dragging a too small chair behind you.
>Plopping yourself down next to her, you smile and take a moment to look her over.
>On the whole she seems fine, the swelling in her wing has gone down quite a bit, and they've even removed a good amount of the wrapping around it.
>She's still a week or so out from being flight ready, according to the doctors, but she seems happy and healthy.
>Clearing your throat, you introduce yourself.
"Hi Rainbow, my name is Anonymous. Do you remember me?"
>The feathery filly purses her lips and then shakes her head.
>"Nope."
>Ouch.
>You resist the urge to wince and try again.
"Nothing at all?"
>Dash snorts and smirks at you.
>"No offense guy, but if I had ever met something as weird looking as you, I think I'd remember."
>With a sigh, you nod.
"Fair enough. Do you know why you're in the hospital?"
>Rainbow's muzzle contorts slightly, the mare cutely staring off into space as she thinks
>"Well, I remember flying. And then I saw something falling from the sky. When I went to go catch it..."
>Dash stops abruptly, turning to glance at her wounded wing.
>She flexes it experimentally and cringes.
>"I don't remember what happened after that, but I'm guessing it didn't end well for me."
>After a momentary pause, she grins
>"Still, I'm so awesome that even a hospital stay won't faze me!"
>You smile and nod, not having the heart to tell her that she's already spent the better part of a month in the hospital.
>It's the same way every day.
>You come in.
>She has no idea who you are.
>She doesn't remember you.
>She doesn't know this is all your fault.
>Whenever you walk through that door, she greets you with a confused, but happy smile.
>And so, you go through this every day, in the hopes that one day when come inside, she'll hate you.
>But today is not that day.
>You sigh and begin to make small talk with the mare.
>The two of you go over the same topics as always: Daring Do, Wonderbolts, Cloudsdale, things she likes to do when she's not in the hospital...
>It breaks your heart, but you feel like you have a responsibility to be here with her.
>After a few hours of jabbering away, you say your goodbyes, promising you'll visit tomorrow before heading out into the hall.
>Leaning back against the wall, you bury your face in your hands and try to suppress the shudders that roll through your body.
"What have I done?"
>"Anonymous?"
>You're snapped out of your pity party by the familiar inquisitive tone of Twilight Sparkle.
>The purple princess pony tilts her head to the side and smiles, her friends in step behind her.
"O-oh, hey Twilight... girls."
>The other four give their hellos before Applejack steps up to Twilight.
>"I reckon we'll go ahead and see Rainbow. This buckaroo looks like he could use a little time to chat with you."
>The two exchange short nods and Applejack turns back to her friends.
>"C'mon ya'll."
>The four mares trot by, or bounce in Pinkie's case, rounding the corner into the room.
>Twilight gives you an apologetic smile.
>"Sorry, but we don't have a lot of time to visit Rainbow Dash today, and the girls want to spend as much time as possible with her."
>You give a mute nod, still staring at the ground.
>Twilight gulps, shifting her weight from her left side to her right, before trying to speak with you again.
>"You, you know we really appreciate you being so willing to share you time with Rainbow Dash."
"Yeah, I just wish she felt the same way."
>Twilight giggles a little and shakes her head.
>"But she does, Anon. She always talks about you when we come to visit her."
>Gritting your teeth, you put your hands on either side of your skull and squeeze, hoping beyond hope that you might be able to pop your head like an pumped-up posterior pustule.
"But she doesn't know who I am, Twilight! Every day I have to go through the motions of reintroducing myself! How do you five even keep up this farce? She doesn't remember anything!"
>As you try to hold back the swelling pain in your chest, you hear Twilight buzz her lips.
>"Oh, that."
>What?
>You look up just in time to see the tail end of a hoof-wave on the Princess' part.
>"No big deal."
>...What?
"What? How is that not a big deal?"
>Twilight giggles.
"Because Rainbow Dash never remembers anything when she's not in the air."
>There's an explosion of confetti from Dash's room.
>Turning, you see Pinkie sticking her head out into the hall.
>"Yeah Nonny, Dashie's a real [spoiler]air head[/spoiler]."
>You blink and the party pony is gone.
>Looking back at Twilight, you stare at her with your jaw slightly slack.
>"You see, Rainbow is hyper aware of things that go on around her when she flies. It helps her think. When she's in the hospital, her thoughts tend to get all jumbled up."
>After several seconds, you find your voice.
"So, because we never met when she was flying..."
>Twilight nods and smiles.
>"She has no idea who you are. And because she has no idea who you are, she processes it as unnecessary information and tosses it out. It's probably still there, but so blurry that she disregards it as a dream."
>Three weeks of visitations, and this is the first you've heard of that.
>Scratch that, it's the first time you've ever heard of a learning disability this retarded.
>Getting to your feet, you dust yourself off and look down at Twilight.
"So, she won't remember anything about me?"
>The Princess shakes her head.
"And she won't know who I am until she meets me outside of the hospital?"
>Another shake.
"...Okay, I gotta go Twilight, you have fun."
>Giving the alicorn a short wave, you hurry out of the building, leaving a thoroughly confused princess in your wake.
>You make several stops that night before going home.
>The next day, you're once again led to Rainbow's room.
>Once again, she doesn't remember you.
>But today, you've got a smile on your face.
>You step forward to introduce yourself.
"Rainbow Dash? My name is Anonymous."
>The bed-ridden pegasus cocks an eyebrow as you reach into your pocket and pull out a thin rectangular object.
>With a grin, you twist the bottom and watch her eyes widen in fear as a sliver of pink lipstick appears.
"And I'm here to fulfill your request for a makeover."
>This next week is going to be an abuse of power kind of week.
